Oh, personally I find this to be tired already. She messed up, big deal.
I don't know, maybe I'm getting tired of over-dramatic situations completely overplayed on reality tv :laugh4:. Time to find a new form of tv entertainment.
It just happened a half hour ago (In TV time), you are acting like this has been going on forever. It just happened and people are discussing it,.
Everyone saying Leroy wouldn't have been ******** tweeted: Yeah I would have been pissed too...
But he said Emily isn't racist.
IIRC Mike did blackface on their season...he was pretending to be Leroy and Leroy was in on it but he still did it. Isn't the phrase "intent is irrelevant"?

It feels like forever lol.
Nah, I just expected something completely terrible when the commercial came on saying, "Something so shocking, we can't show you on TV!" or something along those lines. It was an ignorant mistake and people are getting so offended from her dumb actions... it's kind of annoying to me.

That's definitely a great promotional move on MTV/BMP's part to say it's so shocking. I'm sure it got more viewers that way :D

I think people are more shocked than offended. It's not like anyone is calling for her head on a stick or for her to be pelted with rocks in town square.
Other thoughts:
- Camila maybe should have been on this after show with Emily and Ty, because she did not understand and she was a part of the skit.
- I think the idea for this mission would have been a nice frame for the final mission - with some intense modifications, of course, to make it harder.
- Note to Dunbar - maybe the women are more used to putting on dresses than you guys on the show are to putting on tuxedos/suits? Or maybe it was just easier to slip on the dress compared to putting on pants and a jacket? Or maybe the women knew they needed to slightly slow it down to get into the dress while the guys tried to put on the tuxedo jackets two arms at the same time? It was funny seeing John struggle to get his jacket on.
- It was nice to see both CT and Diem try and make amends. Hopefully this will be it for them and they can both move on. I saw nice sides of each of them tonight, and it was definitely more pleasant.
- Did anyone expect to see something like they did on Road Rules: Velocity Tour where they actually did have to get legally married for a mission?

Good memory, he did. It's interesting how differently the situation was presented here than on the Real World.
Well said. And the people who are accusing anyone who considers blackface racist of being oversensitive, well I think you're coming across as insensitive and ignorant to the historical significance of blackface. So you really shouldn't speak on it. Instead of brushing people off, the key is to try to understand why it's offensive, apologize like Emily did and then we can move on and be considerate from that point on. I think Emily understands now and everyone including Ty knows she isn't racist. It was just a dumb, offensive mistake.
Well said....

MTV doesn't invite people to the Aftershow to teach life lessons, they invite people for the drama/ratings. You expect too much. ;)
I also want to say, I love Paula more and more. Did anyone else die laughing when they showed her making of Dunbar brushing his teeth angrily? "gingivitus!" She's a funny lady.
I reay liked that chalenge. It wasn't an athleteic clinic or anything but it was fun, directly competitive, and the ony water present was in the background!
This whole racist thing is a pretty hard subject. People make Asian jokes at me all the time and I think they're pretty funny. True or untrue stereotypes. People call me yellow when my skin isn't really yellow. It all comes with the intent. In society, the word f*** is bad when it's only bad because people feel the intent and emotion behind the word is bad. If people started taking the word f*** as just another way of saying "oh no" (when saying "****, I stubbed my toe!") or "screw you" (when saying "**** you") it wouldn't be so bad. I know the history has bad memories but you can't only be racist towards black people. If you want to say what Emily did was racist, then you have to say what Camilla did was racist, regardless of the past. Racism doesn't mean "hating someone because of their race, depending on if their race has had a negative past".
You know you effed up when Johnny Bannanas even says you were being too offensive.
If you watched Exual Tension on mtv.com, Bananas and CT were on Emily's side.
Honestly can't believe some of the comments on here. Is he suppose to just shrug it off like it's nothing? Emily most likely wasn't trying to be racist, but its still a thing that didn't need to be done. The people who are shrugging this off, probably don't even know the history behind the blackface, so that's the only logical reason they would dismiss. Some of you are probably think Ty is overreacting because he's Ty and he doesn't have a good reputation amongst members here.
And why are people bringing up things that Ty did in the past? Is that suppose to justify what Emily did here? As if he wasn't receiving alot of flack for his actions in past seasons. But because it's Emily, she doesn't deserve any criticism right? There are alot of black people that would get offended if somebody they cared about and trusted did that (not including me because I've seen worse, but that doesn't mean it isn't mean spirited and insensitive), because there's a negative history behind blackface. But Ty is the sensitive one?
But anyways, I still rooting for them because I like Emily and Ty is improving.
Racism doesn't mean "hating someone because of their race, depending on if their race has had a negative past".
Exactly. That's why I also hate words like "reverse-discrimination" or "reverse-racism" which implies that there's a "right" way to be racist. Camila actions were thought to be ok because she's a white person making fun of another white person. It's along the lines with the fact that you can call someone a cracker and it's cool but similar terms for other races are (appropriately) taboo. Racism is racism.
No one knows where the line is anymore. I remember on ESPN a week or two ago they were talking about Jeremy Lin and how Ben and Jerry's was forced to recall their special line of Jeremy Lin ice cream because they put fortune cookies in it and that was seen as marginalizing him as just being an Asian dude, while at the same time a portion of the Asian community was drawn in by him because they identified with him culturally. In my mind both of those things reduced him to being the face of a race, but one was ok and the other wasn't.
The past is the past. Something that was offensive in the past shouldn't always be offensive or we can't move forward as a society.
I hear what you are saying but you have to understand. When you are taking about centuries of oppresion, slavery, and institutionalized racism, issues are not going to go away in a heart beat. America is going to be dealing with this issues for a very very long time. It's an ugly part of our history and stuff like this is the icnrediby small price we have to pay for it today.
Emiy is not a racist, she is very sorry, she made a silly mistake. Everyone will have a different response. Ty was hurt and now she knows. Peope get upset because they think "Oh what's the big deal." Well if you don't know the history or if you can't relate you wont know what the big deal was. The fact of the matter is some people will get upset over actions like this that's the way it is.
It's a result of the legacy this country has been built on. As I said, the fact that some people may feel like the people are a little too sensitve or things are too Politicaly correct is a very small price to pay in comparission. It's a problem the counrty has created and it's a problem that will be dealt with for a very long time.
If you watched Exual Tension on mtv.com, Bananas and CT were on Emily's side.
They were all saying how Ty took it way out of proportion, and that Emily is no where near racist since she only dates black guys
I find it so funny Ty got that gap removed because that poster here seems to bring it up every week. My mom actually LOVES gaps so if she were younger she would be disappointed I'd bet.
At this point in the show, I make it a point not to watch spoilers. I already know of one because of an early season promo. I try not to look at them but early on I feel like it's harmless. The only thing I avoid are finals promos. I glance to see what they are doing (climbing a mountain, running a course, etc.) and then I look away.
At this point and I aint looking at jack squat. Anything they show will ruin something, especially with the way the episode ended.

Not necessarily its a case by case thing, but like you said one has a deep history. And that history is when used it usually includes mocking something that is persevered negative about that race. And Emily unknowingly or not did exactly that, when she also used "ghetto" slang trying to imitate Ty, when Ty does not even talk like that. Camilla wasnt mocking anything persevered negative about being white.
