The Real World & The Challenge: Top 5 Seasons

Hmm, I've never actually come up with my personal top 5 favorite challenge seasons. I enjoyed watching all of them for both similar and different reasons, but here goes: 1. Cutthroat -- This was the first season I watched, so I might be a bit biased. However, to this day I really like the format of this challenge. Having three teams with a private voting system was unique and "cutthroat." This season featured my favorite missions like Riot Act and Bottleneck Stampede. Most of the eliminations were good too, and who can forget Bananas vs. CT? Also had some decent and funny drama. The final was pretty meh, but overall a very great season. 2. Inferno 2 -- My favorite season in terms of the cast. Had some great entertaining moments like Tonya throwing Beth's clothes in the pool and everyone taking pictures, and introduced the 'mean girls' of the challenge. I also liked the whole Good Guys vs. ******** theme it had. 3. The Duel -- I actually just finished rewatching this for a third time. For a cast of 20, this season featured some great competition. The missions looked like fun, and the eliminations were both physical and strategic. Some great moments like Derrick vs. Wes, and the whole CT/Diem storyline. (I got tired of it in Rivals 2, but it's still great to watch in its prime) 4. Inferno 1 -- The first season of the amazing Inferno trilogy. Had some fun moments like Julie/Veronica, Julie/Coral, and Katie/Veronica. The competition was fun, silly, and enjoyable. I also loved the cast. 5. Free Agents -- A very competitive-driven season that had a whole lot of suspense to it. The missions were awesome, and the eliminations were great. The draw, while it had its ups and downs, set up some great match ups that we probably wouldn't have ever seen. I also really liked how the politics changed every mission, and was a breath of fresh air from the whole alliance game. (mostly) Honorable Mentions: Rivals 1, BOTSexes, Gauntlet 1, Gauntlet 2 This was tough to come up with, and while I want to say I enjoy the show for each and every aspect it has to offer (storyline, drama, competition, suspense, etc.), it seems like I enjoy the competitive aspect the most. Maybe it's because I'm a guy who grew up playing sports, who knows. There's my list! Not sure what to put for RW since I've only watched like 7 or 8 seasons.

Real World 1. Las Vegas 2- I really enjoyed this season, from Mike and Leroy's friendship to the drama between Adam and Nany and its hard to forget one of the most shocking moments in real world History, Dustin and frat pad! 2. Las Vegas- Pretty amazing Cast, I enjoyed the drama, partying, and hooking up with this cast and I loved every single person on the show, even Frank 3. Austin- From the love affair between Melinda and Danny to Wes an Nehemiah's attempts at finding girls I really liked this season, plus the heavy feeling that was felt when Danny's Mother passed away there was a reason that atleast one cast member was on every single season on the challenge up until free agents. Haven't watched enough real world to do a top 5 as I have seen about 10 seasons and some only part way. Challenge 1. The Inferno 2- I have seen this season about 10 times all the way through! It was a stacked male cast, with the likes of Landon, Miz, Brad, Darell, CT, Derrick, Abe, who combine for 24 final appearances and 15 wins! Plus the mean girls came out to play and the drama that occurred with the voting, and the fun challenges, the early domination by the Bad ***** and the Comeback by the Good Guys it was an amazing season! 2. The Duel- I loved this season for the competition and the amount of fun the challengers had. From the romance of CT and Diem to the rookie perseverance of Svet, this challenge was awesome. I just wish CT would have made the final because he was the best guy there IMO 3. Rivals- Great cast and THE RETURN OF CTIZZLE! I absolutely loved that the entire house was against CT including his partner but by the end he was able to turn the likes of Laurel and Adam into thinking that he was a good guy, plus its always great to relive the Kenny and Wes Rivalry, as well as watch them fail miserably at Day challenges and have to face multiple eliminations. Great cast and great season, plus Paula got her first win 4. Exes- Great old school cast I really enjoyed the dynamics of the couples and I got to see CT and Diem together again. It was a pretty great challenge and the final challenge was EPIC! 5. Gauntlet 2- It would be higher but that final challenge was terrible. Pretty amazing cast, I didn't like all the girls that kept quitting at the start, but Kina and Alton were awesome Captains, and Derricks perseverance and effort were amazing to watch all season!

The Challenge: 1). The Ruins - Best cast in my opinion in terms of old school and new school combined. This challenge had some of the best drama and strategic game play in my opinion. Wes vs. JEK, Tonya vs. Veronica, Katie vs. Sarah, Wes vs. Darrell, Brad vs. Darrell, Susie vs. Champion Boys, Katie vs. JEK. Just everything! The Ibis/Veronica deliberation is also hands down one of the best moments of the season. KellyAnne and Sarah almost winning also makes it great. 2). The Inferno This birthed my favorite female challenger of all time; Katie Doyle. Her vs. her team the entire season culminating in the most epic fight of all time (Katie vs. Veronica) was gold. Julie vs. Coral, Trishelle vs. Coral were awesome as well. The challenge was strategic but still fun which I loved. 3). Cutthroat The 3 team concept in my opinion was great. I loved the secret ballot. This was a real mix of old school and new school as well, and made for very interesting dynamics. 4). The Gauntlet 3 5). Rivals (*Close Calls - Battle of the Exes, Battle of the Seasons, Extreme Challenge) The Real World: 1). Las Vegas 2). New Orleans 3). Key West 4). Denver 5). X-Plosion (*Close Calls - Portland, San Diego 2.0, Sydney)

Challenges: 1-The Duel 2-Inferno 1 3-Ruins 4-Cutthroat 5-Battle of the Sexes Haven't watched enough RW, but Vegas 2 and Brooklyn would be my favorites.

1.The Duel I loved the cast. I loved the CT & Diem romance, we got to see a different side of CT. Seeing Svet make it to the end was amazing. Having Wes win it all when he wasn't in the big alliance was shocking and awesome to watch. Also my favorite elimination of all time was Wes VS Derrick. I could rewatch this season over and over again. 2.Rivals I loved the theme and the pairings because a lot of the cast had real rivialries. It was the return of CT and also all of JEK was on it. It was the hardest final ever. We got to see Leroy and Mike Mike make it to the end. Paula won her first challenge. 3.Fresh Meat We got to see a whole bunch of new people. The first time seeing Kenny and Evan. Evan and Coral dominating then getting sent home for both being injured. Wes having everyone against him and still making it to the end. Diem opens up about her Cancer for the first time. The 2 worst teams make it to the end and outsmarted all the vets. 4.Gaunlet 2 Really fun cast. The final sucked but I enjoyed the missions. This is when I became to love Derrick. He showed so much heart and it was heartbreaking when he got sent home. Kina VS Cara was amazing. Aneesa going off on Cara was even better. Kina and Alton beasted as captains. It was also the last time we saw a ton of old school people together on a challenge. 5. Inferno 2 I liked the whole Bad *** Vs Good Guy theme.It had Brad's Wedgie, Tonya throwing Beth's clothes in the pool, everyone getting pissed at Jodi for changing her vote. Also it had some of the strongest males on both teams. Real World 1.Austin It was the first season I watched and I loved the cast dynamic. Danny went through a lot at the very beginning from having surgery to his mom dying on valentines day to falling in love with Melinda. Also I loved how sneaky Lacey was. She would always start drama. I enjoyed watching the Johanna and Wes relationship, it was funny. The groupie draw, 2 people got arrested on that season. Great Season! 2. Las Vegas 2 Probably my favorite cast ever. I loved everyone on the cast even Adam. It had Adam's drama, Nany finding out her dad died, Dustin's frat pad revealed, Leroy's friend passing away, Mike Mike Vs Dustin, Cooke Vs the girls. 3.Denver The whole season was a drunken mess with Jenn and I loved it. Brooke's meltdowns were TV gold. I enjoyed watching the whole Alex, Jenn, Colie love triangle. I loved their job and the drama it brought because the cast didn't like it. 4.Key West Watching Paula deal with anorexia on national tv was very real. It was cool to see her overcome it. My favorite real worlder came out of this season Johnny Bananas :) I also enjoyed watching the Tyler/Janelle Vs Svet. Svetlana was great tv. 5. NOlA 2 Jemmye is the main reason I love this season. I thought she was hilarious on it and I loved her and Knight's relationship. Preston VS Ryan was hilarious to watch. Some of the things Ryan Leslie did that season were hysterical like pretending his shoulder was hurt and calling the police on Preston.

First comment ever! Woohoo! Been following the site for a while now and this thread compelled me to register! For the Challenge: 1. Battle of the Seasons (the original) - The challenges were simple, yet whacky. The cast was enjoyable. I loved the format and the drama that unfolded inside and outside of the inner circles. Sidekick Showdown is still my favorite mission and episode in the history of the show! 2. Battle of the Sexes (1 AND 2) - Lots of great competition, good drama (mainly with the ladies). 3. The Duel 2 - This one is very underrated to me. It was better than the first Duel and was stacked. Although... The front runner to win for the men (CT) was sent home earlier on, Landon got screwed over rather royally and Ruthie (one of my all time faves) went home early. The finale was intense. 4. Battle of the Exes - I loved the theme. The missions weren't so serious, as we have seen in recent challenges. It was fun to watch, although I was crushed when Abe/Cara and Mark/Robin lost their respective dome rounds. 5. The Gauntlet (original) - Loved the cast. I would love to see some of these people return... Though I'm sure it would never happen! Nathan, Rachel B, Irulan, Roni, Dave (so what he's an actor! Lol) and Sarah!! I'd also love to see Jamie and Mike make surprise returns. But I'm sure the chances of that happening are slim.. For the Real World: 1. New Orleans (original) 2. Back to New York 3. St. Thomas (Robb and Marie!!) 4. Hollywood 5. New Orleans 2 (even if I did despise Ryan) Honorable mention: Both Las Vegas seasons.

I'm in the process of watching the old challenges, so I'm just going to do my three favorites, since I haven't seen quite a few of the originals. 1.) Rivals! I've seen this season like 3 times lol. It was the first season I ever watched, and it grabbed me right away. It was so fun watching not knowing what to expect, or what this show really was. I remember *screaming* during the CT/Adam vs. Johnny/Tyler elimination. Episode 6 of this season was iNCREDIBLE with the thrown challenge and Mandi meltdown. Plus the evolution of Cara Maria and Laurel's relationship was actually touching and showed real growth. And the Grantland articles about this season were hilarious, sometimes I still think of Laurel as "the William Wordsworth of insults." 2.) The Duel: I just finished this season. I liked that Svetlana made it so far, and I actually felt really bad for Wes when he was crying to Johanna about being stressed at the Duel. I thought it was really cool that both Wes and Svet would have been out by the fourth episode if the other cast members had their way but they made it to the end. 3.) Free Agents: This season had low ratings, but I thought the format was really cool. I liked the Bananas/Jordan rivalry and Laurel's first win!! Oh wait, I forgot the Duel 2, that would definitely be #4. This cast really seemed like they liked each other, and I liked watching them have costume parties etc. Plus the first episode with the iconic fight between CT and Adam in their onesies lol.

I forgot Challenge 2000 on my honorable mentions list.

1. The Duel 2. Inferno 2 3. Gauntlet 2? (whichever Gauntlet it was where Derek was wrecking everyone in beach brawl) 4. Rivals 5. Cutthroat

5. Battle of the Sexes 1 - This season was special to me since it was the 1st to try something different from RW vs RR. The cast was very solid as well with plenty of icons from the earlier RW/RR seasons. I also loved how they had the scoreboard to put in perspective who performed well in the missions and deserved to stay and who didn't. This season also had the unforgettable Puck vs David spitting incident. 4. The Gauntlet 2 - Very solid season overall that marked the end of the pre-JEK era. This was the last challenge we would see in a long time that wasn't dominated by one of them. It was a fresh and diverse cast overall which was nice to see. I know a lot of people didn't like the final, but I didn't mind seeing them try something different. 3. The Inferno 1 - Special season that stands out as being the end of the golden RW vs RR era as well as CT's debut. There were plenty of worthy storylines going on this season as well (Miz/Trishelle break up, Darrell & Leah, Miz & Kendal, Veronica vs Katie, Coral vs Julie, etc.) The Inferno also featured one of the best classes of one and done challengers with the likes of Mallory, Christena, and Kendal. 2. The Gauntlet - One of the best challenge seasons overall IMO. It had a solid cast from top to bottom and featured a lot of entertaining missions. It was something to see Sarah from Campus Crawl transform herself from perennial weak link on her original season to elimination queen that couldn't be beat no matter how hard her team tried to get rid of here. This season also give us other infamous moments with the threesome as well as Coral going down in the final. 1. Battle of the Exes - I really liked this season because I feel like it had something to offer everyone. It was one of the most balanced casts in recent years with new kids like Dustin debuting while bringing back legendary fan favorites like Mark and Rachel. There was plenty going on this season to keep an eye on with Camila's drunken freak out, Johnny vs Rachel, Vinny & Sarah getting kicked off, and the blackface incident that almost drove Ty to quit. I also liked a lot of the missions we saw as well.

Challenge seasons: 1. Inferno 2: everything about this seasons was great, the best cast of any season. Tonya throwing Beth's clothes to the pool still remains one of the best moments of the franchise. The bad ***** getting mad at Jodi for changing her vote, Brad's wedgie, the trainwreck of a team that was the bad *****, the beautiful Jamie Chung winning her only challenge, and so on. The Abram/Brad and Tonya/Shavonda remains one of my favorites. 2. Inferno: Julie trying to murder Veronica, the debut of CT, Coral vs. Julie, Coral vs. Trishelle, one hit wonders Kendall, Mallory and Christena, and last but not least, the Veronica vs. Katie rivalry. I loved how the Road Rules team tried time after time to get Katie off and she ended making the final and helping them win. 3. The Duel: the cast was absolutely amazing. It was good seeing Bananas, Kenny and Paula get eliminated early in the game. This marked the end of people like Kina, Svetlana and Jodi. Wes and Jodi winning at the end was a great conclusion to this season. 4. Cutthroat: I absolutely loved the three team format with the secret voting. The cast was full of newbies (which is a great thing). Brad/Tori vs. Camila, Sarah vs. Shauvon, Laurel vs. Cara Maria/Abram, Laurel vs. Big Easy, and so on. Bottleneck Stampede remains my favorite mission ever. Plus, who can forget about CT vs. Backpack. 5. Gauntlet 2: the last truly old school challenge. Even though some of the big names like Coral, Veronica, The Miz weren't there, the cast was still awesome. The rookies team was great and I loved how the whole challenge was pretty even between teams. The epic meltdown of Jo, Kina vs. Cara, Aneesa vs. Cara. It was devastatinh seeing Derrick and Ruthie lose, but it was great seeing Alton and Kina dominating. Honorable mentions: Battle of the Sexes, Battle of the Seasons (2002, 2012), Free Agents Real World seasons: (those I have watched) 1. Hollywood: watching Joey go through everything was really touching, but also a little scary. Greg was absolutely hilarious, it was awesome seeing him troll his housemates. Watching Sarah and Kim being so ignorant was kind of compelling, as it was Kim vs. Brianna. I loved how the assignment consisted of improv comedy. 2. Miami: my favorite old school season, literally everyone fought with everyone. Dan vs. Melissa was great to watch, just because she opened one of his letters. Flora was such a complex character and she always spoke her mind, and that's what made her great. TRW's first threesome (Mike/Melissa/local girl), Flora vs. Sarah. 3. Portland: very underrated season. I started hating Jordan and ended up loving him at the end (sadly that was ruined on Free Agents), Marlon confronting the housemates abouy his bisexuality, Nia hitting Jordan with a clock and finally, the biggest fight of the franchise, Johnny/Averey vs. Nia. 4. Las Vegas 2: the cast isn't my favorite, but this season produced some of my favorite moments. Dustin revealing his past, Dustin vs. Mike Mike and Cooke vs. Heather. Sad to say this, but Adam was actually my favorite cast mate that season, with Nany a close second. 5. Sydney: mainly for Cohutta and Kellyanne. Issac was hysterical, and even though Dunbar was kind of annoying, you couldn't help but laugh. Trisha vs. Parisa had serious issues, Ashli and Kellyanne making Parisa's life hell after she voted off Trisha, Dunbar vs. Kellyanne/Parisa/Ashli, Cohutta vs. Shauvon, Isaac vs. Shauvon. Even though Noirin wasn't a part of the cast, she was great to watch. Honorable mentions: Boston, New Orleans 2, Ex-Plosion

Derrik's run as captain and his epic loss at the very end (I love him but the loss I think was better for the show because he battled so hard and came so close). Alton dominating the net climbing elimination. My favorite mission on a challenge ever where they had to get out of that pit with water noodles duck tape and yoga balls. Real World: 5. D.C. - Loved the cast and that they all actually went out and accomplished things (Mike with his campaigning, Andrew with his art, Cali with her pictures, etc.). Real issues were tackled and I feel this was definitely one of the better seasons of the past 10 or so. 4. Las Vegas 1 - Lots of hooking up and partying. The only appearance we got of the wonderful Brynn (who sadly got the least amount of camera time). I loved Alton and Irulan. Too cute together <3. 3. Hollywood - Joey's epic drunken rage fits. Will getting with Janelle. I LOVED the house. Dave getting drunk with Ace and the other challenge guys. 2. Las Vegas 2- Adam's drama and breaking stuff. Leroy and Mike Mike's friendship. When Adam bet it all on roulette and won. Mike Mike's beef with Dustin. Nany finding out about her dad. 1. Sydney - Kelly Anne and Cohutta are my favorite RW couple of all time. Issac swimming naked in the fish tank. Parisa sending home the insufferable Trisha. Issac's relationship with Noirin. Okay here's mine Top 5 Challenges 5.The Gauntlet 2-The cast for this challenge is a bit unusual in some spots but it ended up paying off as this cast delivered. Beth, Jo, Kina, Susie, Derrick, Brad, Mark, all brought something to the table. The missions and Elimations were awesome. Derrick vs Adam in name that coconut is one of the best elimination rounds in the history of this show. The Drama was top notch and The Rookies Winning it all was the cherry on top for me personally. This was also the last true Real World/Road Rules Challenge. The end of the Golden era of this show. It was one hell of a way to go out. 4.The Inferno 2-This challenge had some of the Best Drama. Tonya throwing Beth's clothes in the pool and then being tortured by the mean girls, The Train wreck Bad *** team, Darrell/Abram's spat, Brad's Wedgie etc. It also had classic elimination rounds like Brad/Abram-Balls in Robin/Tina-Shack Attack, Tonya vs Julie-Patchwork. And this challenge had a Rare strategic moment when the good guys made the decision who the throw in based on who the other team picked. Very Good Season. 3-The Duel-This challenge had a good format:Every man/women for themselves on their own. It was Fresh and new at the time. I hate Wes but this was the only time he was good. Him outsmarting Evan was great Svetlana/Kina-Duel was a great Duel too. 2. Extreme Challenge-Was the first Challenge I saw. Syrus vs James was awesome and Julie being so Pissed that Ayanna was gone. Susie coming in and sucking was awesome. Real World FINALLY winning was amazing. 1. Battle of the Seasons-This is the Ultimate Challenge. This season was everything the challenges are supposed to be about. Drama, Competition, Fun missions, Fun times, EVERYTHING. I loved the format. 2 people representing a season of Real World or Road Rules was a good Idea. This challenge had so many good moments and missions. Mike going Crazy on himself, Chadwick/Holly's Mess, Belou and her Kid, Coral vs Stephen, Inner Tube Tango, Kelly climbing up that rope like it's nothing. Sidekick showdown,..This was a love letter to this Franchise in so many way and this challenge will always be Number 1 as far as I'm concerned. Honorable Mentions: Battle of the Sexes, Battle of the Seasons 2, The Gauntlet 1, The Inferno 1. Cutthroat.

Challenges: 1.) Battle of the Exes Great concept, great cast. It featured a lot of old stories and new faces as well. The finale was probably the most epic in the show's history. 2.) The Duel This had an overall great cast, and at the time the concept was super different than all of the other shows. The drama was on point for each and every single duel, and you genuinely cared who won and lost. Still get mad to this day about the Wes/CT flag pulling debate. 3.) Battle of the Sexes This was the first challenge that really sucked me in, and I remember watching it when it aired. San Francisco This is probably the most legendary seasons of all The Real Worlds, and for good reason. The city of San Francisco is great backdrop for the cast, who you genuinely grow to love. Even Puck...sorta. It's interesting to watch the show now and see these twenty somethings in the 90s who you now know they are in well in their 40s. The effect Pedro had on AIDs awareness and gay rights is real and this show had everything to do with that. 2.) D.C. An overall likeable cast. An overall SMART cast. For once, you get a season in recent years that's not entirely focused on drinking and partying. So refreshing to see. 3.) New Orleans 1 I remember watching this when it aired, and I can't tell you exactly all that happened but I do remember an awesome cast. 4.) Los Angeles Oh this one is just plain entertaining. Out of all the Real World casts, these people couldn't be anymore different from one another. You can tell that MTV was still trying to figure out what this show was, which prompted experimental things like throwing Tami, Jon, and Damien in an RV cross country to LA for 2 episodes. 5.) Las Vegas 2 I feel like I'm one of the few who doesn't like the original Las Vegas season. So I was surprised at how much I liked the newer one. The episodes overall were entertaining back to back, and there were plenty of storylines throughout the season.

Derrik's run as captain and his epic loss at the very end (I love him but the loss I think was better for the show because he battled so hard and came so close). Alton dominating the net climbing elimination. My favorite mission on a challenge ever where they had to get out of that pit with water noodles duck tape and yoga balls. Real World: 5. D.C. - Loved the cast and that they all actually went out and accomplished things (Mike with his campaigning, Andrew with his art, Cali with her pictures, etc.). Real issues were tackled and I feel this was definitely one of the better seasons of the past 10 or so. 4. Las Vegas 1 - Lots of hooking up and partying. The only appearance we got of the wonderful Brynn (who sadly got the least amount of camera time). I loved Alton and Irulan. Too cute together <3. 3. Hollywood - Joey's epic drunken rage fits. When Adam bet it all on roulette and won. Mike Mike's beef with Dustin. Nany finding out about her dad. 1. Sydney - Kelly Anne and Cohutta are my favorite RW couple of all time. Issac swimming naked in the fish tank. Parisa sending home the insufferable Trisha. Issac's relationship with Noirin.
