The Challenge: Rivals II - Ratings Discussion
Really, you wan't to compare these season's ratings to the those from over a decade ago?.... With your experience in the industry, I don't think I need to explain the absurdity of this...
You will definitely have to explain your thinking--so that I can rip it apart with lots of very easily digested numbers. Fire away... and please don't offer the tired excuses of "viewership is down everywhere," "more people watch online now," or "the dog ate my homework. :highly_amused: A friend in advertising in NY just sent me some of their historical research, so I have some fresh meat for the discussion.
Where do you get that idea? "High marks" would be something over 2.0 which is about the lowest rating ever from when Veronica, Beth, Rachel and Ruthie were on the challenges. Don't minimize the measuring stick. Who knows, they might get to 2.0M if some viewers don't begin to leave as their favorites do.
Relative to how long I have been paying attention to the RW/Challenge ratings (The last 3-5 shows or so), is what I am referring to high marks. Simply being one of the top cable shows of the night is an improvement over the stuff we have been seeing lately. One week recently RW didn't even make the list! With the information you have provided these are certainly not the high water marks of yesteryear but I will enjoy what we get today and hope the show can at least continue to compete for one of the top positions every Wednesday night.
Another improvement in the ratings: CHALLENGE: RIVALS II MTV 10:00 PM 1.776 1.0 via

Yayyyyyyyyy!!!!
A good increase but I expect next week to drop a bit due to a less intriguing hook and some viewers angry about something being promoted heavily and then not delivered
A good increase but I expect next week to drop a bit due to a less intriguing hook and some viewers angry about something being promoted heavily and then not delivered
Are people really angry about that? I thought it was humorous. I don't even know if I could've watched people getting electrocuted on my TV.
Are people really angry about that? I thought it was humorous. It's simple tv happenings. People don't like being lied to.
Nice. Very nice. Trending upwards is good.
Are people really angry about that? I thought it was humorous. After seeing some commercials, they better hope that next week's episode does well because Duck Dynasty returns on the 14th and I suspect a drop in viewership at that point
Another improvement in the ratings: CHALLENGE: RIVALS II MTV 10:00 PM 1.776 1.0 via
That is really great. Episode 3 was rated higher than the first 2 and episode 4 had a significant jump from that. Almost 1.8m at this point of the season is really really good, especially after the ratings of Portland and Seasons.
Hell Yeah almost 1.8 that's what the first Rivals and BOTE was averaging.
Does anyone think marlon&jordan win the next challenge also? Reason i say this is because wouldnt you want to put Zach and trey vs Marlon and Jordan the 2 strongest guy teams so far instead of ty and leroy who have not done very much
This week's episode is called "What the Phuket?!" ... with an After Show following right behind it.
If only they had filmed RW29 sooner... then (assuming this season's ratings stay the same/increase) they could have a 2-5 minute RW29 promo after the Challenge reunion like they usually do with BGC
They should just skip the real world and give us a Freshmeat challenge.
No thanks.
They should just skip the real world and give us a Freshmeat challenge.
HELL NO!!!!!!
HELL NO!!!!!!
What's so bad about Freshmeat? You actually find the Real World entertaining? The last one was only entertaining because of Nia, St. Thomas was boring as hell, San Diego had frank, and really the last good Real World of the past decade was Las Vegas 2. I'd rather see another challenge. Real World is going to get cancelled anyways, their ratings suck so much. Their only hope is to go Bad Girls Club style and cast ratchets and hotheads and let them fight and not get kicked out like on Portland.

People, please take these no-winner, pointless discussions to PM where you can argue to your heart's content and none of us have to get pissed off for having to read it all.
The Challenge Rivals II: Viewers: 1482 Adults (18-49): 0.9 pretty low for the best episode so far
Last week: 1.776 at 1.0 This week: 1.482 at 0.9 294,000 viewers disappeared. It's not the end of the world if the drop off is arrested next week. It's not like Zach and Trey have a monumental fan base given that their RW seasons were both poorly rated. The cast members with the strongest fan connections remain in the game. Hope remains.

Bad thing is Duck Dynasty's new season starts next week, so that will probably do at least 3 times the viewers this show does and will take away some people.
This might be a case of last week, not being as exciting because of the fake out and lack of an elimination. Also the content of the episode wasn't too bombastic. This week may be being the price for that unfortunately as it was a good episodes with fan favorite Leroy and Wes feuding, drama, and a good elimination. Did anyone notice any challenge trends on twitter? I only looked twice last night but saw none.

It's shark week, that brings a lot of viewers

I'd be happy to answer it in another thread.
The competition from other networks has very little to do with the drop in ratings or any upcoming change in ratings (unless you have the Superbowl or another popular show that targets the same audience).
Here's a question, since last night's episode was listed as an hour and a half INCLUDING the after show, does this imply that the total rating given includes the 11-11:30 viewers? If this is the case, I'd suspect that the rating for just the episode would be higher
