It's like the redemption house double cross on FR where teams were sent home without ever competing or being eliminated properly ( purge ), but at the end everyone got to participate in the redemption challenge.
For this season, the first eliminations were pairs, there may be some people that was screwed up by his/her partner and was sent home because of him/her. Now they get to compete alone and have the full responsability. Most fair yes, but it's not really " fair "

It is what it is. Like I said, this season is immaculate compared a super messy season with redemptions that don't make sense, you can lose 3 times and stay in the game, mercenaries with rigged elims, etc. This twist is mild and at least everyone got to compete and if you're out you're out at least.
There's always gonna be twists, it's what they think they need to do for ratings/shock factor to keep people interested. I don't agree with it, but this was a lot more fair than usual.
