Here's the answer I received:
The switch to Rivals II was done pretty last minute - the rumor is that this challenge was originally slated to be Duel 3. There weren't very many other pair options.
There's another rumor floating around, but I'm not sure some of you have the emotions to handle it, so maybe I'll wait until the show starts airing.
The Island 2. Lulz.

Only the end of the whole series or a false winner would create that much chaos... But Im guessing its the first one.

Tell us tell us tell us! But omg if the winners are wrong then omg I'm gona die, that would just be playing with our emotions. I dont know why they didnt just do duel 3, but CT might not have won that so this worked out better, but ya the winners better be correct.

The winners are not incorrect.
The show better not be ending or I'll cry.
All good things....
The disappointing part is the reason it would end is countless mistakes by BMP with casting and themes

Do you have any idea on why they decided to make the switch? I'm glad they did, this cast would ruin the Duel.

Lots of cast members have talked about Duel 3 as being the end of the challenges.

Ouch, well if it is going to be the end then they need to go out in a BIG way. Not slacking off like they have before.

Describe end. Do you mean the final season idea or end as in will kill the franchise?
The winners are not incorrect.
You scared the **** out of me. I had I not re-read that I would be thinking you said the winners ARE incorrect. lol. scared me.

Final season idea, crowning the king and queen of the challenges. It does make the selection of cast more interesting and less attractive to some recent cast members
Someone alert Bill Simmons and Jacoby this can not happen. Seriously if those guys helped with the challenge, it would improve so much. But if they end it they need to do the biggest challenge yet with the biggest cash prize and attempt to get as many old and new faces together. If the money is right they will come.
Ok so does that imply that this season was ORIGINALLY going to be the end and they changed it
OR
That this season is the end but they decided to change the concept at the last minute?

This is why I love you, V1. A final season idea would be epic. I hope Trishelle comes back and they actually wait until they can get a good cast whether ir takes a couple years of being off the air or not, I'd still be interested and that's the truth. I mean hell the next challenge won't happen until 2014 anyway.
You're spot on about it eliminating some of the recent cast members. They need to go creative and have an equal number like say Seasons 2 intended to be.

I have no idea who Bill Simmons is but I liked it anyway, lol.

Bill Simmons is in charge of Grantland. He and some of the writers have a reality fantasy league, which is where we get the comedy-filled points system for Challenges and RW.
If it is the Final Season idea, I'd love to see some of the old school people back and perhaps let one of the vets from that time claim the title.
Additionally, I cannot help but smile at the idea who would most definitely NOT be invited. :)

Oh ok so that's where that point system came from. Thanks, Molds.
I'm having second thoughts about molds's post. If the series indeed would come to an end, would it really make a difference if she says the rumours now or when the season is airing, because hell will broke loose either way? I think it must be something that we wouldn't really expect and the end of the series clearly is not that surprising anymore, because V1 already said it that there're a lot of talking about it.
I think BMP/MTV changed the format to spice things up a big, maybe they heard that CT/Johnny/Frank/Zach formed a preshow alliance and they wanted to break this alliance with pairing two of them up with the top 2 targets of the preshow alliance (Wes, Trey). Nevertheless the change was the best thing they did. Now, they can make a "Duel 3: Champions" season with Emily and CT as both fan favorites and power houses. That would be a good ending even though the best overall female won't participate.

My initial thought was that a fan favorite was supposed to be there and that`s why they wanted to Duel 3 and than that person was out they changed format because they didn`t want to waste Duel 3 on this cast and obviously people here would be sad that they didn`t get to see their favorite competitor. But,then again that is probably not true

I would not invest effort in that line of thinking. Save yourself from the unproductive "sturm und drang." ;)

Nummer Eins, zwei oder drei?
I feel like the ratings fluctuated for a while. I feel like they were high until The Inferno 3, then they dropped for The Inferno 3-The Island. Then they came back up with The Duel 2 (because its a Duel) and The Ruins (because of the faces they got back), Fresh Meat II I heard was the worst challenge ever in termed of ratings. Cutthroat went up a bit, Rivals was higher, Exes I heard did fairly well, then Battle of the Seasons plummeted. And seeing how 16 out of the 33 cast members on this challenge were on Battle of the Seasons, I don't see the ratings getting much better.
As that other dude said I think we can take off 4 ppl from that list, that being Austin and Trishelle should be interesting. I think the majority of the audience wants to see vets or at least some of them actively in the show, no one wants a "rookie takeover", I kinda agree, I dont know about you guys but I lost interest when Wes left. It could be because Frank was the main character and I preferred Wes' methods of being a villain, at least he isnt as obvious about it and doesnt go yelling and screaming about nothing. I dont think they should flood us with rookies, it has to be a slow and gradual process. I hope Frank is less annoying this time around but I doubt it
