Gauntlet 3: Episode 7 - Don't Make Me a Target
I just watched tonight's episode preview and all I have to say is: If only we would be so lucky! Goofin' Around | Video | Gauntlet III | Ep. 7 | Sneak Peak Minute | MTV
I'm watching now and I'm sure will have PLENty of comments soon... =)
I thought it was an alright episode, although the full weight of the veteran domination is starting to wear a bit on me. I can't remember a challenge ever being this lopsided, let alone the winning squad being so dominated by total losers. The entire faux sadness about the Coral situation was almost too much for me to take. The guys have been wanting to get rid of the girls from the start and I doubt any of them lost sleep over Casey going home. I wonder if Coral still received her appearance fee? I would assume that they would have to pay her anyways if she was a SAG member based on the amount of days "on set." Then again, I remember V1man saying something about Beth wanting to be eliminated so that she could go home and still get paid. Guess I am looking for clarification. Frank's summarization of the team was spot on! I think he had the best lines of the episode talking about his rookie brethren (and the jabs at Kenny were entertaining as well.)
I love how the vets think they are the Challenge version of the NFL's 1972 Dolphins. Little do they know that they will be remembered as the Challenge version of the 2008 Patriots!
I wish that the Real World/Road Rules Challenge was a "mixed art" competition rather then purely based on brute strength. Sure the team events often involve puzzles (although not on a Survivor level) but the actual eliminations always favor the strongest psychically. Who is to say that the absolute strongest players are the ones that the fans really want sticking around?
Ev posted a blog on myspace concerning last night's show and the fact that she was flying out (with the others) to NYC for the reunion show.
Well I'm up right now pulling an all-nighter in preparation for catching a very early flight in a few hours. I received a few death threats tonight and I must say I'm really in shock at how seriously some screwed up fans take this show. I've had to deal with a lot of negativity from some of the diehards but this represents a new frontier. I posted a blog on iamonmtv.com which I'd encourage you all to read, although it's mostly just a restatement of things I already said here. I'm going to be gone until Sunday evening so I won't be around to respond to messages, but I just hope you guys know that whether I have a chance to reply to mail or not your support means the world to me. Really, know that it is always appreciated, and that I do my best to keep in touch with all of you. Two extra notes that I'll toss in here which didn't fit into the iamonmtv blog: 1) Casey really won my admiration tonight. What she did was an act of complete selflessness, and it was by no means a foregone conclusion that she would be voted into the Gauntlet. She's got a heart of gold and I'd be honored to be her teammate on any future challenge. 2) It is absurd to think that Coral achieved some kind of "revenge" against the team through her actions. What she did ***ked over Casey and Casey alone. It was the men who threw that challenge, not the women. If anything she did them a favor, she made it two of us going home instead of one.
What is up with the death threats? I just don't get it. Hopefully she forwarded those emails (or whatever digital medium she received) to the proper authorities for examination.
I wanted to add that I actually felt bad for Coral last night. I usually don't, as she is the type of person that would not want people feeling sorry for her. However, you could tell she was extremely hurt by the fact that her "friends" turned on her. I would be distraught too if the person I taught the game (Evan) sold me down the river and actually don't blame her for jumping ship.

The show is not union, so the SAG appearance rules do not apply. I don't know if she was. What I suspect happened is that BMP did not seek to recover it's costs for her transportation, etc., but also declined to pay her contract appearance fee. If you have read Beth's latest blog, she says she lost the gauntlet to Coral so she was able to satisfy her contract obligation before leaving. I'm glad the executive producer was "reassigned" (fired) after the challenge. He completely lost control of the show. Things were so bad behind the scenes/off camera that they had to post a guard at night outside of Coral, Katie and Beth's door. MTV needs a thorough house cleaning of this show, beginning with casting and they need to bring back Mark Kunitz who left BMP to create and produce Fear Factor.
Yeah Evan turned on Coral faster than his hairline is receding, and as we all know, that is pretty damn fast.
You have to love Beth's "Hair Club for Men" comment about Evan in her latest blog.

I don't blame Coral at all. This challenge is whack. It's really lame and isn't even fun competition. Honestly though, if I was Coral...I wouldve obnoxiously thrown the gauntlet so i could get the pay check. (but im sure that wouldve made her look like an *** on TV). I feel bad for Casey, but you're right...the guys "fake sadness" was lame. They really need to cast these challenges better. Do they even TRY asking the REAL "Vets" if they'd like to participate? Throw these Fresh Meat kids to the sharks, and get some real people in there! Kalle? Julie (NY)? Judd and Pam? Sarah (Miami)? ANYONE from Boston or Seattle? Hey....it could happen...

The reason I watch the challenges is to see my favorites from past seasons of The Real World and Road Rules, not to see a bunch of people from a season that never was! If they are going to take this route, why not just dump the "Real World/Road Rules" moniker and just cast entirely random people for what is becoming an entirely random show? Just like Austin dominates the Rookie team this season, the Fresh Meat kids dominate the Vets and that just means that everyone else is going to get thrown off. Unfortunately, that "everyone else" is the reason most of us watch in the first place.
I loved the challenges that Emily was in. I would ALWAYS love it when Timmy came on. CHRISTIAN! (ok..so maybe i'm just a HUGE RR:2 fan!) But you know what I mean. Antoine and Belou! I love the older cast members. Casting needs to try harder to get some of them involved. OR...at least get some newer people that viewers have either temporarily forgotten about...or some that we wouldnt expect. I loved seeing Kelly and Danny from New Orleans on Battle of the Seasons! I never thought Kelly wouldve been the challenge-type, yanno?
I loved the original Gauntlet (or it might have been G2) with Sarah- who kept getting repeatedly throw in the gauntlet, and always coming out as a winner. It was stellar television.

Oh No know I feel old!!!! Please bring back some of the people that mattered!!! If I wanted to watch children run around backstabbing, I'd watch Hannah Montana!!!

And I don't remember if it was Even or who that made the comment about "your out of the loop now, get over it". I can't help but think these Fresh Meat kids wouldn't know how to play the game if it weren't for watching Coral on past seasons/challenges. I don't blame her at all for what she did, she was betrayed.
I truly respect Coral for leaving, she chose self respect over money. It was really annoying to watch all the girls just hand over the team to the guys like that. Also friendship seems to mean nothing to these kids, look at Robin.
It's time to ditch the Fresh Meat kids period point blank. Does MTV not understand that the reason a lot of people don't tune in is due to them. We're looking for familiar faces. I know a lot of people watched purely because Coral was on this time. So, if the Fresh Meat fools are going to ram her out every Challenge they have to go. I think they wanted her to go because most of these kids especially Kenny and Ev were left out of the "group" on earlier challenges. That's when the Vets were really the Vets. And, Coral and the Miz were the ringleaders of that group. Evelyn: I will never ever automatically associate butch women with feminism again. Love how she can go off on Coral about team spirit and team this. Why should Coral care about a team that wanted to get rid of her? That makes no sense. Yes, Evelyn how dare Coral not help you and the other idiots win a potential share of her prize money. And, I really think your mad that you didn't have an excuse to do Ball Brawl with Coral. I don't think you wanted to beat her. I think you just wanted an excuse to cop a feel of Coral. I don't understand how any of the girl Vets will be able to stand behind the comments they made about Coral. They can't honestly back the guys after seeing some of these episodes now.
You have to love Beth's "Hair Club for Men" comment about Evan in her latest blog.
Oh I know, it was classic!
Oh I know, it was classic!
Maybe V1man can pull some strings and encourage Beth to come visit to answer a few questions and share her like sense of humor. :D

It wasn't about the game. I think Ev, Kenny, and Danny were mad at Coral for their experiences on earlier challenges. If memory serves correct all three were outcasts and "out of the loop" on earlier challenges.
Maybe V1man can pull some strings and encourage Beth to come visit to answer a few questions and share her like sense of humor. :D
Not sure how this would actually work, but her answer is yes. Perhaps, if people want to post questions for her, she can respond to them collectively as if it were an interview. Beth's condo is currently under rennovation, so reliable internet access for her to do something real time is problematic.

Although you can never tell about real intent from a message, they were not of the "I hope you die" kind. The people who wrote them will be in serious legal trouble, particularly if they live in California where communicating a death threat via the internet is a felony. Evelyn is not one of our clients at Vision 1, but we have offered her our full assistance in dealing with these people.

I know that death threats traverse into the federal arena (if the sender was from one state and the receiver from another as that would be a threat via intrastate communication.) Although we are still in the wild west days of the internet and these type of things are often not pursued (depending on the severity) as law enforcement just does not have the time (or tools) to follow up each incident. I know that if it was on myspace, it is only a matter of reporting the crime in which case law enforcement can subpoena myspace to release the user and ip information. From there you would subpoena the ISP for the specifics to confirm that the message was sent from a given account. In this case I am willing to bet (knowing nothing about the situation mind you) that this is someone who will be easily caught rather then a person who has taken the time to set up a proxy (or other obfuscatory methods) to spoof their online identify. If you need any help V1man (digital forensics) I'd be more then willing to assist.

Once we have a good variety of topics, you can pass that information along. :D
