Um...I'm originally from Michigan, and I've always called it rock paper scissors. It's not a Midwest thing.
Um... oh. Well then I don't know what to tell you. Maybe it doesn't reach all the way up to Michigan. But people in Chicago definitely for the most part call it paper scissors rock. There's always a few people who say otherwise of course. It's probably like pop/soda. Almost everyone in Chicago/much of the midwest call it pop, but there are the occasional who call it soda. PS. Not that the editors of these shows have ever been too great at hiding the outcomes, did anyone else think it was GLARINGLY obvious from the first like minute that Brooke was a goner? They did fool me a little though, since I was expecting Nehemiah to go, not Davis. So there's that at least.

I will never understand the soda thing. I love Chicago slang lol.
Mark seems to get along with everybody and I doubt anyone would even want to call him out. I'd be afraid to go against Rachel.
That's probably why neither Mark or Rachel will ever get called out.
It seems that Paula is prone to getting "stabbed" by mostly anyone she is involved with. But I can actually understand the position Evan was in kind of with trying to balance things out. Still if Evan had gone into the Duel and lost....there would have been a tiny part....and by tiny I mean huge...of me that would have been happy. Sadly it didn't happen. As for Brooke...she never seemed to be aggressive as you need to be in the Duel...so I wasn't shocked when she left. No more orgies though. PS. Katie Confessionals! She looked good lol
Why can't everyone have the attitude that Brooke does?
I remember hearing something about Ruthie being a ninja during that rope mission this episode. And it made me think, when was the last time there was an asian person on this show? Even Real World? Was it Jamie from RW San Diego. Maybe I should get up on one of these... haha i'm just kidding
On two occasions tonight, Landon and Ruthie referred to partners. Here we are in week three and the editors still have not given us an explanation of how the partners came about or what their significance is -- if any -- in the challenge. It's not just ****** editing, it's like a story line to nowhere.
I was actually just about to ask. It was edited, IMO, very badly. I think what they meant to express was that most people had "declared a partner"--i.e. someone they would save when they were called on in the voting. Therefore, when you choose someone in the process, you're choosing a dyad rather than a single individual. However, they really didn't put it that plainly, and the fact that there are also partner missions made it more confusing. And, finally, why did these people pick one another as partners? I feel like Landon and Brittini merits some explanation, and I wish I had one. I assume MJ and Aneesa is a partnership of convenience, since they're both in the larger alliance. But I'm guessing Brit is only in it because Landon pulled her in, so I'd love to know why he did.
Why can't everyone have the attitude that Brooke does?
Because most people there have a chance at winning the money. If we're being honest, Brooke really never did, and I'm sure she knew it. She has the dubious luxury of being there just for fun. If someone like Rachel was trying to just relax and enjoy when there's 100k to be had, that would be a bit silly of her.
It seems that Paula is prone to getting "stabbed" by mostly anyone she is involved with.
So my read on the situation is this--it seems like, following with the whole partner thing, Evan was happy and willing to make Paula his partner. The problem being that Paula also wants Dunbar as her partner, and two partners--well, in the strictest definition, that doesn't quite work. Part of this game is clearly based on having a partner you can trust to call an agreed upon name, and Paula has made it clear that the only name she wants to call is Dunbar. One interesting point about the larger alliances and the partner dyads is that they have pushed apart people you'd expect to stick together in voting, like Brit and Kim, or Tori and Derek who are friends outside the game, or Tori and Kim who are friends inside the game. Paula clearly isn't willing to be pushed apart from Dunbar, and as a result she's lost her place in the larger alliance.

Let's say the stage was set for them to become close and their roommate situation developed into a very close friendship. Diem was also their roommate and the same thing happened there.
Their friendship seems to come from being the outcasts, at least in my opinion. I really wish they would show more of Tori.

I have to say after last night's challenge, I am so Impressed with Kim, she is a fighter. She is also nothing like she was on the RW, it is very refreshing. Is Kim a member here?

I think Paula deserved to lose her place in the larger alliance, because she was trying to stick to Dunbar.

She would tell you, as she has me, that she is exactly like she was every day on RW Hollywood. That is what editing does when production decides to use you for their own purposes. Fortunately, the production team for the challenges preferS the "interview insight" format which allows us to see more of Kim.
I am a bit confused - if Dunbar was part of the big Vet alliance on the Island, why is he an outcast now? I feel so bad for my bear! It is even more odd that Issaic seems to be part of the alliance and he is a true newbie. Honestly, it seems to me that Evan likes to think he's the leader of this game, but to me its the Philly boys calling the shots...which sucks because I absolutely detest MJ (adore Landon though). I did feel bad for Paula because she has been screwed over way too many times by her "friends" but she should have known that Evan is just as shady as Kenny and Johnny. Side note - did anybody notice how different Davis lucks? The guy has BULKED up since the last time we saw him (I wonder if he's still single - call me!!). Too bad he's gone :( I have stayed away from the spoilers because I think thats why the Island sucked for me - but will someone in the know PLEASE PM me and assure me than Evan does not win this!!
Yeah I'm from Chicago and I grew up calling it Paper, Scissors, Rock but I've heard it the other way too and didn't give much thought to it being a Chicago thing. I don't really understand why Neh. picked Paula knowing Davis would end up the odd man out since I thought they were trying to form some sort of alliance. I was sad to see Davis go home, I didn't see his season but I've liked him well enough on challenges. I actually like Tenderoni though or at least I don't mind him, didn't know what the **** he was talking about in his speech, I guess it was some sort of drunk ramblings that I could only minimally decipher but I picked up the gist of it. Really happy to see Landon and Ruthie win they are definitely two of my favorites, especially Ruthie I love that she's kicking *** and not relying on alliances (at least based on editing) it may prove to be her undoing though. I like Brooke but I was happy to see Brittini win and even though it wasn't necessarily a huge feat I think Landon's comment was referring more to the intensity that she showed versus the fact that she beat Brooke, should've been Paula in that Duel though. @faceless - we were talking about that in another thread, the lack of Asians and particularly Asian males in RW/RR Universe, why don't they ever bring that guy Steve from the Quest back I wonder, I think I remember liking him I don't think he had as much drama as the others on that season though. Yes probably has no interest in coming back but he is one of my all time favorite RR castmembers.

Kenny and Johnny were smart enough to know they might need expendable pawns, and by making him think he was part of the alliance, he did not align with those opposed to Kenny & Co. To this day, Dunbar thinks those guys are his friends. If he only knew how they actually talk about him, he would be surprised. Issac has played the smart social game. He knows he is an expendable game piece and is happy to go along for the ride as long as he can, doing what is required of him. As a rookie, how long he stays determines his paycheck.
They call it "playing the game." Perhaps money eases the guilty conscience...
Money seems to ease alot of things and I'm sure Kenny/Johnny aren't losing sleep over it.

I am glad she get's to show who she really is:)
That is so not right - these people are absolutely despicable.
I don't know for 100,000 dollars, I might pretend to be friends with people too. That is just the name of the game. Dunbar has not been there long enough to be in the "inner circle." Paula is the one placing and keeping him there.

I think that is why Evan got a little freaked out, beause he really could have lost had Davis thought about the challenge before jumping in to putting the bottom pieces on first.

Wow, the highlight of the ep for me was watching Evan sweat. I wish wish wish Davis had taken him out!! I'm so **** sick of seeing his face on these challenges and all his stupid interviews where he throws out comments and he just seems so....affected? rehearsed? Like, you can tell that he thinks he's the shit. Thank you Davis for simply telling him "Uh, yeah I picked you cause I wanted to." And Nehemiah, well I guess enough people have already commented on how STUPID his decision was, so I won't reiterate....but yeah.
I thought it was lovely to not only see Evan for the majority of the episode, but to also see him during the commercials! I don't hate Evan, but enough is enough. I think he was being sarcastic when he said he said that him and Davis had a "connection". Nehemiah probably picked Paula because she was crying. Maybe I'm missing something here, but I don't understand why it was fine for Paula to change her vote but then Evan couldn't change his.
I had to forgo staying awake to watch the end of this episode because I was on Evan overload. It makes me sad to hear Davis lost. Evan really sounds like a "stupid frat boy" sometimes (especially in the commercials). Someone at MTV must think only 15 year olds watch these shows, because that's the only age group that would idolize that type of personality. I think they've forgotten about the people who grew up watching the Real World and Road Rules when they still had meaningful plot lines. They attempted to bring it back with Brooklyn, but they still missed the boat in terms of what people want to see vs. what they think people want to see. I was also really confused about the "partners" thing. If they're going to include it so much in their editing, they need to give a little footnote or something!
WHY Nehemiah WHY WHY WHY DID YOU PICK PAULA INSTEAD OF BROOKE? DO YOU KNOW HOW GLORIOUS IT WOULD'VE BEEN IF PAULA AND DUNBAR WENT INTO THE DUEL AND (POSSIBLY) LOST? YOU RUINED THAT FOR ME MAN! Also I hate the fact that they are focusing on Paula and Evan so much. What exactly was Paula Crying about? Didn't she just screw over Ryan last episode? And now she's ****** that Evan screwed her? She has no room to be upset, She made her bed and now she's gotta lie in it. And as for Evan...I wish Davis would've beaten him. I really do. Just so we can focus on the people that I actually care about this challenge. Also doesn't Brittni's Hair look like a wig? That is all.
Here's my take on why Nehemiah picked Paula over Brooke... I think he saw Paula crying and felt that she really wants to be there to win, as opposed to Brooke, who was probably there just to have fun.(which I have no problem with). I guess he wasn't thinking who Paula would , which was the really stupid move. Also I have no problem with Evan picking Kim over Paula. Paula made it clear that Dunbar was more important to her than Evan, so why should Evan put himself in a situation that no one would pick him because of her. I wouldn't. If were him I would have done the same exact thing. She even said in last episode that she put a big target on her back... so what its always on Evan to save her...nah ah! I am not the biggest Evan fan ,in fact what he did t o Coral on the last one was down right nasty, but Paula made her bed.... Also what's with Brad, being sketchy with Evan? He sat there trying to convince Evan that Paula obviously doesn't give a **** about him, but now he is mad at Evan for listening to him WTH?
So I thought this was really funny...CT's status on FB...
All three good girls, I can see that happening. I have to say after last night's challenge, I am so Impressed with Kim, she is a fighter. She is also nothing like she was on the RW, it is very refreshing. Is Kim a member here?
I will say this about Kim. I despised her during her RW season because based on edits; I thought she was pretty ignorant and using words out of text especially with her dealings & absurd assumptions of Brianna. I really believe that some was edit and some was who she was. However, she acknowledged her mistakes & growth at the reunion. Classy. Now, I have the most respect for her of any cast member of the Duel. She basically has nothing as far as strategy, but she has confidence, the attitude, and is competitive. And thus far, she is the only one who seems unafraid of the duel which can be an advantage. As for this episode, the challenge part was one of the coolest I have seen in a while. Ruthie is very agile, and I actually thought Nehemiah would take Landon, but Landon is a beast. Evan picking Kim was merely out of respect aside from isolating himself from Paula imo. He could have went into another direction (Brooke or Jenn) thus leaving Dunbar and Paula or Kim last. Nehemiah's decision was clearly not thought out and was superseded by him wanting to get rid of Evan. Both Brooke and Davis made the right decisions in picking their opponents although the results weren't there. Dunbar was beyond ecstatic when Davis calls out Evan. Brooke was pathetic in her duel. Period. Evan was on overkill this episode, but I am starting to see him not as the mastermind, but the fall guy for being the mastermind. Brad, Mark, and Rachel have kept a very low profile and it's evident that their alliance is much bigger than the 3 males; it looks like an 7 person alliance to me (Rachel, Mark, Aneesa, Landon, Brittani, Brad, Tori, and Evan). Aneesa is in on the strength of Rachel and imo Rachel's personal interest in Aneesa, her past, and her fear of facing her in the Duel otherwise, Aneesa would not be in it. If Nehemiah & Dunbar was smart, I'd try to target her for a vote.
