I think the "trick" is more about what brings River to kill him and how she turns into the River we know now. The little bit at the end when the Doctor says "haven't you figured that one out yet" I think is just Moffat playing with us and telling us it's simpler than we believe. It is a family and kids show at the end of the day!
He also had that quote after River's identity as Melody was finally revealed saying that kids had figured it out a long time ago because it was really simple and obvious when you didn't think too hard about it and overanalyze things.
Just like River said she lies, one major rule with the Doctor is that he always lies too!
The preview does have me very excited and I am even more excited knowing the show will be back in a few weeks! I thought we had to wait until the end of September for new episodes, so an end of August start date seems so soon!

I love how Rory defaulted to being dead in last nights episode when the lift fell and they woke up. Poor Rory. Always dying.
Were you as scared as I was by the last episode, B? I figured out where they were pretty quickly but those dolls still creeped the bejeezus out of me! That is definitely one I would have hidden behind my couch for...if it wasn't up against my wall that is.

And now that I am finally all caught up on Torchwood, I have some thoughts. I must say I am very disappointed in The Blessing so far. Is it just a crack in the earth that sucks things into this black hole? Why did it have to look so much like giant lady parts? This series would have been much better off as 5 or 6 episodes instead of double the amount. I loved Jack's mention of his friend the Doctor a few episodes back. It really should have been more global from the start instead of staying focused in America. One episode left! Hopefully it will be worth all that filler that we had to sit through.

It was a waste of episodes. I am ready for the finale tonight, but sadly I'd be happy if it was killed off so I would not have to watch another season.
It wasn't Torchwood. It was a shoot 'em up freak show with no cause.

I thought it was going to be better and get back to old Torchwood when they had the flashback episode about jack's past and Angelo but then it seemed like everything we learned about Angelo and his role in the Miracle was nullified in the next episode. Oh! He started it and tried to become immortal and has this panel thingy under his bed but really he doesn't know anything about the Miracle so forget we ever told you about him! haha!
It annoyed me so much.
They really should have just skipped ahead a few months around episode 3 instead of episode 9 and avoided all that filler of pointless newscasts and tons of scenes of people talking around tables. If they had done something like the DW episode 'Turn Left' and just done flash forwards showing the changing world I know it would have been much better. Or at least moved much more quickly. It's like it was written as a 6 parter and then Starz came in and said they wanted more episodes so RTD had to go back and just fill in all this junk that was needed.
And I really hate how dumb they have made the the gang. Gwen and Jack especially would never have just called up Rex at the CIA using their real names and location and talked about their whole plan in front of the Oswald guy so he knows everything and then just laughed about it when they are supposed to be super secretive and in hiding. Puh-lease.

I'm sad that we are already coming up on the last episodes of the season. No DW for another year and Sherlock doesn't come back until May! Thank goodness the fall schedule starts next week.
I've watched all of Torchwood(US) and I thought it was brilliant up until Rex came back to life. If it would have stopped with almost all of Torchwood dying it'd be brilliant. But instead they do cliffhangers for next season which is stupid because I've read there won't be a second season. But most of all what ****** me off is how they kill the Doctor lady and Ester my two favorite characters. But they bring back Rex? That ********? Oh well I'd still give it 7.8/10 as an overall season.

I enjoyed it, although I think this episode appealed more to the fans of Vincent and the Doctor than The Time of Angels/Flesh and Stone. I kind of felt it tried a little too hard to get at my heart strings. I also knew the Doctor was lying, so as cold as it seemed for him to shut the door on Amy +37 it was also expected.

There are still three big episodes with lots of twists and don't forget the Christmas special! I was also disappointed that Sherlock got held back. I was sure it would be premiering this fall.

Besides a few glimmers (like the attempt at story telling they tried which tatertots mentioned - that went nowhere) this has been a horrible season in my opinion. If they were going to drag it out for 10 episodes, maybe they should have returned to the original formula of having a base somewhere in the US and a weekly wack an alien episode.
Or, they could have followed the Children of The Earth model and done a compact, riveting mini-series.
Instead they went with an almost incoherent dragged out 10 episode series that felt over produced and under thought. The villains were ridiculous (especially Oswald Danes who was completely unnecessary) and the entire season could have been condensed into a syfy movie of the week (playing right after Category 5 Killer Flying Piranhas.)
The only time this show ever felt like Torchwood was actually the last 15 minutes. It was fast paced, it had the signature music with a twist and Jack at the center like it should have been from the beginning.

The one thing that bothered me was the music. I usually think it is spot on and that Murray Gold is a genius but it was too in your face like it was yelling "YOU WILL FEEL SOMETHING RIGHT NOW!!!"
Well the Doctor always lies, doesn't he? ;) I thought that we would be keeping both Amy's for a bit because they have had a theme of two versions the whole season and I thought she might tie back into the Doctor's death day. I thought it was a great showcase for both Karen and Arthur and I tend to like the episodes that deal with someone taking the long route to meet the Doctor. And poor Amy has waited way too long.

Does anyone even remember the point of Phicorp or the assassin guy? What happened to the cults? Why did we spend an episode and a half on the guy that went crazy and killed Dr. what's-her-face? What exactly is the ******* Blessing?!

If we have been told time and again (and not just in the Miracle Day series) that his blood is NOT special, why would it have the power to make everyone in the world immortal instead of a fixed point in time where they heal after injury like Jack? And why would it make Rex a fixed point in time? This is not how things work RTD! I know you hate writing linear stories but you actually need to wrap things up and have an ending. Ugh.

This is what irks me the most. The entire series was a wild goose chase that was filled with dead ends that played almost no part in the conclusion. That's why I hope they reconsider the series and maybe go back to the original formula so that they can focus episode, by episode or do a short mini series with a single writer/director (although RTD stated he was done with "monster of the week" concerning Torchwood.)
While having many writers and directors seems to work with Doctor Who, it did not work with TMD as the entire series was disjointed and I don't think RTD took enough control in making sure from start to finish it was a cohesive and engaging story.

I wouldn't mind so much if they decided that TMD was a "fresh start" and they didn't want to adhere to past continuity but when they even said multiple times in TMD that Jack's blood wasn't what made him special and then they based the whole miracle and change of Rex on Jack's blood, it really pissed me off. In fact, just two episodes before the finale we get this bit of dialogue,

After watching the finale a second time I am much more pleased with the season ender and the season as a whole. The finale felt like it was lacking [I]something[/I], and still does, but it doesn't bother me too much. I liked the Indian Jones skull cave and the epilogue a lot. Seeing River go back to her family and the Ponds' having a semi-normal family bonding session was really nice.
I think Amy and Rory will only be around for a few episodes next season but I do hope they explore Amy's question about what kind of person she is now that she killed a person. I'm also excited to see the Doctor go "underground" and be a little more quiet next season.
Also, the mention of the "fall of the eleventh" does not bode well for Matt Smith's tenure lasting longer than next season. I'm so attached to him now that I don't want to even think about him going!
Oh! And I definitely suggest watching the Doctor Who Confidential for this last episode. It has a really great part on River Song and her adventures with the Doctor from her point of view. It shows some things I think they had to cut out for time and her life makes a bit more sense after watching.
I had to watch the finale a second time to appreciate it as my response to the first viewing was, "that's it?"
In the end I thought it was a good end to the season although I wasn't sold on the explanation as to how the doctor "died." Normally when Moffat writes, it feels like he writes the end and then the journey to get there. With this season it seems clear that he decided that the doctor should die in episode 1 and then threw an explanation together at the last second to nullify the entire season premise.
It could have been better, but still I'm satisfied with how things played out.
I did enjoy Rory, Amy and River hanging out at the end and I look forward to next season along with maybe a new companion or two.
I think the explanation for the the Doctor not dying would have been better and more exciting if we already hadn't dealt with a lot of doubles and doppelgangers. I guess it was just a theme of the past season but it seemed a little overused in so short of a time. I'm just glad he wasn't another flesh ganger! And if he really does go more underground next season, I like that he is using it as a chance to start fresh instead of just acting like nothing happened.
The River Song bit did get sad when she started to talk about the events in Silence in the Library. Poor virtual River!
I took the time to watch the finale for a third time. I know, a third time!
It was worth it. It seems to meld better each and every viewing. I can appreciate the genius that went into making such a powerful series and I feel bad for nitpicking as I love it. Maybe it didn't go exactly as I wanted it to go, but it did go and it was great.
