It was pretty suspenseful, the characters weren't developed, nor was there really a reason for the strangers to attack, but I didn't mind that. In a vaccum, it was a good movie. Put scrutinize it next to other horrror/suspense films, it's not as a great but not trash as you perceive it to be.

I have this uncanny ability of suspense of disbelief. It helps me enjoy a film while knowing it's unrealistic for a car to just drive through skyline from skyline (Furious 7 or what it 6?). They do stupid decisions, but that's not reason enough for me to just dismiss the film all together. I don't recall the film as I watched it only twice and that was when it was in theathers. But I do recall enjoying it and cringing a bit when the guy was in the house unbeknowst to Liv Tyler's character.
It is trash, there's no argument or evidence that can disprove that. I can dismiss whoever's opinion I want, that's my choice, that's my right, if people are irritated by that I don't care nor would I ever. It's not like I'm dismissing an opinion that actually matters lol.
