Woah Duck Dynasty is definately going to make the Challenge viewership go down. Here's a little thought the last episode of Duck Dynasty to air pulled in 9.6 million viewers.

I'm just curious why MTV keeps holding on to this show? And I say this as a fan. They cancel Jersey Shore but continue to keep shows that have low rating (and I don't care about JS). Is it because its their flagship show? just don't get their logic. Most people my age don't even know that the real world/ challenge is still on. My best friend just said to me the other day, I stopped watching after that season in florida with the hurricane. Key West was like what in 2005? I was a junior in high school. I do like this season, I really do but I don't get their logic. The hills, laguna beach, the original teen moms, allare no longer on MTV but one the lowest rated shows on the network still is.

The Real World was their flagship show and there's a lot of ways they can keep reinventing this show even though it doesn't produce mass ratings.
I only really watch the Challenges and maybe RW if it's a good season and honestly I wouldn't mind at all if this show kept on running for many more years to come. It's a nice change from all this Teen Mom and Ridiculousness BS that's constantly shown on MTV.

The challenge will be with us for at least another season.

The Real World and MTV have become like synonymous with each other. Real World is like MTV's baby so I think that's why they've always been so hesitant to get rid of it, especially since it's such a huge fixture in pop culture. I think kind of the same with The Challenge but I think MTV would get rid of the Challenges before they would RW if it came down to it.
Jersey Shore, The Hills, Teen Mom etc..Are shows with the same cast every season, there are only so many conflicts that can happen within the same small groups of people before everything has been explored
The Real World has rotating casts, it's constantly a new dynamic with new people in new locations, not the same people year after year. The Challenges go further with different people and when the same come back they're fan favorites and regardless there is a new social dynamic. Plus there's new games, challenges, teams etc..It's always something new kind of like Survivor (or even the Bachelor) which is also coming up on 30 seasons. Shows with changing games or changing social dynamics are pretty much limitless so here's hoping they do NOT get cancelled

Ratings are only 1 factor as to whether or not a show gets renewed. You need to factor in the cost of a show for renewal and cancellation. If a show becomes a big hit like The Hills, Laguna Beach, or Jersey Shore, the cast will demand a new contract and the cost of the show will skyrocket. When costs are high, ratings need to be higher. Jersey Shore was probably losing a ton of money for MTV during their last season because the cast salaries were so high while the ratings plummeted.

I read a synopsis for the show, it's just a somewhat dysfunctional/eccentric southern family that became wealthy from their business of selling duck callers. Honestly seems like the new Little People Big World or John and Kate Plus 8.

Either way, Duck Dynasty's total viewership was over ten times the adult viewership for the latest Rivals 2 episode.
But here's a strange little note.
Duck Dynasty (10:00, 60 Minutes) - A&E
11.773 million viewers, #1; 6.332 million adults 18-49 (5.0 rating), #1
This implies that 5.4 million Duck Dynasty viewers were either younger than 18 or older than 49. While by comparison, only 300,000 of Rivals 2's viewers fits into that category. That's about 46% for Duck Dynasty viewers outside of the 18-49 demo while that's 23% outside of that demo for Rivals 2 viewers.

That is exactly why I posted the FC report.
The prior week's episode rating in 18-34 didn't make MediaLifeMagazine.com' top ten weekly cable shows. We used to note here at vevmo those weekly numbers, but it's been a very long time since I've seen one of those great ratings weeks for either RW or a challenge.
