This is what Brandon had to say about it on twitter:
there technically 2 races at once. Me vs. Kenny & Ty vs. Wes. Me waiting wouldn't have helped. I had to win my race.
we were told it was like two races at once

When TJ was talking about a "tie", he meant if one person from each team rang the bell before the second person from a team made it up the rope, since in order to win both members of one team had to ring the bell before any of the people on the other team. While I think the rules were stupid and should involve teamwork of some kind, whether or not Brandon rang the bell before Wes in the first round made no difference.
I just rewatched the part TJ went over the rules, and I see what you mean. Ugh...what a horrible elimination round. Horrible rules.
If you're going to make an elimination round for this challenge, you should either (1) emphasize teamwork to see who the overall best team is or (2) emphasize individual ability to see the best of what each team has to offer. This elimination awkwardly combined the worst of both worlds.
Once again, I have a feeling production tailored the rules to favor Wes and Kenny, and Kenny historically has sucked at climbing (didn't Nehemiah beat him in Ascenders?)
What if Kenny/Wes both rang it first? Would that have mattered, or either way another round?
It was the winners of each race would have faced each other. Kenny facing Wes would have not made any sense nor would it have been necessary, so it would have been a flat out win.
This elimination concept was dumb. The theme is TEAMS of two. There was no way to work together as a team in this jungle. The first 3 jungles were team efforts. Why all of sudden change it?

To save Wes and Kenny probably.

Yea i know they wouldn't have Wes/Kenny face off if both finished first just wondering if it was mentioned when TJ went over the rules or if they automatically assumed it would be 2 rounds. Good jungle involving the rope climb, bad rules to go with it . Either way Wes was better at rope climbing than the other 3, so they/he won. I guess this jungle isn't much team focused. If any pairings left have to do this jungle in last 2 men jungles, could be real good. I could see any of the remaining guys maybe except for Mike being able to do this well.
After all that talk (by Kenny) Wes showed why he deserves to be there.
He also showed that he is not a man of his word. When the opportunity presented itself to eliminate Adam/CT, their names did not come out of his mouth at all. Which is probably just as well, as this is an elimination they would have lost. In fact, the only one Kenny and Wes could potentially beat anyone in is the flipping the rivals window thing that Laurel and Cara Maria won. And that's only because it would be a toss up. Beyond that, they are the fourth best team in a three horse race.
I enjoyed this episode, but as the last few comments have said, I think the Jungle was stupid. I hate to say that production rigs things, but I did get the sense that they were setting this Jungle up to make it easier for Wes and Kenny to return to the house.
For people who keep saying "rigged," if you want to see an elimination round that was practically rigging, watch when Jodi lost to Veronica on Inferno 2. Somehow Veronica just happened to be lucky enough to get the only thing she'd actually beat Jodi at that season considering her dance experience or what not. Something tells me they gave her that one since she was better tv than Jodi and it was too early to break up the girls on the bad *****.
Kenny's on Brandon's podcast right now talking about this episode.

Or Jodi just choked...honestly, just watching her, you could see she was a complete mess. Veronica actually looked focused and determined. Plus, it's not like Veronica sucks at these things--I remember her winning lifeshields and performing well. It's not like she's Casey.

Exactly, and rigging an elimination for Veronica >>>>>>>>>>> than rigging one for Kenny, and Wes (even though, I like him).
And in the case of Inferno 2, it was a win win if Veronica went home, the Naughty Girls would have been furious with her gone, which would've guaranteed entertainment, while Jodi winning would have changed the house dynamic.
Yeah I definitely think they rig things some times. Laurel said in the episode where they grab the bar, notice TJ's face is not shown when he says you cannot lean out and grab it because he didn't say that at the time. I think for sure they manipulate things sometimes. I really wish Brandon and Ty would have won.

It doesn't mean he didn't say it - the original version of him saying it was edited out. The cast gets a much more thorough explanation of the rules than the viewers get. Also, you can hear Camila saying, "You can't do that!" when Laurel is reaching out, so it wasn't rigged for them to lose.

Not to mention the fact that they weren't the first team to go.
Okay, enough Inferno II time, it's Rivals time.
Sorry Cystic, when it comes to Veronica, I get swept up easily...
On topic, I don't think I've mentioned yet how proud/impressed I was with Jonna and Jasmine voting how they wanted to without caring about the "bandwagon, mob" or whatever they're going by. In that moment even I was like "okay, Wes, calm down". He only got worse after the deliberation.
Also, is anyone else aware why the last place team gets to sit in on the deliberation? Each time I see that, I find myself more and more annoyed.
It wasn't rigged, they don't show it but they explain it in far greater detail how it all works. I have asked that question to a mod before. But it was poorly planned and i don't get the logic of the 2 rounds where they can just have their very best in 1 round and first team to have both finish win. Did they not think both people from any team would be able to do it? I don't get it, it should have just been first two up on a team wins. I thought this was a team challenge.
In the elimination round, I was surprised no one tried to physically knock or kick off their opponent.
Kenny was on Brandon's podcast/Talk show earlier today and he said he went to go for Brandon's foot, but Brandon was going so fast that he missed him.
Whenever there is a challenge season where the competitors don't spin a wheel, pick a random card, or roll a dice, I feel like it's rigged.
Once the show knows which guys or girls are going into the elimination round, they can just pick whatever game they want those people to play just to make sure they can keep the people they want to stick around.
And if I'm wrong on this and someone else has knowledge on how this actually goes down, please feel free to correct me. But the fact that they don't let it come down to a random pick, tells me that there's something shady going down behind the scenes.
OMG, just went back and rewatched the episode. At the beginning when they're at the beach and Evan is lounging back saying "a team that swims naked together wins together" in reference to Jenn & Mandi swimming topless, CHECK OUT THE SIZE OF THE DUDE'S GUT! Holy man hahahahaha
The challenges have officially tanked. I wish we could get an all newbie challenge because I literally feel like I've already watched this challenge. This challenge BLOWS! The Missions suck, the jungles arent much better and I feel like it's painfully obvious who will win for the girls.

Listen to it again. Yes, it was mentioned.

Laurel and Cara Maria were topless. And I don't think Evan is "fat and out of shape" like Ev said. When Evan did have his six pack, he also had a pot belly, he's big boned.
The funniest was when Evan said jasmine looks like a 12 year old, and they shoot to her walking into the water. She looked extremely short and petite, like a 12 year old.
Wes's comments are amusing. Kenny is doing awful this challenge. If they made the 2 losers who didn't reach the top go at it for the final round (Ty and Kenny), I think Ty would have won. He was farther up the rope than Kenny, that is if he didn't run out of breath.
And Laurel DQing on every mission, except this one is sweet revenge. She talks a big game, but I don't think she is super impressive, especially this challenge. Her height gave her a huge advantage for this mission.

I'm not sure I agree with your first point. I think that would have been better, too--it would make the Jungle about the team, and being as strong as your weakest link. And I agree that it looked like Ty was doing a lot better climbing the rope. However, I don't know that Ty would have been able to do it again. All I have to go on is his performance from the Gulag in CutThroat, where he did well for two minutes and then ran out of gas. However, given Kenny's complete loss of mojo, he may have just gotten to the water and pooped out like he did the first time.
As far as Laurel goes...I agree, but I think she gets better, because it seems like CM only has good things and is really happy with Laurel as her partner.

True. Ty did run out of Gas after 1 round in the Gulag. Since this is a team game, I think both of the players should have made it to the top, and whichever team had both players at the top first, should have won.
And Laurel definitely has the potential to be a beast, but she is lagging this challenge. I guess we will see if she gets better.
