Doctor Who, Bacchus!! Doctor Freaking Who.
PS, I've started to re-watch Torchwood to get ready for the new series. Oh it's good to have the gang back in my life.
Eliza Dushku will be appearing on both Tourchwood and White Collar this season. I'm in heaven... Rick Fox is a lucky b *******

I'm lucky I checked my DVR. It wasn't set to record tonight because, it is not a "first run" episode (i.e. the broadcast date was last week which means some a**h*** at corporate made a last minute decision to screw the fans with the skip week.) The guide data states it was shown last week...
I'm sorry to all who this might offend, but if BBCA pulls this crap again, I'm done. I will use other means to watch this show (as a large group of fans are already doing.)
It would be an upgrade anyway, being I don't get DW in HD with DirecTV, whereas I could (using other means.)
*"Other means" could be flying to England, just to make that clear. *sigh*
My dvr did that last week too, thinking that it wasn't a first run episode.
Thankfully they were only off by one week for two episodes this year, unlike last year which was horribly off schedule from the British airings. I must admit that when it gets off sync I do watch it first through other means because avoiding spoilers is very hard to do. I do always watch it when it airs on BBCA though so I don't feel too horrible. I really hope they don't take any weird breaks once it comes back in the fall and just stick with the original schedule.
I've literally removed the bookmarks to all my favorite DW sites and even removed the DW subreddits I follow as to not be spoiled about tonight's episode. In this day and age, you have to live in a vacuum to not get spoiled, which is why hearing that BBCA would be running the shows on the same day was great news. Sadly, they screwed the fans over after only 5 episodes and now there is really no reason to watch the shows on BBCA, unless you want to basically see a syndicated repeat (which in my case is in Substandard Definition.)
Like I said, I'll watch tonight's episode to get caught up, but I can't really discuss it as it has already been discussed and the buzz has faded. The extracurricular enjoyment of the show has been stolen from me.
This fall, I'm going to watch it in HD as aired. I'd like that to be on BBCA, but it doesn't have to be...
It is entirely up to them.
So good! But of course now I have so many more questions and I still feel like we need to learn more about her relationship with the Doctor specifically.
Mostly my questions are about her timeline and how she has crossed it and exactly how much she knows about her past.
Like, does she even remember her childhood? If she does she should know that she was the girl in the astronaut suit and would have immediately known what they were going back to 1969 to look for. And when she examined the space suit that they even flashed back to in this episode she should have known what broke out of it and that it was her. And 200 years in the future Doctor that we saw get killed would have known who River is at that point and would have known he was sending them back to basically find her and the Silence, so it seems weird that he would risk them crossing timelines.
But then looking back at this episode when Rory comes to get her, it's almost like she is seeing him for the first time. So maybe River grows up away from Amy and Rory, which is why she would go by River and not Melody, or she really doesn't remember her childhood? And now that we know she can regenerate and that is what we saw in the second episode, maybe it's a side effect for her that she can't remember her life before regeneration? I don't know but I do now that her whole timeline is still messed up like it's always been, haha! Plus, I'm still not convinced it was her, the girl or a future River, in the space suit that killed the Doctor. That would lead to even more timeline confusion and crossing.
I guess I'll have to wait until September for some more answers, which just sounds so horribly far away right now.
I did not know about this (back in 2006.)

What a twisted, twisted Who Universe it is!
p.s. Less than two weeks to Torchwood.
That might be from when they worked on the same Masterpiece move, The Ruby in the Smoke. Matt also appeared in Billie's show Secret Diaries of a Call Girl a year or so later. I don't think they ever dated though. Billie might have already been married during that Masterpiece movie.
Very small world! I also like that Freema had a bit part in the "Army of Ghosts" episodes before she was cast as Martha and they even put a line in about her "cousin" being killed in the attack on London for all the fans. Same with Gwen and Tosh from Torchwood who were on Doctor Who before being cast. I guess the best way to star in those series is to play a small role first! Then you are in!
I was watching Easy A on Starz (I'm now an Emma Stone fan; A very smart comedy) and right after they did a full Torchwood trailer. Wow. I think it is going to be kicked up a notch (or 11 notches.) I have a feeling the "Starz" treatment will explode Torchwood in the US. It is clear that they are working with a budget that far exceeds that in which we were used to in the past, yet we still have Captain Jack and Company.
I can't wait. This is going to fill the Who void!
I'm really excited about it. The only negative thing I have heard from reviewers is that they may spend a little too much time explaining the history of Torchwood for those already acquainted with the show. Some weren't fans of certain stories or characters but I think that is more personal preference.
But if that is the only major complaint then I am very excited for the Starz version! It will be great to see them working with a big budget and I really can't wait to have the gang (or what's left of it) back on my tv.
I've been watching the Little Dorrit mini-series lately and Eve Myles, Gwen Cooper, is in it. Every time she comes on screen I get a little more excited for Torchwood.

Looks like I will be making a trip up to LA to stand in line so I can see Jack and Gwen a few days early and on a giant screen!!
I really need to turn my west coast friends into Who fans. I have a feeling that it wouldn't be the best idea to bring my little cousins to this screening.

Awesome. Very jealous!

You could always extend your long weekend and take a trip down south! There just happens to be a screening in a city near you! ;)
Torchwood is back!!
Anwen is totally my new favorite character. I am convinced that the "they" weren't trying to kill Gwen but actually trying to steal Anwen because she is the most adorable thing ever.
Favorite line of the night was "It's not Touchwood, it's Torchwood". Touchwood really is quite appropriate, haha!
Also, Jack using Owen Harper as his FBI alias got me crying. Still miss those guys.
I thought it was a good start that took time to introduce the new characters (Mekhi Phifer is always great) as well as the old (Captain Jack can die?!!) giving both those new to the series and regulars a lot to look forward to this season.
It definitely had the "Starz treatment!"

The action sequence definitely felt a little out of place when you compare it to the previous seasons but it was awesome so I'll let it slide.
I'm not totally convinced that Jack can die yet. I think he may be a little more vulnerable but they need to show me a little more than a cut and a few bruises to convince me. Maybe he is just like everyone else now. His body can be injured but you don't die. I don't think you heal either, right. You just exist at that new state? I'm definitely interested though! And I want to know exactly who is chasing the old Torchwood gang. I hope it doesn't stay as this vague "they" for much longer.
Just watched the second episode and didn't really care for it. A lot of it just felt like filler and the whole talking to the conference of doctors to McGyver-up an antidote was especially annoying. It's Torchwood and there is a crazy thing happening in the world, do we really need to make this big of a deal out of looking for an orange tube?
Hopefully next week will be better.

I didn't post as I didn't want to rain on anyone else's parade.
It was pure filler with zero focus and lacked what made COE great (a point.) I hope that being we still have 8 episodes left, the background information is done, the Starz over-treatment is done and we can get back to awesomeland!
More Jack. More Torchwoodishness. Less filler.

The only parts I liked were the Jack and Gwen banter, learning that people are still aging but not dying and the introduction of Lauren Ambrose because she is awesome. The rest was pretty unnecessary and I really didn't need the shot of the asian CIA double agent lady walking towards them with her head turned at the end. That felt way more like Starz and totally unlike Torchwood.
Angry momma Gwen is pretty bad *** though.
On a side note. I'm very sad that I have to work at the same time the Doctor Who and Torchwood panels at Comic Con are happening. I was planning on putting my stalker skills to good use!

Comic Con alone is a reason to live in SD. To miss the best part is TRAGIC! :(

I loved the second half preview and am excited that we are only a month away (I'm still slogging through Torchwood, but thus far it is not really doing it for me - although I do plan to stick with the series.)

And yes, I think it is back to being River as the person in the suit. She killed "a good man" and then we had the episode, "A Good Man Goes to War" which was in no way attempting to be subtle in saying that the Doctor was the good man (at least as far as I am concerned.)
Although it is so obvious, that it just can't be, right? There is always a trick up his sleeve...
