Hi Everyone! I have been lurking for a while, and thought this forum would be best to jump in and get my feet wet. A little intimidating since you all seem to know each other and have been around for a while. I originally found Vevmo when looking for more info on Diem, after learning she was sick again. Finally made an account a few months ago so I can keep my place in threads. Haha! This is my first time on a Forum, so be nice I have spent lots of time in facebook groups, with a bunch of *****y hormonal mothers and pregnant women, this will be a nice change of pace.
Last season of AHS was my first, and I liked it enough to watch the other seasons. My favorite is probably Coven. I could see that becoming it's own show, and would really love to see it continued. Kathy Bates was my favorite part of the show. Not sure how I feel about Hotel, yet. Especially Lady Gaga. I was hoping for something fresh, but it seems they might be recycling a bit from Murder House, with the spirits that are stuck and all. Hoping it gets better! I am excited to 'watch' this season with you all and have a place to discuss, also looking forward to following the new Challenge season with everyone. You all have me cracking up! Your memories for details from past seasons are amazing. My memory has been shit since having two kids. Haha!
everyone noticed Marcy The Realtor (from Murder House) in the premiere last night, right? lol can't believe I forgot to mention it in here... so Murder House is definitely contected to Hotel (and Asylum is connected with Freak Show)
There's a segment of people that are going to like the premier. They're not playing to the masses though IMO
There's nothing wrong with people liking something I hate though no one has really explained why they like it
I thought the acting was excellent in the premiere. I thought the soundtrack was also one of the best in five seasons. The opening with the two girls, IMO, was brilliant. I enjoyed their snarkiness and ought they played well off of Kathy Bates. The foursome scene was extremely well done and the build up to it with the meeting in the park added to it in a positive mean. I thought the scene with Sarah Paulson and Matt Bomer and how he OD'ed and her death were also very well done. I'll admit that the detective and his family life were a bit of a bore, but everything actually kept my attention, something that hasn't happend since Asylum.

Rumor has it that there will be a trip to the MH at some point this season.
I finally watched this. And it was okay. I'm comfused though on what is going on with the kids, is Sarah Paulson a ghost, all the guys look the same. Like for a second I thought Matt Bomer had a twin. Gaga is basically The Fame Monster ****. Where was Angela Bassett......? The 80s music but we are in present day. It's a lot going on.
I rewatched the premier in hopes I was just not in a good mood while watching it and it was better than I hoped...it wasn't
The acting, as per usual, was great. O'Hare is excellent no matter what role he plays and he has shown, by far, the most range. Bentley and Bomer were solid. Sevingy was great but in a very limited role--unfortunately I'm wagering her role gets even smaller or she gets killed off early. Paulson annoys me and I feel like her characters are repetitive. I though she was best in Season 1--much better in a supporting role. Lady Gaga was better than I expected. Bates is always good.
Murphy went for the shock factor far too often in this one. The scene with the man having his tongue cut off and eyes ripped out all while still inside of his dead mistress was a bit of overkill and stolen slightly from the movie Se7en. The foursome scene was slightly over-the-top but it accomplished his goal so I don't really have a problem with it. The Max Greenfield scene seemed to be completely irrelevant--hopefully there was a point to it. If that was a one episode arch for Greenfield it was a waste of his time--well, I guess he got paid.
The moment they showed Holden it was clear he was going to be one of the children in the hotel that we saw previously. Fortunately they aren't wasting time by trying to mislead anyone about that. Bates killing Paulson's character for killing Bomer's character was sadly predictable as well.
As others have mentioned the music was good (though I couldn't care less about that aspect of the show) and the acting was great but we again have far too many characters with no centralized plot and it is going to be a chaotic mess. Especially when they introduce Bassett and Peters to the mix.
Hopefully next season they limit the main cast to 4-5 people...season one focused on 5 people for the most parts (Ben, Viven, Violet, Ben & Constance)...**** even Lange didn't appear in every episode. O'Hare & Conroy were great in key supporting roles. As were Rabe & Mara. Quinton & Paulson appeared in 3 or 4 episodes. We were given the opportunity to actually know characters and care about them. Now we're lucky if we know there names. The cast is far too big...that's the biggest problem.

I'm a little drunk, but I'm pretty sure sober me would agree, but this was an excellent post. Very accurate, only thing that I disagree with is your opinion of the episode. I really enjoyed it. lot of good points KVM.

Agreed with everything said. The acting was great but there are far too many characters and things going on that the storylines are all over the place to the point where the plot gets lost or even makes no sense. I really like the setting of the show, the hotel looks awesome, with all of the rooms, long hallways and secret passage ways, but the season can't survive/shine just on that. I'm hoping that it picks up over the next episode or two but I dont have high expectations. Especially like you said with Angela Bassett and even Peters still needing to make their debut.
The first season was by far the best in my opinion. The storyline was great and that's probably because they had 5 main characters with other smaller characters rotating in and out instead of having like 17 main characters.
Season 1 was not that great IMO. I finally finished and it was really whatever. Asylum is still my favorite.
Season one will always be my favorite. The different stories that were incorporated, I.E. the Black Dahlia; the Piggy Man; etc. all kept my attention. I'll admit, the last two episodes felt like a serious downgrade, but I will forever have a place in my heart for season one. The Halloween episodes and the story of the student massacre was extremely entertaining to me and the scene where they confront tate for what he did and how he took their lives away will always be one of my favorites.
I'm probably in the minority here, but I'm not excited for Evan Peters this season. ****, I wouldn't even miss Finn Wittrock if he wasn't present. His character does seem interesting, but I am afraid that I'm never going to be able to look at him as anybody but Dandy in disguise. Bates, Lange, Bassett, O'Hare, even Emma Roberts have been quite disguiseble in their roles where I didn't feel they are "masked" from their original characters. Hoping I'm proven wrong but I feel like Dandy was such an iconic and bold character right off the bat, it'll be difficult to keep my mind set in Finn's new role.

I actually feel the same way. I feel like as soon as I see him I'm gonna think of him as Dandy. Just ilke how I can never see Daniel Radcliffe as anyone but Harry Potter. But we will see how it goes.

Great comparison, exactly how I see it. Murphy does an excellent job with making viewers transition into new characters, like with Paulson this season, when I think of her I instantly see Sally instead of Bette and Dot. Like you said, we will see how it goes.
Season 1 was not that great IMO. I finally finished and it was really whatever. Asylum is still my favorite.
Season 1 was my favorite. Asylum is a close second I just did not understand/like the alien part of that season. Without that it would have been gold.
Season 1 FTW!!!! Asylum is also my close second favourite, but I think i'm in the rare minority that actually found the alien story pretty interesting. A lot of ppl thought it was completely random, but its actually not really random at all when you think of the context and time period... Talk of alien abductions and UFO sightings were huge in the 60s.. and were also a huge reason for a lot of ppl being sent to the looney bin. The fact that the alien stuff was never explained is sort of fitting as well, given that nobody really knows anything about them... why did they want alma, what they were doing to kit, how did they fix pepper, etc. We can't answer questions we know nothing about.. sort of like that HBO show The Leftovers were 2% of the world's population randomly disappears one day without any explanation... the show creators have already said they will never answer why it happened. The show is about what sort of effects there are on the characters given the strange sitation. I took that the same was as the alien story. We will never know why... but we do see how the aliens affect kit and his mental state in a mental insitution. It did seem abnormal for the show, but that's sort of why I loved it so much.. it was so out of left field and interesting to me! haha
Coven started strong but turned into a straight up comedy part way through and Freakshow was a Freaking mess.
I definitely agree that Hotel has great potential and I have been saying that for years now... a smaller cast makes the show SO much better!!! A clear storyline and supporting characters that come and go... Murphy just got high on the fact that so many ppl wanted to be in his show that he lost sight of what originally made it so good. Well that and the other reason I love Murder House the most is that it was part Horror Story and part family drama. That's always a good combo (Bates Motel!)

rewatching the premiere of Asylum since its on tv right now.... forgot how GOOD this show used to be. Like seriously. The show has changed so much...
I tried to re watch this but nope. As soon as she said "no wifi the hotel is dead" it should of just been like *grab your belongings and exit*
*roll credits*
I'll just wait till Evan makes his cameo.
Lies. Her part in Asylum will go down in history books. I still remember her crawling down the street with no legs!
