The Challenge: Unpopular Opinions

I'm prob. Going to receive a lot of flack, but I don't really like any of the old seasons, theyre just not interesting to me. The only one that I kind of liked was inferno 2. But I love everything after Gauntlet 2

I will agree and disagree. In terms of drama, the older cast members just had something that newer cast members cannot provide. Many have tried but failed to fill the shoes of old cast members. 

However, it terms of competition, the older challenges were pathetic. The elimination rounds on The Inferno were some of the stupidest ideas I have ever seen. So I will agree and say the newer challenges are better in terms of competition. 

So here is my unpopular opinion, overall, my favorite era of the challenges were from Fresh Meat-Battle of the Exes.

Not really IMO. The competition is weaker now than it was back in the older challenges mainly because it's repetitive and predictable as hell. The same politics, same game moves made by the same people and the same people making it to the end. and the same people winning. No surprises and no upsets. Exes 2 deviated from that and it went a long way in making that challenge good and the competition worth caring about for once. I hope this next season follows suit.

Back then it was somewhat predictable too with Road Rules always winning. Miz = today's Bananas with him usually making it to the end. Veronica always made it to the end. Darrell always made it to the end. Mark usually made it to the end. There's not much difference from back then to today outside of better challenges and eliminations today. There was and still is drama of people who hate eachother drama of the game and drunken drama. People just have a hard time letting go of the older challenges because that's when most people on here started watching. I started around Battle of the Sexes but I'll admit I love the Challenges way more than I did back then.

Well Veronica didn't always get to the end. She got the boot on Seasons 1 and Both Battle of the Sexes. And while I do agree there are alot of similarities from then to now there are key differences that made those challenges good. For one the fan favorites of that time actually brought something to the show you knew why they were cast so much and they were much more likable. Now half of the regulars don't do shit are some of them serve no purpose on these shows. And the missions were much more diverse and didn't require you to be some athletic freak to do(same goes for eliminations) And the seasons as a whole back then were consistently good whereas now most seasons now are ****** or average. And they also were much diverse in terms of casting..they didn't just focus on the regulars, they cast people from the older seasons as well to coincide with the younger regulars and that resulted in diverse casts that were never the same from season to season...these days you'd be hard pressed to find someone whom appeared pre Sydney/Fresh Meat 2..and also every single cast member appeared on either The Real World or Road Rules. Not a single non-cast member in sight. I personally think the challenges were better back then for the reasons I stated and I think that goes for alot of others that love the past seasons as well.

The first bold is opinion though. I like Bananas, Wes, CT(now) more than Mark, Dan, Theo, Darrell etc. Those guys were boring in my opinion. The girls I'll give you cause Coral, Veronica, Katie, Julie were great but todays isn't that bad. I also like that challenges and eliminations are more physically demanding. It shouldn't be easy to make it to the end and win the cash prize. They cast people from "older seasons" because back then those seasons weren't that old lol. The Non-castmember stuff is just pointless to argue with you about. These are just my opinions though and although I didn't hate challenges back then I think todays challenges are much better. Again I think people just enjoy older challenges because it's kind of nostalgic for them and how they first got started watching the show.

Well yeah..i'm the opposite. I'll take Dan/Theo/Darrell over Wes/Backpack/CT anyday and it's not just nostalgia. I feel like that latter three are just unlikable and while you could say the former three were boring..well I'll take boring over unlikable anyday(and Darrell did have his little moments but they were few and far between).  And the girls are nowhere near the level of women that did the challenges then IMO. For one they spoke up and didn't just let the men take over. I feel like alot of the women do that now. There's hardly anyone who will take control and fight for what they want.

And I personally think there should be a balance regarding the missions/eliminations/final..I don't think it should be easy to get to the end but it shouldn't be unecessarily hard either. These people are 20-something reality "stars" these are not trained army men or Navy Seals and they aren't professional athletes either. There's no reason for all the crossfit over the topness of some of these games(i'm mainly speaking of the finals but some of the missions and eliminations fall into this too)

I honestly don't think it's nostalgia...I think it's just the seasons back then were just better and more fun to watch than they are now. I just rewatched Battle of the Sexes 2 recently and I felt like it really highligted the fun they all had on the shows. There's none of that now excpet in the STSHS special after the season. There's no lightness and fun there anymore...it's all just seems so serious and grimm.

It's a reality competition show, if being in shape is relevant than do it to win that quick money.  Go change your tampon, Debut.

And that tampon comment was dumb. I don't see the problem in not liking this extreme stuff they have them do. It can still be competitive and entertaining with balanced missions. The Fresh Meat era was a good example of that.

Well another Unpopular opinion is that I loved JEK, so watching those seasons were fun For me, but I can also see why people hate the shit out of those seasons.

I agree with the bolded. I hated that alot of challenges that time were basically "JEK and Friends!" And it also didn't seem that they were introducing the newer RW seasons the way they should have been(I think that Fresh Meat 2 had a hand in this too). And the rookies that got on didn't really make a dent there. It was all just dissapointing.

And on MTV making those three stars..I've said it before but they are dumb as hell for trying to make certain people the "stars" and "face" of this show that's supposed to have a different/rotating cast every season.

The bolded you cannot deny....people don't get that the JEK era is the reason why the show is on the very edge of a cliff at the moment. This new era has had to reverse all the damage that the JEK era brought to the show but it might be too late.

I guess at night. Mostly because I feel that a dark background fits better with eliminations, and just creates a better atmosphere for a battle to stay in the game. But that's IMO. That's really my only reason lol, I don't mind day eliminations though.

Night for sure.

I feel like maybe the reason the duels were during the day on The Duel 2 was  because of the time difference. New Zealand is the furthest time zone away from the US. They what like 20 hours ahead or something. I don't know if that makes sense. Either that or the fact that the duel was pretty much on the edge of a cliff and maybe it would be too dangerous for production and camera crews to be operating at night. Just spit balling here.

I'll take nights too. It just makes it more epic for some reason.

Same I loved Kellyanne trying to sacrifice herself to take Susie out for all her money & Darrell willingly going in twice. 

I don't understand how Timmy ended up facing Derrick in the final elimination on The Gauntlet 2 when Derrick stated that he wanted to go against David. It didn't make any sense because David was the weakest guy there and Derrick would've for sure kicked his ***. Dumb *** decision.

Best moment ever. David rid CT's coattails on The Inferno and expected to get a free ride. I'm glad he lost right before the finals because he did not deserve to be there. David sucks. I think he would've lost to Shane in the elimination round if CT did not step in for him. David even brought up Coral's argument with Mike to her by saying "I thought you were going to send Mike in." thinking she would change her mind lol he w***o afraid of eliminations.

My favorite is The Duel 2. The arena looked super bad ***. I also liked the Arena in Seasons 2. 

I have never find attractive nor appealing CT/Kenny/Zach. And I don't undestrant that hype about them.

Chet is a decent competitor and isn't as bad as some people make him out to be. I've always found his one-liners hilarious especially when he was making fun of how bad Devyn was doing in the Seasons 2 final mission. "We see Vegas in the distance. Can we catch up to them? (Looks behind) Hey Devyn, is that you? Probably not."

I do not think cast was weak. No CT&Bananas does not = weak cast. There was old school, rookies and awesome drama and hookups. Frank, Zach, Nany, Dustin, Sarah, CJ, Jonna, Marie, Alton, Camila, Wes, Cara Maria is good cast. Like would not you want to see Duel with those people?

No it has nothing to do with those too, there were so much weak competitors like all of New Orleans, half of Brooklyn , most of Austin, trashelle, Jasmine, Sam, big easy. How is that not considered weak?

There were more good competitors than bad ones on that season though.

It's a super weak cast, there weren't many good competitors there were the awful ones I listed then just okay not good competitors like Trey & Laura,Brandon, Derek and Chet. So together that's 18-32 so there aren't more.

That's still not a weak cast. Every season has weak competitors and okay ones then good ones.

Yeah every season has weak competitors and this one had more than most.... That makes it weak...

Weak: Devyn, McKenzie, Knight, Preston, Melinda, Big Easy, Lacey, Laura (i actually can't really remember her performance), Trishelle, Jasmine,

Average: Trey, Jemmye, Wes (although he got eliminated first), Brandon, Chet, Jonna, Nany, Derek, Robb, JD (terrible at missions especially the ones that are physical, but stepped up in the final mission and the final), Sam, Ashley, Danny,

Good: Zach, CJ, Alton, Dustin (on this season i'll categorize him as good. every other he would be average), Sarah, Camilla, Cara Maria, Frank, Marie,

that goes to show we have 10 people who are weak, 13 people who are average, and 9 strong characters.

now you may think nine good challengers is a strong cast but compare it to Rivals 2. Rivals 2 had 13 strong, good, athletic competitors (could be 14 but Cara Maria is debatable).  

so i understand your love for the Season and trust me BOTS2012 is my fourth favorite challenge. but there is no denying Seasons 2012 was a weaker cast than most.

But that just shows that there was more good to average competitors that season. They outweigh the weak ones so again..the cast wasn't weak. And I wouldn't put Ashley and Nany as average. Both were good imo.

on that season Nany was pretty average. and what challenge would say is weak since you believe Seasons 2012 was so strong. compare this season with any other from the 2010-2015 era and it's pretty weak.

I think everyone from RW St. Thomas ,except for Brandon, has potential to do very well on a challenge. They just need to be given a chance. ( And be picked in the right format)

Swift doesn't .

actually i think Swift has a better chance than LaToya. since LaToya sucks at swimming. Swift was decent at it. tbh i feel LaToya is very overated just because she had a good elimination.

What swimming challenges did Swift participate in on Free Agents?

They had to swim out to a certain point for a job on RW. Swift was up there with the rest of the cast. While Latoya was starting to "drown". In with Swift went back to "save" her.
