I really enjoyed The Event and figure I might as well start a thread being I plan to continue to tune in. It felt very similar stylistically to Flashfoward, while playing homage to Lost with the music and flashbacks. Overall, I was intrigued (and I love this kind of show.)
The Event, is an American conspiracy thriller that follows Sean Walker (Jason Ritter), a man who, while investigating the mysterious disappearance of his girlfriend, begins to discover the biggest cover-up in U.S. history.
YouTube - The Event - Preview If you didn't catch the premiere, it is going to be available a few times before the second episode Monday @ 9PM. Saturday NBC - 8PM USA - 11PM Monday SyFY - 8PM Oxygen - 8PM Bravo - 8PM Chiller - 8PM
I didn't have time to watch it last night but I recorded it. I've heard mixed reviews but I'll definitely check it out for the first few episodes or so and see where it goes.

Ooooh I watched this last night too. I thought it was very good, very intriguing! I look forward to seeing this series through. I have so many questions!! Is the Dad in on it? Did he have his wife killed? Is the little girl dead? WHAT IS UP WITH THE CREEPY HIPPIE COUPLE?? So yeah, I'm pumped for this show so far.

I don't think the Dad was part of it, but now he is because they have the little girl and they told him to crash the plane to save the girls life. Er...what, at least that is what I think right now. I also suspect aliens are involved. Well, it could be earth people from the future or something like that. :D

I didn't want the girlfriend (Kayla?) to be in on it! Innnnteresting theories B. That one lady too that was in the handcuffs at the beginning...I forget her name. She totally knows what's up.
I saw an ad for this show on YouTube and it looked amazing! I really want to see it, but when I saw the ad, the show had already aired :p
I saw the last 40 nminutes, but missed the first 20. Can someone fill me in by PM possibly? Or in spoiler tags? Thoughts: I was very intrugued. I think Kayla is in on it and is manipulating Sean, making him think he's crazy. Why? I don't know. I guess we'll have to tune in and see :D

I definitely think some sort of aliens or futuristic people are involved or maybe a different realm. I don't think that is such a far stretch judging from the plane. I can't remember anyone's name, except Sean's. The show was a bit confusing, going back and forth, from minutes to months, but it was also pretty interesting. It peeked my interest. I'll definitely be tuning in next week!

CRG, the Dad was the plane pilot!
I know he was the pilot, but who told him to crash the plane to save the girl's life?

Oh... I think that part was just B's speculation. :)
I haven't watched because I'm not into these shows, but when I first saw the ads on MSNBC, I thought they were for a political campaign until I saw the NBC logo.
I know he was the pilot, but who told him to crash the plane to save the girl's life?
Ya, that was just part of my speculation based on how Sean was telling the pilot (paraphrased) "I know you want to save her" but "You can't trust them."
The show was a bit confusing, going back and forth, from minutes to months, but it was also pretty interesting.
Yes, I said to myself, "Oh, boy..." when they went from a 13 minute flashback to a 13 week flashback to a 13 month flashback, to the present, to an 8 days ago flashback, etc. That said, I was able to pretty much follow along - although I can see this show losing a lot of views right off the top because of its complexity. I have a feeling if you missed a week, you'd be forever lost.
The first episode was great. I found it to be a cross between Lost with all the sci-fi, not tipping there hand play with the great action from 24. I also was really impressed with Jason Ritter he is much overdue for this opportunity.

Glad to hear it was your speculation, which is probably correct! Truth be told, I didn't really like Lost. I should have given it more of a chance, but after the first 2 episodes I was bored. I heard it was an awesome show, and what I can remember from the first 2 episodes, it was similar to The Event. I also agree if you miss a week you will be lost. I think that might be a draw back. Also, I found the president and government scenes a bit boring... But it was a well done pilot!
So I finally got around to watching this tonight and I really like it. It definitely reminds me of Lost and Flashforward mixed together. More so on the aspects that one episode in and I'm already confused. Also, all that kept going through my head though for the first 10 minutes was "Oh, that's the girl from Disturbia, haven't seen her in anything else." I'm really hoping there aren't aliens involved in any way because that would be a huge letdown. As for now though, I will continue to tune in to see how it goes. And probably because I don't think I can go without knowing what happens.

I REALLY hope it's not aliens...
I REALLY hope it's not aliens...
I second that. I think I may be done with shows like this in the future if it comes down to aliens.
If it's aliens, I will 100% stop watching. I sure hope it isn't.
It might have supernatural elements to it, not necessarily aliens.
True, but I just hope its not to boring
From everything that I have read about the show (being careful to avoid any and all spoilers) we should have answers soon (I'm hoping for time travelers from the near [+100 years] future that accidentally screwed up something in the past while messing with their giant particle accelerating machine [which caused a time leap] and they are stuck in the present, trying to fix things they broke so they don't get warped out of existence like Marty McFly in Back to The Future, heh.) Unlike Lost, they say they're committed to posing a question and then giving an answer right away, so it doesn't seem like they are just making stuff up as they go along. We'll see... p.s. Why all the alien animosity? They are carbon based, intelligent beings too! ;)
Why is the thread title stylized like the show itself? Just saying. Anyway, i missed this show and heard the second ep was on Itunes for a while the other day.
Why is the thread title stylized like the show itself? Just saying.
Because we have the technology to do so (we got it from aliens.)
Well at least you're honest. I thought my interwebs messed up.

Lots of good information tonight and a great episode in my opinion. This is the breakout show of the year as far as I am concerned. Notes:

I think I was wrong about the girlfriend. Not in on it.
The flashbacks are going further and further back. It is like Lost, but totally different at the same time as to how they deal with the story jumping around.
They really pushed the 'aliens' theory, which means there is no way they are aliens.
My guess is still, time travelers, with the theory that they can't share information for fear of changing the future (or something to that effect.)
The reason their DNA is 1% different is because they come from a time so far in the future that natural evolutionary progression has changed their makeup slightly which would explain the DNA disparity (or possibly they have used technology to engineer their longevity.)
It seems like there are many factions. The unaware. The "good" evoHumans. The "bad" evoHumans. The "good" government forces. The "bad" government forces. And finally our hero Sean and whoever he can get on his side. It is hard to tell at this point who is who and with each event which faction is pulling the strings.
I'm definitely hooked and do think they are doing a good job at answering questions as they pose them. All my theories are probably wrong, but I love a show that actually makes me come up with theories! There are not many "challenging" shows these days...
I'm hooked as well! I grew up watching the original Star Trek etc... Thanks for the theories.
