I disagree 2010 was atually realistic
You mean 2012? What's the point of saying everyone's gonna die then have a couple hundred live? Also realistic.. I don't think a limo out running a gapping pit in the earth is realistic.

yes I mean 2012, lol. Touche. CGI, needs love too.
The Rum Diary is terrible in my book. The story was stupid. Nothing really happened. The plot was not crafted as well as it could have been and was nebulous at best. The characters were flat (not talking of Amanda Heard of course). And this movie perpetuates negative stereotypes of people of color. If you get *****ed or r*ped by a dark native, then all of a sudden you are worth nothing and deserved to get your ***** kicked to the curb. I don't wish bad things to others, but I am glad that the movie tanked in box offices sales because they honestly deserve it. I cannot believe that my friends dragged me to such a movie.
And I am not even going to touch Airbender...So many things were wrong with that movie...

Rum Diary is based on a Hunter S. Thompson novel, and if you have seen Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas, no one has had success so far properly transitioning The Good Doctor's works for the big screen. Read the books and in both cases you will get way more out of the experience.
Never seen TRD but i agree airbender was awful.
The white washing of America is disappointing and especially appalling in this movie. It is sad that Hollywood execs don't think that Americans of Asian decent can bring people to the box office.

And I have had the unfortunate "pleasure" of seeing fear and loathing. I understand the origins of TRD; but the movie was a disaster. I understand your argument that there is something lost in translation when directors, design artists, and actors get involved. But on the other hand, there are some books that should never be made for the silver screen, and this is one of those books.
Again, they still propagate negative ideas about women. The way the movie portrayed Amanda Heard's character was disappointing. The value of her character is often tied to who she is sleeping with. She is confident and this amazing temptress when she is with the rich white dude. But immediately after she gets a dark co ck in her, she is suddenly trash and ruined. This is so wrong on so many levels.
And the only way she is able to redeem herself and to pick up the pieces of her life is through ending up with Johnny D's character's di ck.

Not all books, but three times movies have been made based on HST's work, and all three have been considered failures. Where The Buffalo Roam, Fear And Loathing, and now Rum Diary.
Rum Diary in book form was not what I would call one of Thompson's better works. It's different, though, since it is fiction, so theoretically it should have been easier to make interesting on the big screen.
As someone who has read just about all of Thompson's works, I highly encourage you to pick up the written word. At his peak, the man didn't need a movie deal to make what he wrote come to life in your mind.
This wasn't necessarily a really bad movie but The Dictator was very disappointing. I think Cohen needs to move on from his "crazy foreign guy visiting America" shtick.

More people would have seen these films if they were authentic. I get that big names are supposed to draw numbers... but Hollywood needs to give some other types of people a chance. There are plenty of good actors of all different cultural backgrounds. There is no good reason why an Asian male can't be cast as a leading man. In fact, at this point, I feel like a lot of people would see a film based solely on that.

I agree about the books being better. The problem with the film adaptations is that they focus on having an eccentric version of Hunter S, Thompson who was way too eccentric to begin with. Directors are incapable of toning him down and writers cannot capture his way of telling a story in a script.

I heard somewhere they are working on a Star Trek movie with Sulu as the lead based on the Starship Excelsior, but might just be a rumor.

Youre absolutely right. I hate that **** by the way.

I am not baiting you into an argument, but why do you think that is? I am aware that it happens. My opinion on it has always been that it is because there isn't a huge body of popular Asian literature that has ever reached the west. A 1000 years of beautiful poetry doesn't give people a lot to work with IMO. There just doesn't seem to be a strong written history that is adaptable to film to draw from that Hollywood has to work with. I would love to find a huge body of Asian literature(i.e. classic fiction novels) to dive into, but there really isn't one out there, at least not in English translation.

Klingons are the villians this time around as well. I liked the Romulans better. As for Asian literature comment I'll respond when I get off work.

I like the Romulans better. The Klingon rode the short bus to space school. Too bad Shinzon was a Picard clone or they could tie in the Reman somehow. Shinzon was the best Trek movie villain ever (and all you old school Khan people who read this can kiss my booty--not on the left cheek, not on the right cheek, but right in the middle) :moon:
Has anyone seen the trailer for "Ted"?
Basically, it's a Seth MacFarlane vehicle. Mark Walhberg with an animated teddy bear with Peter Griffin's voice. It looks like it could be really funny or monumentally bad (I'm leaning towards the latter...)

I saw the previews, but I'm just wondering why it's Rated R?

Have you seen the unrated preview? Lots of swearing, sexual innuendo, drug usage...
EDIT: The official reason: "Rated R for crude and sexual content, pervasive language, and some drug use"

I guess people would be in to this...
I saw Ted and it's a damn good movie. I just wish he didn't have that obvious Peter Griffin voice.
How have you seen it? It hasn't been released anywhere yet.

For like a week and then it was taken down which I'm glad since it was a ****ty quality. However I'm definetly going to see it in theaters for complete sake.
