Mark isn't bad at all. I do think for as long as he's been on these shows he shouldn't be playing a backseat role to anybody, but maybe that's just his nature. I think BMP wants to force him to stay retired bc like so many others, there is no real reason why he wasn't on Free Agents.
Mark is just a pro at that stuff. You can tell he's a dude who's just been on camera now for closing in on what? 25 years? He has some biases but he acknowledges most of them, and he still doesn't hate on the people he's not as close with (I remember when he hosted that Fresh Meat 2 aftershow with Kenny and Wes and he was pretty equally fair to both of them even though he's said that Kenny is one of his best friends).
I know people like to shit on him since he's "thirsty" to get back on but I think he just loves the shows and is invested in them. You can tell when he talks about them that he wants the shows to succeed. There's nothing wrong with wanting to continue to be part of something that you helped to build.
100% agreed with all of this. I love how Mark never bashes anyone on afterbuzz or anything he has hosted. Mark is a good dude. I know he really wants to be back on and people think it is annoying but it isn't like he is on every season....He has definitely had his time off. I would be okay with seeing Mark back.
If the show lasts beyond TJ's desire to host it and Mark isn't tapped as the next host BMP is out of their minds. Even as the host for the aftershows. Mark has straight up said I WANT TO HOST THE AFTERSHOW STILL. How do they see Mark and see Jonny Moseley and think Moseley is the better option?
And yeah, the Mark being around too much is bullshit too. Aside from BOTS2 and G2 which were only separated by one show he usually takes off like 4-5 seasons between shows. Half the people that are on now are 3 in a row, 4 in a row, 4/5, etc.
Mark's good and all and he played a huge part in this show. But I just don't see any real reason for him to return. He did nothing and brought nothing on Exes 1 and I don't see it being and different on any future show. He's just not needed now IMO.
Plus I think he would just be Backpack's ally and the last thing that Idiot needs is anymore allies.

I mostly just want him back as a host for aftershows and the reunion (definitely over Johnny Moseley)
I thought he was going to be one of the hosts on that one special with TJ & Camila based off one of his pictures, and I was bummed when he wasn't on.

But is anyone right now really NEEDED? There are maybe 5-7 real shit starters every season out of a cast of 25+ people. Why can't he be one of those other 18-20? What did Dustin, Leroy, Preston or Chet contribute to Free Agents that it couldn't have been Mark instead?
Thank thank GOD The Challenge is back. At this point, I don't watch The Real World anymore (I caught the last 10 minutes of Skeleton leading into The Challenge, and it reaffirmed my decision to stay the **** away from the show), so the two Challenges we get every year (barely) is the only MTV I watch. Let's start things off though.
Definitely one of the things I liked about the Free Agents introduction was the throwback to the older Challenges by filming them getting off the plane and onto the bus. But I suppose that would've ruined the "twist", which was the introducing of the Are You The One? cast. Looking at The Challenge, it's weird to see people like Zach, Dustin, Jemmye, Nany, Leroy become full-fledged veterans in the game. But perhaps that's because the veterans from 7-8 years ago are still lingering throughout the game and aren't being phased out of the series, at all.
Just from the pairing-up of the teams, you can feel that this is going to be a big season. Many complained that a lot of people were missing as the cast was revealed, but Battle of the Exes could potentially be The Challenge's most enticing format thus far, bringing the drama, political, and physical aspects of the game together.
Initial thoughts?
Zach & Jonna: Zach's jokes and lack of tension about this entire thing makes me think they're kind of trying to milk something out of the way the relationship ended.
Jordan & Sarah: No shortage of confidence in this team. Glad Sarah's back. Glad she hit the jackpot with a decent partner. They couldn't have shipped Alton 2.0?
Bananas & Nany: I wonder how many times this season Bananas is going to have to reel her back. This was the big reveal that they hooked-up off camera. Fun fact: This is the second Ex Bananas has had that was an off-camera hook-up.
Wes & Theresa: I'm tired of Theresa trying to convince me that her and Wes don't get along. I don't think it's that deep.
Johnny & Averey: Fresh-wound off a break-up, messy situation, no resolution. Sounds like we've got ourselves a LEGIT reason to watch this show.
Leroy & Nia: Did Leroy get some new teeth? About time those Challenge checks mounted up.
Adam & Brittany: Why's he wearing a button up shirt like this is The Bachelor or something? I like how Brittany looks.
Dustin & Jessica: Solid team, not great. Solid. Is there real tension? Not as much as other couples. Dustin just kind of curved Jessica after The Challenge and she was a bit salty, but got over it.
Jay & Jenna: Team Personality over here.
Knight & Jemmye: Other than Free Agents, it's like these two can't get away from one another. It's sad that Knight's no longer with us, but they've managed to keep all his jerky mannerisms into the show. Thanks MTV.
Hailey & Thomas: I didn't watch this season. But hopefully they stand out somehow, because I can't see them getting casted past this season.
John & Simone:"Yay! Interracial couples", might be the greatest quote of this show. John, Johnny, and Johnny Bananas all on the same show. Please, no more Johns.
CT & Diem: "Cue the montage in the pool." Wes says off-camera. And we all smile a bit on the inside, and out.
Dustin tries to become one of the guys, as if to join some The Challenge Frat...in some sort of Pad
Poor Dustin. For the last couple of seasons, he's been none other than the charming southern gentleman with the secret, cool handshakes with Nany. But he hasn't really clicked with any of the guys in the game (ironically, Nany has clicked with multiple guys ie: "I have options"), well this season's his chance too no matter what and he's bunking with the guys! I don't think anyone necessarily has a problem with Dustin in the game, but he doesn't share the same type of musclehead camaraderie as the other guys in the game. He's the nice guy who's nice to chicks, and all these other guys are exes because they've screwed over the girl royally and unapologetically.
Are CT & Diem dating?
They're playing awfully coy. I don't know if it's because they're veterans, they knew they would be together, and they've just accepted it -- but the same vibe that was there from The Duel is back. Last season she was on (Rivals 2), there was a lot of animosity with a lot of girls in the house and she was painted as the jealous ex-girlfriend. This time, she's more at peace and actually working along well with CT. You can see with the calm, playful attitude that CT really loves and respects her at this point.
The 'Death by Slow Motion' Challenge
This Challenge looked...frightening. But I think that it set a great tone for Battle of the Exes 2 with a challenge based on communication and trust. Something that most of these teams "don't have". But by far the coolest part of The Challenges were the falls. Instead of an anti-climatic fall, it was all in slow motion with dubstep drops. Very cool. Very surprised at how Averey and the grown-up Bobby Hill did in The Challenge off the bat. They had great positioning and their angst for one another apparently lit a fire under them. Knight and Jemmye did horrible, which makes me think that Knight might be in the running for one of the worst competitors in the daily Challenges ever. Never met someone with as much lack of discipline to complete a game in my life.
Winners: Wes & Theresa / Losers: Adam & Brittany
Fun Fact: It's been 11 years since Julie tried to kill Veronica in a ziplining competition from building to building. This is literally what this Challenge reminded me off.
Wes & Theresa -- The Most Diabolical Power Couple Ever
It's been nine years since Fresh Meat, The Challenge where Wes debuted and tried to assemble the Austin cast of rookies to sway the votes in the game. It failed, horribly. All his fellow alliance teams sucked, and were going up against seasoned veterans.
On Fresh Meat II, he assembled a cast of rookies to back him in the game, this time somewhat successfully (he managed to get Darrell, Sarah, and Paula out of the game). And then.... he lost, why? Because his fellow alliance teams (including his) sucked. Battle of the Seasons, he made an attempt to push an alliance with the veterans in the game. But after realizing that his own season sucked HARD, he bailed out of the game in the first round with a loss to Big Easy. Battle of the Exes, off the bat he made an attempt to get the rookies of the game on his side, but by that time he'd been doing it so many years that all the rookies watched him be a **** on TV and no one bothered to even care.
In a game filled with so many rookies, Wes decides to try something new....wait, no he doesn't, he makes an attempt to reel in the rookies AGAIN. But finally, he has the leverage of winning to be able to pull it off for once. Wes promises not to send Jay & Thomas in, so he has the numbers on his side. As if this were some sort of numbers game or something (I guess if you want control of the order of the game). I think the prodding of Bananas was more of a mental tactic in the game, so he isn't too comfortable in this game.
People are giving Theresa a lot of **** for letting Wes takes the reigns on things, probably because it's bad for chicks and she's too much of a veteran to still be a subordinate in Challenges. However, I think she realized after how she came off on Free Agents, she doesn't want to be the bad guy this time around. Until she has to be. With that said, I completely see why he threw Dustin and Jess in. It sets the tone for the game that anyone can go in, but at the same time you don't really lose a team with any influence in the game. You basically don't lose anything sending them in and sending them home.
The Elimination
This is already way better than the dumb helicopter game from the first Exes and the stupid hang-upside-down-with-tiny-saws-and-cutting-ropes from Rivals 2. A lot of strength, communication, moving in unison in this elimination and if one thing goes wrong -- it could all go wrong. It could be anybody's game, and I like that sort of unpredictability in my Challenges.
You could see flashes of brilliance from Adam & Brittany in this game, especially Adam who has that competitive edge in the game. With Dustin & Jessica falls and he's literally intensely screaming, "slow & steady... SLOW & STEADDYY!!!! LET'S F***** GO!". The "I love you" thing was kind of weird though. Rookies typically don't make it out of eliminations off the bat. I'm not mad at these new rookies they're picking that can hang.
Dustin's definitely not taking this whole losing thing lightly. You would've thought he was trapped on an island for six weeks and was screwed out of $75,000 at the last minute for how long we see him in the fetal position. Luckily we get live via-satellite, green screen TJ to fill us in on the twist of the game. What a cliffhanger to go off on, especially at the top of the season. What do I think of the twist? I like it. I think this is a twist that fans have fantasy booked for a long time, and finally it's being worked into things. It's a welcomed change to the format and I hope they push twists like this in the future. I'd love of they did the hired-assassins thing from Cut Throat again, bring back all-star competitors to face off against losers in the eliminations. It opens up a lot of different ideas.
Overall thoughts? This season has a lot of promise. The first episode was very by-the-books, and I think I'm growing tired with the formatting of the show. If you pay attention enough, you'll realize that all the episodes are kind of formatted the same. It's probably like that for a reason, but it's time to switch it up -- just a little bit.
Mark's good and all and he played a huge part in this show. But I just don't see any real reason for him to return. He did nothing and brought nothing on Exes 1 and I don't see it being and different on any future show. He's just not needed now IMO.

Well aparently CT/Backpack and the new Veterans such as Leroy/Jonna/Zach etc are needed because they keep getting asked back and he doesn't. He's just not going to bring anything more than anyone on the challenge right now. Why bring him on? Just to be wallpaper? Pointless. I think he should just stick to hosting aftershows. He shines better there IMO.
You would’ve thought he was trapped on an island for six weeks and was screwed out of $75,000 at the last minute for how long we see him in the fetal position.

I love Paula and really felt bad for her on the Island but her crying in the treasure chest was kind of hilarious...

I didn't feel bad for her at all. She got exactly what she deserved and I was hoping that someone would've closed that treasure chest on her and threw it out to sea.

Watched the first episode last night, I love how Wes refers johnny as "The banana man", IDK why the episode was pretty much based around Dustin and Jess, I would have loved to have seen the rekindled rivalry between bananas and Jordan, but they didn't show anything about that, I almost forgot that they don't like each other. Based off his are you the one season, I was expecting Adam to be a cocky ******** to everyone but he's been humble so far, so I like that team, good episode and can't wait till next weeks'

A list of podcasts/reveiws off the top of my head/searching on itunes:
Afterbuzz, Grantland, Rob Has A Podcast with Brian and Allie, Bus Drivers Route, Andrew Kirk, Ace's Recap, AfterRealityTV, TakingRealityRadio(?)
There's a lot out there basically.

Actually Jess has lost 3 eliminations
Thank you. Thank you very much for this.
