The Challenge: Seasons Synopsis

Battle of the Bloodlines  Explosions’ Cory & Skeleton’s Tony make their debut as the game takes on a new twist of partnering the alums with their relatives.  Unfortunately, an opportunity to introduce dynamic new personalities into the game is wasted as the bloodlines are barely introduced & are mostly there to prop up their more established kin.  Abram is brought in as a replacement & screws up his girlfriend’s plan to “flirt her little butt off” to increase her chances at a win with Thomas of all people.  Cory finds his inner boy toy when he finds himself in purely physical dalliance with Aneesa.  Bananas gets ejected late in the game by his sworn enemy Cara Maria.  Jenna & her cousin Brianna do a 180 from a terrible start & shock everyone with their impressive performances in the second half of the season.  Aneesa is the last to be sent home for the fourth time in Challenge history & kills her best shot at victory.  Very weak challenges & elimination rounds help to further mar what could have been a great entry in the series.  High Point- Abram gives this chapter a much-needed shot of adrenaline with his classic madman rants & histrionics upon discovering Cara Maria’s infidelity.  KellyAnne makes a very welcome return after a 7-year absence & proves she still has the crazy spunkiness & determination she always did.  These two prove the fact that old school vets can still bring the drama & can more than keep up with their younger counterparts.  Low Point- More random, pointless AYTO players are thrust upon us & continue to steal spots that should be reserved for actual RW, RR & FM alumni.  Tony suffers a bad fall into the water & is forced to leave the game with his brother Shane, thus robbing the viewers of more scummy bathroom hookups, confusing arguments with drunk Latinas & fierce, Vogue-inspired sobriety tests.  After 6 years of crying, whining & horrible dye jobs, Cara Maria is finally awarded a win with her obnoxious cousin who looks as creepy & skeevy as the prisoners he is paid to guard in real life.  Historical Moment- For the first time in the show’s history, the final challenge takes place in the heart of a city as the gritty streets of Berlin host the three team’s last grueling test.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              B

You're a very generous grader

I tend to be.  As I've said before, even when a season sucks, there are always good things to focus on too.

I agree that Kellyanne and Cory made the season more enjoyable. Proof that some one we haven't seen in years can bring more drama than some drunk Latina named Camila. I also think Aneesa brought interesting drama and Jenna gave us a good redemption storyline. But man were those eliminations boring as ****. Only enjoyable one was Cara vs Aneesa

In my opinion of course

Rivals 3

This season has the distinction of being the most abysmal in the show's history.  The bright spots are very few & miles far between.  Ashley from Explosion smashes onto the scene & wastes no time in making her mark.  Between her smutty bathroom hookup with Jamie, her screaming matches with drunken breakdowns & her fierce competitive nature, she cements herself as a true challenge star reminiscent of Tonya.  Unfortunately, the bad far outweighed the good.  Wes & Nany barely seem to care that they're even there, Averey is ousted from the game early on when her yawn-inducing partner Leroy is sent home with an injury, the cast is inundated with useless, pathetic & irrelevant Are You The One rejects too vile & grotesque to mention by name & everyone seems all too willing to hand Bananas another easy road to victory.  Camila is at her most frenzied & being paired with loose cannon Tony does her mindset no good.  After an ugly, alcohol-fused skirmish, both are sent home midway through the game.  When Camila's antics are a season highlight, there is something very wrong.  Vince proves himself to be a loveable ******* as he prepares to take the villain crown once his cousin departs for the inevitable retirement home for aging **********.  High Point-The last ten minutes of the season save it from being an absolute unwatchable mess.  Johnny outdoes his 9 years of cocky arrogance with the most underhanded move in the show's history.  A last-minute twist allows Bananas to keep the entire $275k first place prize for himself as Sarah is left in a crumpled heap of blubbering jelly on the mountaintop.  Legend says a stream made from her tears now flows down the Argentinian valley.  As justice goes it is not unpoetic.  Low Points-A decent-sized novella could be written on all of the awful things wrong with this season.  In the grand tradition of stretching rivalries paper thin, the majority of these "rivalries" involve people who seem to get along quite well.  The show begins with a 5 episode stretch with only one actual elimination round, as cast members are eliminated then brought back, sent home involuntarily or just quit.  The weak tradition of the timed checkpoint/overnight final is boring & terribly anticlimactic.  Historical Moment-The end of the road seems to have come for Wes, Nany, Sarah & Camila as all four seemed to have moved on.   D-

Great Writeup. This season was ****. Next Season better ******* deliver.

I never liked this season at all. And your thoughts summed up perfectly everything I hated about it. Bright spots for me were Cory/Ashley and Devin. And I like KellyAnne and Wes, but everyone else was meh or annoying to me. On top of that, it ended with another JB win so it just wasn't interesting and it was very predictable.

I agree, this season sucked a fat one.

I am praying that next season rebounds from this ****.  It can't possibly be worse.

Also, good writeup dylan. Interesting thread.

I'd be weary of saying this...

Also, good writeup dylan. Interesting thread.

Appreciate it.  I thought this one might be hard since I barely paid attention to it, but once I started recalling all of the trash, it just came right out.

DA, I am very, very worried about that myself.

Reading through the thread, great stuff dylan.

I wanted to give some thoughts on the seasons that I've seen enough to judge. I want to rewatch Seasons 1 and The Gauntlet especially.

Battle of the Sexes: I can see why this is the greatest challenge for many, it really gave us everything. It was fun, it was dramatic, and the cast was great. Plus that intro really kicked ***.

The Inferno: Still my favorite challenge. Or at least will be in my top 3.

Battle of the Sexes 2: Good challenge, but not great. The weakest season in the golden era, imo. Still very memorable though.

Inferno 2: The season where I really became a true fan. Loved the concept and the teams. Great competition and drama.

The Gauntlet 2: Didn't care much for this challenge then but it's aged very well and is the last true RW vs RR challenge so that makes it special.

Fresh Meat: Hated the concept, but this season was actually pretty good and I even enjoyed it then. But at this point, the tone of the challenges were different.

The Duel: Okay season. Had some memorable moments but I wouldn't say it was really good. I would have actually liked to see better competitors on the male side (Abe, Darrell, Landon, Timmy) to name a few.

The Inferno 3: Okay season as well. I got pretty bored with this season after the first couple of episodes and I didn't like Susie and the season was very focused on her.

The Gauntlet 3: So terrible. Not worthy of being rewatched. The finale and the reunion were good though.

The Island: See Gauntlet 3 but no memorable episodes at all.

The Duel 2: Watch the premiere episode and the shit they should have shown. And that's it. This shouldn't have even been considered a duel challenge either.

The Ruins: Had a lot of potential with the comeback of Darrell, Wes, Veronica, Syrus, and Ibis but it fell flat. The drama was entertaining for a bit but this was the first challenge where it started to look like a miserable experience being on the challenges. Also a JEK win season so blehhh.

Fresh Meat 2: The Kenny vs Wes show but it was so boring. Only saving grace was Landon winning it all. Was especially ****** off Darrell got booted so early.

Cutthroat: Refreshing challenge and gave us fresh competitors to see. I can say it's top 3 in challenges post Gauntlet 2.

Rivals: Interesting concept but it was just average. CT/Adam and Evan/Nehemiah was really the only true rivalry.

Exes 1: Boring. Didn't even care for most of the Exes pairs.

Seasons 2: Best season of that era because we got to see new competitors and they actually provided drama and a memorable season. San Diego 2 winning it all tainted it a bit though.

Rivals 2: Was good in some parts, but mostly average. The rivalries were becoming really stretched though. Liked Jordan and Marlon as a team.

Free Agents: Good concept but just average too. Like the Duel 1, could have benefited from better competition.

Exes 2: Pretty good season. Focused mostly on game play and it was sad but nice seeing Diem and Knight one last time. Top 2 in this era of challenges, imo.

Bloodlines: Pretty boring and we got no backstory on most of the Bloodlines so they were just background characters.

Rivals 3: Awful. The competition was lacking, the players were uninteresting. I ended up hating mostly everyone this season.

I pretty much agree with you on all the seasons. What did you think of The Gauntlet 1?

We definitely think alike for the most part, portland2.  I'm rewatching the entire series now (on Inferno 2) & it's probably not helping that I'm comparing the golden era to today's shitty standards .

Actually I think Rivals 2 was below average. No offense to Diem, but I was tired of the CT/Diem story that season and that was focused on a lot. That season was probably more forgettable than I thought. But I didn't hate that season.

Also Debut, I remember putting the Gauntlet in my top 5 challenges, but it's been a while since I've actually rewatched it. So I want to go back and see it again. But I still thought it was very good.

Awesome. I can never get tired of rewatching the Inferno 2.

What would have made this season better would have been Meelz weekly recaps, but I'm sure he too didn't want to relegate himself to watch this subpar season.

But Dylan's recap gave me life, and I actually didn't entirely hate this season.

in other words. every season sucked in your eyes

Rewatching the original Battle of the Seasons. Can't believe I haven't seen this season much. It's great.

I will rate the seasons I watched first hand (meaning seeing them live on tv)

Duel - This was my first challenge so obviously I think of it a bit highly. The Wes vs Derrick elimination round was excellent stuff. Diem taking off her wig for the first time was another big moment as well.

Inferno 3 - The only thing I remember from this season was CT punching that Davis kid in the face.

Gauntlet 3 - not a good season but that finale was hilarious to see. Big Easy being a big *****.

The Island - one of the worst seasons of this show. Really cant think of a good moment at all.

Duel 2- not as good as the Duel, but it was a decent season. Landon killed it that whole season and was the MVP of it. Favorite moment was Landon messing with Isaac.

The Ruins - decent casting, but terrible results. Champions team was just overkill that season. Wes trying to throw challenges was very fun to watch, but couldnt stand the likes of Susie anymore. Favorite moment of that season was Wes trying to throw the first mission on that rope lol.

Fresh Meat 2 - lot of people dislike this season, but I thought it was decent. Landon proved once again he is one of the best players in this shows history. I didnt care for the Kenny vs Wes stuff much, but seeing Wes alliance get worn down 1 by 1 was amusing! Also it gave us some new faces that were good additions to the show like Laurel and not so good additions like Cara. My favorite moment was Brandon being a ******* and drinking a beer before elimination hahahahahah

Cutthroat - Honestly this season was my favorite as a viewer. The new format was a breath of fresh air and not to mention, the cast was real good. Lot of strong competitors male and female. Best moment is obviously CT vs Backpack. Sarah though was real annoying on this season thinking she was something good just cause she made it to the finals on the Ruins. Girl please.

Rivals - Another season that people are divisive on, but I enjoyed this season a lot. It had real rivalries for the most part! Wes carrying Kenny was glorious, and CT going at it with Wes was so funny god ****. It was a really good cast too, except for seeing Paula win, thanks to being paired with a terminator.

Battle of the Exes - Dont remember much from this season. I just remember Ty getting so upset at Emily thats it. From what i remember I didnt hate the season, but I didnt love it either.

Seasons 2: This season I remember a lot of. I liked that it was a lot of new blood taking over and it was a backpackless season so that is a plus. That being said, I didnt enjoy it as much as others do here. Most memorable moment was Rob and Marie going at Sam(iirc) and Derek i think

Rivals 2: Not good. Fake rivalries like Frank and Backpack so production could redeem backpack for leaving him out of seasons by pairing him with the guy that won seasons. I was happy to see CT finally get that win though. Knight reenacting Marlon was so funny to me. Knight just cracked me up

Free Agents: I liked this season a lot! It had a good group of casting with some strong players and drama kings and queens. My favorite moment was when Jordan went full idiot and pulled all the cards to get backpack and gets humbled. I would put this season slightly below The Duel for myself.

Exes 2: Decent, but not that good.

Bloodlines: GARBAGE

Rivals 3: GARBAGE x US Presidential Election 2016 = thats what i think of rivals 3

Yeah the premiere alone was pretty good. A lot of drama and interesting group of people.

Yeah. Them all skydiving at the beginning was awesome and Kelly telling Danny how proud of him she was one of my favorite parts of the first episode(I wonder of those two are still friends).

I live for Belou. My young self wasn't too fond of her but now I loved her presence on Battle of the Seasons.

I like how they got past cast members to host. Would be nice if TJ could take a break and we could see someone like Chet or even Coral be a host.

I loved Belout when I was young. I mean the girl brought her baby on the challenge. On top of that she was crazy. It's a crime she only did one show.

What's funny was Mark and Eric were better hosts than TJ ever was.

Looking forward to the review of Invasion of the Champions when the season ends.

It's fun going back to this thread and reminiscing about the challenges, even the bad seasons.

I'm really happy that Invasion has turned out to be so much better than the horrible Bloodlines/Rivals 3 seasons. I was almost going to drop this show after Rivals 3. The Invasion cast was amazing, the only bad thing about the season was the terrible format. But Darrell and Shane's comebacks + the Ashley M/Amanda/Sylvia trio made up for it <3
