The Challenge: Rivals II - Ratings Discussion
ChallengeMania: the Road to Rivals II - MTV 0.560 million viewers, #26; 0.392 million adults 18-49 (0.3 rating), #21 via Not a good rating for the pre-show, but did anyone really expect it to be close to the million mark? And to the freakshows out there who are already worried about ratings don't look into it too much because Battle of the Exes pre-show rating was 624,000, and we all know how great that season was rating wise.
Not a good rating for the pre-show, but did anyone really expect it to be close to the million mark?
I'll be honest. I didn't even know it was airing.
Seriously though I really think this season's ratings will shoot through the roof... mainly because there is alot of fighting/drama going on... and also, alot of promoting for this one I don't remember the last time they did this much promoting for a Challenge.
I didn't know this was even on...I don't think it's a big deal.
It's not a big deal. The Challenge Pre-Game 0.624 million viewers The Challenge Love Is A Battlefield (Season Premiere) 1.908 million viewers and even... Teen Wolf: Back to the Pack (0.1) 0.260 million viewers Teen Wolf (Season Premiere) (1.0) 2.36 million viewers
The fact that the pre-show & the Rivals marathon are 2 weeks ahead of the actual show makes me question some decision making at MTV. Unless they plan to stack the next week with Challenge-related material. Another Retro Real World weekend would suffice if they threw it back to Challenges back in the day as well as BotE and BotS. But this rating doesn't really say too much, I think. They've done a great job of pushing it. I saw quite a few commercials during the Catfish premiere.

It's better to knock the pre-show and marathon out now than next week. It would be a bad move to premiere the season on the 3rd (I recall a member asking why not July 3) and it would have also been a bad move to keep it at its original date (26th) because we would then get a week break after episode 1. They're just going to show the pre-show over the weekend, some catfish/16 & Preg and then some films the week of 4th of July. There was a repeat yesterday that I caught (and that surprised me).
Any marketing effort by MTV that only reaches out to its existing viewers does nothing to serve the needed outreach beyond the core of MTV's existing viewers. They have already demonstrated again and again with RW and the challenges in recent history that they are insufficient in number to raise the bar to the point where professionals in the media take the show seriously. Duck Dynasty's advertising is seen across a number of networks and the results speak for themselves -- the #1 cable reality program week to week, often surpassing the ratings for the broadcast networks.

I don't know if this even needs to be stated, but wow is Snooki horrible at hosting! I never really watched the Jersey Shore so I don't know much about her, but it sounded like she doesn't even know how to read. I think if they would of done the same set up as they did on BOTE preview, it would of been better. Kenny hosting with 4 other castmembers just talking about the rivalries and how they got started. Not a bunch of comedians who weren't funny.
in canada on mtv canada it airs on july 3 i could not wait till july 3 so i downloaded the rivals preview 2 days ago by torrent
in canada on mtv canada it airs on july 3 i could not wait till july 3 so i downloaded the rivals preview 2 days ago by torrent
what...what does? The 1st episode?
july 3 is the rivals preview on mtv canada and as for the other hosts of the preview well i think the cast of girl code and guy code should have not be on it in the first place i think it the other cast members of the challenges should have been on it like diem wes veronica katie mark robin anessa mike brad abraham adam johanna kelly anne and i wonder if snooki really does wants to do the challenge lol

She stated in the past how her drunken antics on Austin were what made her want to be on MTV. Side note, Girl Code's ratings aren't that great so I don't see why they expected that cast to help much, though they were at least sort of entertaining

As for why Girl Code? Some execs at MTV are desperate to find any cheap way of creating some challenge buzz to counteract the negative views towards the challenges held by the more recently arrived senior management at MTV and MTV networks.
I remember a lot of the Jersey Shore people saying back during their first season that they wanted to do a challenge...Vinny, Jenni, and Snooki in particular. But that was back when they weren't getting paid the way they are now, they probably couldn't interest them even if they made it a million dollar challenge...especially when the only ones that are athletic are Vinny, Sammi and maybe Jenni.

Question..Do you think that how some people who work at MTV look at the challenges may have something to do with why the show is on the rocks at the moment?
Really? wow. Question..Do you think that how some people who work at MTV look at the challenges may have something to do with why the show is on the rocks at the moment?
Yes
Haha as stupid as that sounds to put Jersey Shore on the challenge. I really wouldn't be surprised if MTV would cast them to be on a challenge... And by the way Vinny is not athletic at all.

And by the way Vinny is not athletic at all.
I would love it if that happened. Imagine Vinny, Sitch, and Ronnie trying to go heads up with guys like CT, Johnny & Leroy? Talk about ruining your reputation lol. Ronnie would probably be worse than Zach.

And by the way Vinny is not athletic at all.
That might be possible IT MTV were producing the challenges, but they don't. The Jersey Shore people are contractually obligated to Sally Salsano and 495 Productions, not to MTV. Then there is the matter of competing copyright claims from the NY owner of Battle of the Network Reality Stars. Adding people to a challenge who originally appeared on a show not produced by BMP would likely cause someone to press the copyright claim -- at least in hope of a payoff to go away.
Oh god...not this "Jersey shore on challenges" BS again..
When do ratings usually come out?
When do ratings usually come out?
Usually TVBYTHENUMBERS has cable ratings mid afternoon. However, MTV might put out a press release for the premiere before then.
Usually TVBYTHENUMBERS has cable ratings mid afternoon. However, MTV might put out a press release for the premiere before then.
With the amount of pre-show media the cast did (without inviting vevmo, I presume) it would be a surprise if they didn't put out a release to proclaim some ratings victory. I suppose they could do one that says they gave Heather and Dustin a beat down vs. VH1's "Couples Therapy"
Usually TVBYTHENUMBERS has cable ratings mid afternoon. However, MTV might put out a press release for the premiere before then.
TV By The Numbers usually posts the cable ratings between 4:30 and 5 PM Eastern.
Wes and CT were trending last night so hopefully that means something. But then again if MTV or whoever have already decided to axe the show then why does the ratings really matter??
Wes and CT were trending last night so hopefully that means something. But then again if MTV or whoever have already decided to axe the show then why does the ratings really matter??
Bridge on FX was trending, too, and I don't expect it to have stellar ratings, so absent momentous events, things trend for very little reason and, thus, to not much affect. TBD...
In my experience Twitter trends aren't something you want to put a lot of stock into when it comes to ratings but I think there is some merit to the idea of being slightly more optimistic after seeing some. Supposedly there were 2-3 challenge trends. I only saw CT and Wes. For the overwhelming majority of Portland I saw no trends. Hopefully Rivals II cracks one million. I was a little surprised to see that CT and Wes were trending, I think more people may be aware of the history of some of the more regular cast members than I thought.

Monday's ratings were delayed because of 4th of July so the ratings for Wednesday might not come out until tomorrow
