Amazing episode. Did I hear Jeff right? Keith is going to redemption island?
Amazing episode. Did I hear Jeff right? Keith is going to redemption island?
Unfortunately you did hear right. I guess they learned nothing from the epic fail that was redemption island last year..
I'm confused, I skipped last season. So when will the SECOND person get back in the game? This R.I thing blows, Christine was robbed.

RI at this point is lame. We went though this discussion last year and it sucks. For CBS, it is good. They get to keep almost everyone around with camera time until the last two episodes. It did help ratings last year and I am sure it will this year. So, it is not going away.

Yeah, Cochran cannot win now, either because he ****** off half the jury, or because he's at the bottom of Coach's tribe, or both. Dumb move.
But I thought last season had the lowest ratings in the shows history?
Every season is probably going to be the lowest season in history going forward. The key is to slow that death knell and ratings were stable after the premiere (which offered an acceptable number for CBS and was not that far of a deviation off of the previous season, also calculating in falling viewership of network shows and the offsetting effect of advanced product placement to increase value.) You can't make Survivor ratings go back to 2000-2001 levels, you can only try to milk your aging cash cow until it dies.

The people on RI are around for 5 min at most (which, admittedly, is more than some people still in the actual game) per episode and it's just annoying. I really like the whole "oh, you have no social game? Bye bye" part. And with last season, we had the whole Matt "Jesus loves me so much he's going to help me get through this oh dear God I love you so much I'm going to cry now" thing. We don't have that this season. Oh wait, we do. It's Brandon. What are we going to do with Keith? Watch him...stretch? Lay down? Run his fingers through his hair? Redemption Island might be a good idea for the first half of the game. Second half? No thanks.
Had I not known what was going to happen before watching the episode, I think I wouldn't have been shocked. Cochran is a hardcore fan and those types of people will NOT let the game of Survivor go to a game of chance and luck. How many times have we seen tribes claim they will stick together and draw rocks? Multiple times, but it's only ever happened once and that was way before hidden immunity idols. I personally would love the game just once more go to rocks, but I'm bold enough to predict that it will never happen again. It's one of those once in a life time things. I personally really enjoyed the episode, or at least it was way better than last weeks. I definitely wanted Ozzy to lose, but I mean come on. Who really believed he would ever lose to Christine and then the merge wouldn't happen? Chances are, no one. His performance was horrific and I'm wondering why Christine herself didn't catch on. Kristen Stewart could have pulled it off better or possibly Federal Agent Phillip... As of right now, I'm rooting for Coach to win this game. I didn't think he would ever have it in him to actually step it up and play, but I guess the Dragon Slayer is really in it to win it this time. I'm rooting for him because I can't stand Ozzy and half the other players they have on this season are way too lackluster and never to anything. The only other person I would want to see win would either be Cochran (Although he's an idiot for immediately telling him he turned) or possibly Brandon (shocker right?). As for Keith going...Keith who? I didn't even really know his name until last week anyway. He's basically a filler. Still really hate the concept of redemption island and there really is no reason to have it at this point. Although the only thing I can hope for is an Ozzy/Cochran battle where Cochran upsets Ozzy. I can only hope though right?
This bit from hitfix pretty much sums up my feelings on Cochran flipping and the moment as a whole,
So Keith doesn't really understand why he was voted out and Ozzy also doesn't get how his best laid plans of mice and men gang aft agley-ed as badly as they did. And that lack of self-awareness took away from some of my enjoyment of what ought to have been a triumphant moment. Also, Cochran's about to face a lot of hatred next week and his most likely defenders are a group of maniacal Christians who pray to a reality TV-obsessed God. How are you supposed to feel good about Cochran's position? I guess you just have to acknowledge that his other choice was four bullies and a jellyfish who were never going to let him truly play their reindeer games. In that respect, this was the perfect episode... FOR REVENGE.
REVENGE!!! That was the best from Ozzy this week. I also can't wait to see the shot of him standing in front of the rainbow again. Brilliant work by the crew right there. I think I am pulling for Sophie for the win.
I thought Probst said that Redemption Island would not go after the merge this season. Does anyone know how long they will have it? Last season, this took away from the jury element at Tribal because the voted out players just kept adding up at RI without any competitions. Hopefully this season they will atleast continue the comps every week so the loser can go to tribal as jury and hear what is going on.

Or at least that's what I remembered from the preview show.
I really don't get why they even brought Redemption Island back. I haven't talked to anyone that like it last season. It makes the end of the episodes totally anticlimactic. Keith getting voted out was a great moment, but it would've been even better if he was really going home. The duels suck and for the most lart are a complete toss up. Having RI before the merge is alright, but postmerge, it's just a distraction from the actual game.

But just like any twist, RI gives producers control and an opportunity to change things just in case things get boring. I honestly believe the producers know exactly what they will do with it - it depends on who is voted out. If they want that person back in the game, they can switch it up. Thanks Fabulous for pointing out what Probst said, this will limit the producers somewhat but they can still put someone back whenever they want, and continue to do so throughout the game. I posted this last season with RI and I still feel the same way. I would love to see a season where the twists and key things were revealed ahead of time. This is the only way to really see the players develop a strategy. Knowing when the merge is, or when there is a tribe switch forces you to play strategically and rely on relationships with everyone, not just a few people. Having all these producer controlled elements has switched the game around too much. It is purely reactive and emotional now - and year after year, more often than not, the more passive of the final two or three wins (someone who has least offended the others). I would love to see the game get back to a competition between the players and less producer orchestrated. Much better outcomes.
Cochran is an idiot it's kind of sad that he wants acceptance that bad that he will betray people he's been with since day one. So maybe they haven't treated him the best but notice how they never voted him out? I really hope a Savaii tribe member wins even though it looks like it will be a repeat of last years RI with the top 6 being all from one tribe. Anyone else think it's funny how Brandon at the end of the episode said "Don't talk to him like that" or something along the lines? Because I'll go 3 episodes back when Brandon was talking **** on Mikayla if Brandon makes it to the top 8 I'm not watching anymore. I know it's a little crazy but I just can't stand him.

Anyone that will willingly go to picking rocks when they have another way out is an idiot! Cochran really had no other choice.

And no one on the other tribe would pick Cochran over their own. I'd rather go out the game with dignity than stick around another day. That's just me though.
I see your point but in Survivor you can't say I'll screw them over today and make friends tomorrow because nothing is certain and also you don't even know if there will be a tomorrow.
I agree 100%. However at some point down the line things could switch up and they may need Cochran again and if he pulled through for them then that would be fresher in their minds come night 39. On his podcast, Rob C mentioned how he screwed Jenna and Heidi over on day 30 and 9 days later if he had been in the final tribal then both of them would have voted for him. If you're a good enough player, you can win them over even if they hate you. Not that I have that much(or any) faith in Cochran.
I see your point but in Survivor you can't say I'll screw them over today and make friends tomorrow because nothing is certain and also you don't even know if there will be a tomorrow.
The thing is, anything can happen on Survivor. Anything is possible and if someone wants to play that way, more power to them. You are right though in a way. You play Survivor in the now, not the future.
