13: Fear is Real
If anyone else has heard about the show, I for one am totally psyched. It reminds me so much of one of my favorite shows Murder in Small Town X. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f738hdXPl5w http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkBsgbQtnjs

I caught the "Murder in Small Town X" thread somewhere around here, and I caught the episodes on Youtube. The series was really well-done. I saw some previews for 13: Fear is Real and it looks really promising.

I read into the cast bios as well and find the cast to be somewhat appealing. The show debuts Wednesday right after Real World so I think I will enjoy myself on that day.
FYI, there is going to be a RW aftershow at 11 PM after the premier episode.
This looks interesting although I'm a bit suspect as to the reality of it all. Creating actual fear is an art form (i.e. scare tactics) and I am hoping it achieves that goal via ingenious stagecraft rather than Blair Witch tomfoolery.
Not actually a catchy title is it? I'm a little suspect of the show as well, but only because of the network that bought it. (Of course, if they bought one of our shows, I would admittedly think they were the best network on TV -- I'm shallow like that occasionally.)
Yes, V1 we can all be a little shallow sometimes, and I did notice the Aftershow which kind of messes up the time schedule, but I will just record it and watch later. The powers of TiVo. Agreed Bacchus. I will still watch the show regardless, but I hope they don't use any form of the Blair Witch Project.

You keep me informed and if it is any good I'll watch online.
This show is a complete waste of time. I watched the premiere and it was not scary or horrifying. Hmm, the cast isn't completely alone since they have camera operators and producers following them in the woods.

I had a feeling it would be horrible. The whole idea of people being actually afraid while being chased around by a camera, sound crew and production assistant baffles me (unless you are afraid of them catching you picking your nose or something.) Hidden cameras are one thing, but filming it like you would film the Real World kills any and all reality for a show with this premise.
I have it DVR'd. Will chime in on this later =)
I have it DVR'd. Will chime in on this later =)
I made my comment from only watching the trailer. Bad Bacchus. Bad! I guess now I'll have to watch it so I have an informed opinion for my snark. :D
Ok, so I just watched it. (No spoilers lie ahead...but I will explain the show's setup) Bacchus...your point is a good one. Like...yes, its scary they're "abandoned" in the woods. Yes, its scary in the dark. Yes, being "buried alive" is a scary thing too. But it seems almost too staged. Like...obviously there's production behind this thing and not some crazy lunatic. Obviously they know they're reality contestants. So the things they do are creepy....but not too frightening given the circumstances. The show's outline is as follows: 13 people start. They're abandoned in the woods and have to sleep in a gross dirty cabin. Each week they have a challenge/mission to do. The 2 losers have to go to "execution" and 1 of them is killed off as a result. The show wasn't great...but it wasn't TERRIBLE either. Another fun part - in the woods there is a box locked inside a cage. this is called the "death box". The contestant that steals the death box becomes "a killer" to do the work of the Mastermind. The killer can then kill 3 people. BUT...if the killer is revealed/caught by the others...he/she is sent to execution automatically. I'm going to watch it for 2-3 more weeks. The people / casting doesn't seem too great. People are kind of bland and boring. IDK...it IS produced by Sam Raimi...and that's really the only reason I'm watching. It's worth a shot, I guess. PS....wikipedia says there are only 8 episodes so im guessing the killer attacks people and we get some double eliminations. i think i can hang in for 7 more..

It really isn't that bad, and obviously they know they are on a show, but it still would get a bit sppoky. Ex:Leah. The girl has issues. I enjoyed the show just for it being a bit different with some fun extras like the Death Box.

Yeah...considering its only supposed to have 8 total episodes...ill prolly just end up watching it.
i have this saved in my dvr, but I haven't watched yet. My husband really liked murder in small town x, and he hates reality tv. I hope this is something we can watch together
I liked the episode yesterday. A big step up from the first episode. THings got way more interesting.
I liked the episode yesterday. A big step up from the first episode. THings got way more interesting.
I AGREE!!! Episode 2 was INSANELY more interesting! I'll describe their "mission" below, in spoiler form, without giving away who lost the mission and who was eliminated....
They were put into pairs on canoes in the middle of a dark, dark lake. A mystery box lied in the middle. The bad-guy-dude said there were leeches, snakes, and alligators in the lake and they didn't want to end up in there. They unwrap their mystery box and its a box of snakes with two scoopers in each box. They're instructed to pull the plugs on their canoes, and they have to reach inside the snake box to get the scoopers to scoop the water out. At any time they could raise a white flag / give up / go to elimination. So they're scooping away...and then the bad-guy-dude says that one of them has to reach in, grab two snakes, and hold them above their head.... it was actually pretty cool to watch!
Ep 2 definitely gave me more hope! Previews said "the killer" strikes next week! I'm stickin' this one through, it looks like! My DVR ******* out though and I only heard the elimination....i didnt see what happened. Can someone fill me in? I know who left...but couldnt see what they had to do, really.

The second episode got way more interesting because we were finally getting to see more of the people, their paranoia, a litte bit more fear, and everything. Well what they had to do was:
The three of them were put in some cargo crate, where this huge cage device was put over there head, and was connected to the walls and ceiling by multiple chains. They saw that there was two compartments tot he cage, one with their head, and another with rats. They had to unclip each chain and unscrew it to get it off of their head, and once that was done, they had to find a key, which would unlock a metal harness around their stomach, allowing them to get away. The last person left would have the rats run into the compartment with their head. The elimination was quite emotional and entertaining.
Not to mention the argument between Erica and Ted was fun to watch. Erica brought up some good points. Ted was so fast to jump to conclusions, but wouldn't offer any opinions when asked. I am very interested to see who the killer hacks.
I'm watching the new episode on live tv so i can DVR Lost and fast forward through that. Someone just got hacked!

hahahah that was the LAMEST execution thingie everrrr
Don't worry about the first hour of Lost (unless you are lost.) It is just character summaries to bring newbies up to speed.
Is it a recap, or more like a character summary? Cuz i dont really remember what happened last season
Is it a recap, or more like a character summary? Cuz i dont really remember what happened last season
It talks about each character while at the same time guiding the story all the way from when the plane crashed until the finale last season. It was a full bore, "If you have never seen the show, this is what you need to know."

UGH
My DVR recorded a new episode on Friday night. Checked cw.com and 13: Fear Is Real is now @ Fridays, 9pm. Looks like this show isn't getting renewed haha
Looks like this show isn't getting renewed
In other news: The earth is round! Wait a second...my bad. It is flat! Haha, just kidding around. I am still thinking of watching the entire series in one shot at some point down the road. I was going to totally bail, but you guys seem to like it for what it is, so obviously it has a few redeeming qualities.

There are much better ways to spend your time!
Last night's episode was insanely entertaining. I loved the edit they gave Leah and I am pulling for her to win. The underdogs are always much funner to root for. I wished they would have done more with the revealing of the killer. I like how dirty this game is becoming.
I am officially upset. Both Cody and LEah have gone, and I have no one to pull for. Leah going really killed it for me. But I guess Erica will settle for now. In my opinion, she kills Nasser or Ted. They are the easiest at this point, and she won't go after Melissa. At this point it really seems like one of the girls is going to win. Or Adam.
Oops I read this before watching the episode (well its playing right now, but I don't really care about it...). This show could've been great, but it's been terrible lately. And I agree....Cody and Leah were my favorites. BUMMER MAN!
