15 had disgusting players but the episodes were very interesting at least. 16 was just boring garbage. 15 had a few gems amongst the racists too (Elissa, Candace, Helen and Jesse)
BB16 is when it turned into a family friendly corny joke. The cast had potential too but Derrick's great game ruined any chaos and entertainment.
And when you think about it, because it's turned into such a corny joke of a show, you could also argue that MTV trying to force the same tone as BB is a result of BB16's impact.
So you can also blame BB16 for the way The Challenge has gone to shit to the point where throwing a drink gets you a warning. Told you. Cancer.

honestly, her being an alternate was purely the fault of the producers. there are people who have done less on previous seasons but keep getting main spots season after season (nam, kaycee, etc)

Yeah but BB21 and BB15 are rightfully reviled and purposely left behind in the gutters
BB16 is the season they show to recruits during sequester before the season starts and it continues to be a cancer on this modern era of the show.
So while it may not arguably be the worst, it's left a devestating impact like no other season for the worse.
BB15 was sickening. I couldn't even watch after the *** I saw. But I was more into Big Brother back in the day seasons 6/7 anyway. Those were great.
