Looks like a lot of necrotic tissue around his ankle, which is not good, because if it gets into the joint, it can get real bad, real quick. They're probably gonna have to cut dead tissue and debride it.
I really hope they can save his foot, but his life is always gonna be more important and he could live a very normal life with a lower leg amputation and a prosthetic. My extended family sells prosthetics and lower leg/foot prosthetics have gotten fairly advanced and you can regain up to 75-80% of mobility/agility. Let's hope he doesn't have to go through that though.
As for the go fund me, people should absolutely not make fun of Nelson. Health insurance is a scam in the US and Nelson could be on the hook for hundreds of thousands of dollars if he has bad/no insurance.

His foot/leg reminds me of former NFL QB Alex Smith when he had a compound fracture. Thankfully they were able to eventually after several surgeries save his leg. He even came back and played 1 more season before retiring. Just hoping Nelly's story has a similar happy ending and he doesn't have to lose a foot/leg.
