Things aren't looking good for Mel and Mike...
Things aren't looking good for Mel and Mike...
I had a little hope, but it was quite clear from the early going that they were going to need a miracle to stay in the race. Hopefully Margie is Ok. She looks to be in good health for her age, but pulling a rickshaw in Thailand heat is rough on anyone and she probably just got dehydrated. I think Jaime is my least favorite cast member at this point. Nothing grates me more than condescending American travelers. It makes it harder for the rest of us when we go abroad... That dual 30 minute penalty was brutal. Glad to see that Mike & Mark still finished within minutes of the lead, although I am sure they would have enjoyed a week in Hawaii had they won! Amazing that they almost had an hour on everyone else.
Another good episode! :) The whole tiger thing was awesome! I would love to do some of the things these guys have gotten to do over the course of the race. Mel and Mike should have followed the group... If all the teams are going the opposite direction, they are probably going the right way...
Oh Mel & Mike! I love you! How cute were they in the herb shop with their unison "NOOO!", haha. They always make me smile. I agree, Jaime is my least favorite. She has no patience and seems to think yelling and getting frustrated will get you ahead with the locals. Karma seemed to bite them in the herb shop, didn't it? Mike was right when he called her the "mean girl" of the group.
Ahh, they always do such tricky editing to make it look like they're so close in finishing. I was really pulling for Mel and Mike. I hope Margie is ok too...hyperthermia is NASTY. I've had the pleasure of having that before, and it's not pretty. With a cool bath, a bit of rehydrating and some rest, she should eventually be good to go. I wonder if they extended the mandatory rest period for her to recoop. Jaime's attitude toward the locals (in a few episodes now) is exactly why a lot of foreigners hate Americans... I never really liked Mike and Mark, but I never thought they would pull a stunt like that. That karaoke mission looks AWESOME (although 2 weeks? Sad!)

Darn those editors for making me think Mel and Mike were close enough! Though, the fact that actually caught up to a team was way closer than I thought they would ever come after getting so lost. I love the idea of the karaoke mission. I like to see teams get a chance to let loose and laugh during a mission now and then. Just to have them relax and take a step back and regroup. It should be entertaining at the very least! I do hope Margie is ok, it was getting scary near the end when she was complaining about going numb and cold. Poor Luke could just look on helplessly at his mom suffering and he couldn't even communicate with the medical staff to know what was happening. At least I will have the Duel 2 premier to entertain me during the 2 week break!
I did enjoy the show last night. I think Margie had a bad case of Dehydration. I remember from being a counselor I had to make my kids drink every 10 minutes, literally. I got dehydrated last summer and spent the day in the hospital with an IV to rehydrate myself and then gatoraide. It can be very dangerous. I know they gave her the treatment she needed. it was crazy how she just blacked out and phil ran over to help her. SHE SHOULD NOT BE EMBARRASSED!!! I felt bad when she said that
Phil Keoghan blogs about Episode 7.
Crazy episode tonight. I know we say it all the time, but taxis can make or break you on this game. More spoilerific info from Phil after the jump... I thought Mel and Mike were going to be able to salvage it and escape elimination. Sad to see those guys go. Definitely a great team. I love when we get teams who really walk away from our show with a great bonding experience. I think Mel and Mike are one of those teams. They really looked like they enjoyed every second of the show and their time together. Great bonding between a father and a son. I can relate to that as I'm currently on the road with my dad on my "Ride Across America." Dad is pulling the Airstream, while I'm busting out 100 miles a day on the bike. Great start to the Ride on Saturday. Couple of hiccups along the way but so happy just to be underway. Was on the bike for 11 hours yesterday. Grueling first day, with a 9,000-foot vertical climb. Tons of Amazing Race fans showing their support along the way. Receiving warm greetings from people on the street in each town and all their well wishes are pushing me through the leg cramps. Loved the "call of the wild" element to tonight's episode. Teams didn't know what to expect when that elephant was hovering two feet above them. I could use an elephant massage right about now. How about Margie fainting from heat exhaustion at the mat? She was so overheated. Scary moment for us all — especially Luke. With Margie down, no one could communicate with him, which made it so much worse for Luke. Hope you guys are loving this season. I have to get some sleep. Riding to Vegas tomorrow. See ya....
[via ew]
