As long as eliminations are individual I honestly shouldn't care who is partners with who.
I agree with this to a degree, but I feel like if there's no skulls then some people and their partners won't see an elimination (I.E. Kaycee). So whoever her partner is, they might get a ride right to the next stage of the game.

Josh was purged out of WOTW first for failing on a puzzle. He's not the brightest despite him doing well on the slider last season.

Agreed. But I also am not really a fan of switching partners. It's kind of fun to see their team chemistry build (or fall apart) over the season

Josh isn't bad at all, he's never really underperformed except for the first purge puzzle and he's constantly doing pretty well.
Ok I just remember him also missing the rope on the water challenge last season. So he's had his moments haha.
