I wonder if they had a convo or if any of the Vets had a convo with the prospects they wanted as partners.

I would think those interviews were probably filmed after they chose partners and were guided to answer like that to fit the narrative of episode. Also they could have each said something about some of the prospects in the interviews but production just wanted to air them talking about their future partner.
