Earlier he did yell something like "get off of Kyle" and started yanking people off so he was trying to help him out.
I think theres a Vet vs UK mentality so he probably just wanted a Vet to go to the next round instead of the UK people that were on top of him. Wouldn't be surprised if he thought that giving it to Wes would keep him out of elimination as opposed to one of the UK people winning and putting him in.

Second, I always love when we can add to the Bananas elimination loss highlight reel. That was also an objectively bad choice from Bananas in quite another overreaction hissyfit. And it was a bad decision whether he won or he lost because you know that Zach was going to kiss his butt and had Bananas won he would have been without one of the teams that would blindly die for him the most outside of Leroy. I mean Zach pretty much get sent home last season JUST because he wouldn't let Amanda have her way in throwing Bananas in. I guess this elimination was poetic in that regards too.

CT described him and Bananas as having a "truce" in that they aren't really friends but they also don't come for one another. They try to stay out of each other's way I guess unless they have to get involved. Also would Bananas have known that CT gave Wes a ball depending on where he was at the time? (As opposed to watching the episode from home)

The tribunal is indeed lame af. Nothing happens there and people in the tribunal (if they aren't in the same alliance) have no real power only immunity.
John has done far too many of these to be making emotional decisions on who to call out. Gus/Jenna was the easy call. The primary objective is to stay in the game. Nany would have been mad for about six seconds and Zach wouldn't care at all since he doesn't actually care about Jenna.
