I don't think it's a coincidence that he's back only after being on All Stars 4; if he wasn't on All Stars 4, he probably wouldn't be cast on this season, which is... weird. When Jay "beat" CT in their OG Take Shelter Elimination, CT clearly opened the door enough to get inside (he actually did after Jay won) to prove he could slip in, its just there was still some chains on his door so it seemed he was told by the producers to remove every piece of chain/rope from his door. Jay on the other hand eventually DID remove all ropes/chains, completely opened his door and hit his buzzer.
Then with Brandon vs Ryan, Ryan clearly still had alot of chains/ropes hanging on his door, he just opened it enough to squeeeze himself inside, changing the rules of the game. For the most part, Hall Brawl stayed the same, and with Pole Wrestle same thing (except for the very first iteration where you were supposed to be on your knees the whole time). Sure, with Ball Brawl they modified it when a ball was dead or not, but Take Shelter shoulda been replaced with another like 'Knot So Fast' or 'Strung Out'
