The Challenge: Unpopular Opinions

It's proof with Anastasia. CT played her yet she was the one who got all the hate by CT & Diem fans
Anastasia was awful tho.

in what sense was she awful?

She hung there on the first challenge and didn't do anything and she came in last on the second one and was dead weight to Jessica. Then she was so out of shape that she couldn't even hang there and cut a rope and went into a emotional panic break down.

I'm prob. Going to receive a lot of flack, but I don't really like any of the old seasons, theyre just not interesting to me. The only one that I kind of liked was inferno 2. But I love everything after Gauntlet 2

I will agree and disagree. In terms of drama, the older cast members just had something that newer cast members cannot provide. Many have tried but failed to fill the shoes of old cast members.

However, it terms of competition, the older challenges were pathetic. The elimination rounds on The Inferno were some of the stupidest ideas I have ever seen. So I will agree and say the newer challenges are better in terms of competition.

So here is my unpopular opinion, overall, my favorite era of the challenges were from Fresh Meat-Battle of the Exes.

Hmmm, interesting an actual unpopular opinion? How did you feel about JEK and their heavy dominance of those Seasons?

Not really IMO. The competition is weaker now than it was back in the older challenges mainly because it's repetitive and predictable as hell. The same politics, same game moves made by the same people and the same people making it to the end. and the same people winning. No surprises and no upsets. Exes 2 deviated from that and it went a long way in making that challenge good and the competition worth caring about for once. I hope this next season follows suit.

I think politics are more important now. Also back then, they always sent the rookies or weaker players first. Nowadays, a lot of weaker people slip by and are saved for the final/end.,

Back then it was somewhat predictable too with Road Rules always winning. Miz = today's Bananas with him usually making it to the end. Veronica always made it to the end. Darrell always made it to the end. Mark usually made it to the end. There's not much difference from back then to today outside of better challenges and eliminations today. There was and still is drama of people who hate eachother drama of the game and drunken drama. People just have a hard time letting go of the older challenges because that's when most people on here started watching. I started around Battle of the Sexes but I'll admit I love the Challenges way more than I did back then.

I think everyone from RW St. Thomas ,except for Brandon, has potential to do very well on a challenge. They just need to be given a chance. ( And be picked in the right format)

Swift doesn't .

actually i think Swift has a better chance than LaToya. since LaToya sucks at swimming. Swift was decent at it. tbh i feel LaToya is very overated just because she had a good elimination.

What swimming challenges did Swift participate in on Free Agents?

They had to swim out to a certain point for a job on RW. Swift was up there with the rest of the cast. While Latoya was starting to "drown". In with Swift went back to "save" her.

Well Veronica didn't always get to the end. She got the boot on Seasons 1 and Both Battle of the Sexes.

And while I do agree there are alot of similarities from then to now there are key differences that made those challenges good. For one the fan favorites of that time actually brought something to the show you knew why they were cast so much and they were much more likable. Now half of the regulars don't do shit are some of them serve no purpose on these shows. And the missions were much more diverse and didn't require you to be some athletic freak to do(same goes for eliminations) And the seasons as a whole back then were consistently good whereas now most seasons now are ****** or average. And they also were much diverse in terms of casting..they didn't just focus on the regulars, they cast people from the older seasons as well to coincide with the younger regulars and that resulted in diverse casts that were never the same from season to season...these days you'd be hard pressed to find someone whom appeared pre Sydney/Fresh Meat 2..and also every single cast member appeared on either The Real World or Road Rules. Not a single non-cast member in sight.

I personally think the challenges were better back then for the reasons I stated and I think that goes for alot of others that love the past seasons as well.

That isn't what I meant by competition nor is that the definition of competition. I would rather see challenges where you need some type of physical skill or ability like ones we see today. Sure some of them are repetitive, but they are pretty extreme and bad ***. Sorry but when I watch the show, I don't want to see which team can eat a bowl of ice cream faster, who can last in treading water in a pool the longest, teams washing windows, or teams acting as valets. I would rather see competitors fighting to stay in the game by competing in games like X Battle, Balls In, Hall Brawl, T-Bone, etc. Not elimination rounds where you eat cookies or peppers, who can last in a bath tub of gross shit longer, or who can stand on a block listening to lound noises.

So you basically just want to watch physical stuff all time? Okay. I feel differently. I don't mind the physical stuff but there needs to be more than that. I want some diversity. I want puzzles, games that require endurance, Strategy in addition to the physical. Not rockem sockem deathmatces all the time. And some fun games too also. I don't see the problem with those kind of simple eliminations you described. They were different, unique, and fun. Those should happen more often.

No "fun" eliminations suck, when they try to be out of the box we get stupid shit like snapper.

Tbh ^ Thats why I like elimination rounds like hog tie because it's a physical demanding game but no one has an advantage on the other person..

I wish production could set elimination rounds based on the competitors competing and not have rotations (free agents).

The best eliminations came from Rivals 1 imo most of them were stacked equally with the great exception of JJ vs Laurel & CM.

No not only physical stuff all the time, but those are the ones that I like the best. Elimination rounds like Looper, Water Torture, Balls Out, Unburied were all awesome to watch that weren't physical. If you want a competition of the idiotic ones like on The Inferno then go watch a kids show on nickelodeon or slime time live or some dumb shit like that.

Unburied was awesome. And I don't want a challenge that consists only of fun eliminations but I do think they should be included more than once every blue moon though.

And I think Swat was hilarious. They should do that again.

You would like swat. Let me guess Ican and hanging by a thread were great to.

The JEK era might not have been so bad if the EK part of it never made their way onto the show....I will say that era had the most/best balance within the challenges. I still think this current era is miles better despite there needing to be more of a balance, & i've stated my feelings on the Golden Era numerous times lol

The Inferno 2 was the start of the more physical eliminations...I prefer the physical eliminations myself but I also liked the ones like Deadman's Drop, Perfect Fit, Shack Attack,  Reverse Tug of War (although this is probably in the physical category), Ascender, etc.

I agree, nobody is saying that there should only be physical eliminations. They are the best but we should have others too.

I know most people greatly despise both of them, but I like Wes and Bananas. They're awesome TV. I think it's awesome that they're two of the FEW people who can actually grow a pair and make big moves to help them (and their alliance) advance. Not a fan of the people who act like they're all supposed to be friends. You're on the show to win, and at worst make it to the final so you walk away with at least some money.

I also don't get why they get a ton of crap for doing the smart thing, but when someone like Sarah, who wasn't smart enough to do this years earlier, finally does it, people act like she cured cancer. At least give Wes and Bananas credit for the YEARS they've made moves similar to the one Sarah made. I mean, just look back over the years when Wes and Bananas made big moves. The outcry was ridiuclous. You would've thought Wes murdered a bunch of puppies when he "betrayed Danny" on FM2 and didn't have his back.  You would've thought he was the Devil, literally. The same thing with Bananas on the Island. He had to look out for himself. And even if he lied to Evelyn, he still would've gotten killed because she was well-liked.

The girls I'll give you cause Coral, Veronica, Katie, Julie were great but todays isn't that bad. I also like that challenges and eliminations are more physically demanding. It shouldn't be easy to make it to the end and win the cash prize. They cast people from "older seasons" because back then those seasons weren't that old lol. The Non-castmember stuff is just pointless to argue with you about. These are just my opinions though and although I didn't hate challenges back then I think todays challenges are much better. ....No.

The quality of pretty much everything in the Golden Era challenges cannot be denied. The only thing they has against them is the cakewalk missions & eliminations, but even then Gauntlet 1, Inferno 2 & Gauntlet 2 had lot of physical missions/eliminations.

Put it like this: despite me seeing the older seasons thousands of times I would still go back & watch any of those over Gauntlet 3, or The Ruins (sans episodes 1-5) or both Rivals. Of course this is all my opinion.

I'm prob. Going to receive a lot of flack, but I don't really like any of the old seasons, theyre just not interesting to me. The only one that I kind of liked was inferno 2. But I love everything after Gauntlet 2

There was and still is drama of people who hate eachother drama of the game and drunken drama. People just have a hard time letting go of the older challenges because that's when most people on here started watching. I started around Battle of the Sexes but I'll admit I love the Challenges way more than I did back then.

The first bold is opinion though. I like Bananas, Wes, CT(now) more than Mark, Dan, Theo, Darrell etc. Those guys were boring in my opinion. Again I think people just enjoy older challenges because it's kind of nostalgic for them and how they first got started watching the show.

Well yeah..i'm the opposite. I'll take Dan/Theo/Darrell over Wes/Backpack/CT anyday and it's not just nostalgia. I feel like that latter three are just unlikable and while you could say the former three were boring..well I'll take boring over unlikable anyday(and Darrell did have his little moments but they were few and far between).  And the girls are nowhere near the level of women that did the challenges then IMO. For one they spoke up and didn't just let the men take over. I feel like alot of the women do that now. There's hardly anyone who will take control and fight for what they want.

And I personally think there should be a balance regarding the missions/eliminations/final..I don't think it should be easy to get to the end but it shouldn't be unecessarily hard either. These people are 20-something reality "stars" these are not trained army men or Navy Seals and they aren't professional athletes either. There's no reason for all the crossfit over the topness of some of these games(i'm mainly speaking of the finals but some of the missions and eliminations fall into this too)

I honestly don't think it's nostalgia...I think it's just the seasons back then were just better and more fun to watch than they are now. I just rewatched Battle of the Sexes 2 recently and I felt like it really highligted the fun they all had on the shows. There's none of that now excpet in the STSHS special after the season. There's no lightness and fun there anymore...it's all just seems so serious and grimm.

Agreed. They make great tv and know how to play the game. I love them both!

Well that's all anyone seems to care about and it seems.

And I liked Hanging by a Thread.

Well for me...Both Wes and Backpack are just plain unlikable to me. They play the game and do things that benefit them. Yes I'll give them that but I just wish I didn't hate watching them(Backpack moreso than Wes) and for me also it's the issue of them being on way to many challenges. I'm tired of them and at this point I wish they would just retire.

The latter 3 are better than the prior 3, with the exception of Darrell.

It's a reality competition show, if being in shape is relevant than do it to win that quick money.  Go change your tampon, Debut.

That's because unlike the lame *** crap that is
" fun" eliminations, they aren't just crap shoots.
But no that's not all, pretty much everyone loves knot so fast.

I will say I agree that the finals are ridiculous now; these untrained people scaling mountains is unecessary but its moreso the tremendous amount of money wasted...flying to an entirely different city, putting them in a new house & spreading the final out over 2 days but then supposedly they don't have enough money for promotion & the budget for the shows is tight.

That's one thing I will give the JEK era: Gauntlet 3 & The Duel 2 (not the whole waiting for a partner thing but the rest of it) should be the standard for finals imo

Hmmm, interesting an actual unpopular opinion? How did you feel about JEK and their heavy dominance of those Seasons?

I think it was a big mistake that mtv gave them so much power, Im not talking about the game bc regardless what people think  those three played the game, and it wasnt their fault that most of the cast followed them like lapdogs everywhere and did everything they wanted.

I do think mtv screwed it when they start putting them on show after show after show, and with the same friends over and over, mtv should have mix the cast instead of basically putting them with a bunch of their buddies, and they also took their time on introducing rookies they took just way too long. Mtv tried hard to make those three the face of the challenges, hence why they were over and over on the show.

I agree with the bolded. I hated that alot of challenges that time were basically "JEK and Friends!" And it also didn't seem that they were introducing the newer RW seasons the way they should have been(I think that Fresh Meat 2 had a hand in this too). And the rookies that got on didn't really make a dent there. It was all just dissapointing.

And on MTV making those three stars..I've said it before but they are dumb as hell for trying to make certain people the "stars" and "face" of this show that's supposed to have a different/rotating cast every season.
