Doctor Who

Anyone here a Doctor Who fan? I got into it when David Tennant took over as the Tench Doctor and I liked the first episode a lot with Matt Smith as the Eleventh incarnation that just premiered on BBC America. The scene in the beginning when he was trying out foods again to find what he liked was especially fun! I know they are further along in the UK but try not to spoil me please!

I might get into Doctor Who. i hear so much about it on YT and stuff.

So I got season 2 on Blu-ray. I made it through 3 of the 4 disks and at that point knew I had to go back and watch Doctor Who to really appreciate the nuances of the show being there are so many crossover themes. So I streamed all of DW Season 1 last week and I'm a couple of episodes into season 2 now and being there is absolutely nothing on TV for the foreseeable future I think I am just going to keep watching until I'm all caught up. That's how roll. Go big (i.e. watch everything) or go home (don't watch at all.) :D

They actually have a DW marathon on BBCA all day today and tomorrow so you can catch some eps that way if you have the channel. They are probably not showing them in order so it might spoil some stuff for you. I am such a big fan and am trying to go back and watch all of the old series but it takes a little longer since they aren't on Netflix Instant. I love Torchwood too. I heard they were trying to bring it to America through Showtime or SyFy or something for another season but I haven't heard much about it for a while. I hope they don't. I liked how it ended with the Children of Earth mini-series. I was actually just rewatching some DW the other day after the latest Christmas special (which was awesome) aired because I needed to more of a fix, haha, and of course I chose some of the saddest ones and ended up crying like a baby. The new season starts in the spring so you better catch up quick because the previews for it look SO GOOD! Can you tell I'm a huge fan? ;)

When I catch up with where they start (probably next week) I'll just stream the missing episodes and watch via BBCA from there.
I love Torchwood too. Torchwood is coming to Starz in the summer on 2011 with a 10 episode run - but I haven't read beyond that as I am scared I am going to run into spoilers. I need a DW chat buddy to talk about all my theories! Hurry up! Edit: Yes! DW has it's own thread now! Makes me happy. :D
Doctor Who theme in Mario Paint. Personally, I think this is a perfectly acceptable way to spend your time. YouTube - Mario Paint - Doctor Who Theme (2010)
I'll give an A for effort, but it doesn't grab me like the actual theme. Heck, I hear it at the beginning and end of every episode and I still feel the need to crank it!
I'll give an A for effort, but it doesn't grab me like the actual theme. Heck, I hear it at the beginning and end of every episode and I still feel the need to crank it!
Fiiine... It's really bad, I've started to hum the theme music during other shows when they cut to commercial after a mysterious occurrence or some scifi type of action. haha! Doctor Who is on the brain! BBCA had a special on during the holidays called "Doctor Who at the Proms" where they had the orchestra play all the themes over the series and they gave some background info on how they were composed. It was really great to here the songs played like that in that type of environment and to learn more about their background. There are some clips on youtube that you should check out since I don't think it will be aired again for a while.
The cool thing is after I watched the rendition you provided (which is great in merit tatertos, don't get me wrong, haha) I found all sorts of versions from heavy metal to classical. Cool stuff. I'll have to find that special, when it is time.

Aren't you SO excited? :D
So now that you are all caught up let's hear your theories!

Who do you think River Song really is?
Why is Amy so special?
Who is the voice in the TARDIS that said "Silence will fall"? And what is the "silence"?
Why is Amy's house so big and why does it have a staircase to a third floor/attic that really can't exist?
Those should be good topics to get you started. :D
I'd say the staircase is probably hidden by a perception filter and is the same thing as what we saw in The Lodger. A time machine under construction. The reason I say that is from the teaser above there is a shot of what looks like a Tardis, but it's not the current Doctor's Tardis. Not sure who's voice it is in the Tardis saying that silence will fall, but I have a feeling that will be the upcoming arc and it will probably be a villain that is familiar to the series. As for River Song, it is hard to place her and I think that her reveal is going to be the big cliffhanger at the end of the first part of series 6. It has to tie back to something we know since the series rebooted (or at least I think it should.) If someone is building a Tardis, then you'd think there was another time lord kicking around somewhere... p.s. Amy is special because she is a ginger and the Doctor never gets to be a ginger so he's living vicariously through her! :wink2:
I think it's a perception filter too and is related to The Lodger episode. We never really found out who flew away in that episode after all and that episode seems kind of random compared to the rest of the season until you think of it as one giant hint about what is going on with Amy's house. There is no way that shot was framed to showcase the staircase and they just didn't notice that there is no 3rd floor. They obviously meant for us to take notice of it. I never thought that the different Tardis in the preview could be the one on/in her house. That could fit nicely! Plus her front door, like the door to the second floor apt. in The Lodger, resembles the Tardis itself. Amy's room and the hallways are Tardis blue after all so I think there is something special about the house Tardis-related. And there is a mysterious person/thing that landed in Amy's yard right making the burn marks before River that we still don't know about. Some think the voice is Davros and he may be the one orchestrating the "silence" and the TARDIS exploding. I'm not totally convinced, I think it may be a new villan too but the voice does sound similar to Davros from previous episodes. There are theories that River is actually Jenny, the Doctor's daughter but I don't buy that. Especially since Jenny was originally supposed to die but Moffat asked RT Davies to have her live since Rivers' death was coming in a few episodes and he didn't want the impact of that to be lessened by a death so close together. River has been in the plans for the series for a while now and Jenny was supposed to be a one-off. I don't think they have any connection. People also think River is Amy but I don't buy that either. I do think she has some kind of relationship similar to a wife but I don't think it can be that simply defined. Well, Donna was a ginger too! ;) The Doctor makes all these fairytale and story-like remarks to Amy about her life, her name that I think there is more to her than meets the eye. Much like River.
It sucks to marathon through an entire 6 seasons of a show and then...nothing. Now I just have to wait for the next season to come when it comes. Today I tried filling the void a bit. I watched all of the Doctor who themes. All of the Doctor's regenerations. A clip of all the Masters and read the I AM A DALEK AMA thread on reddit.... I have trained you well. :D Have you seen the latest Christmas Special yet?
Have you seen the latest Christmas Special yet?
Ah yes, I saw that right after I finished series 5. It was a nice filler with a great Christmas storyline - although probably more fulfilling for people like you who had been waiting half a year for a new episode, and not a day. As I've stated in the past, the Christmas specials are always fun (being they are Doctor Who) but they are generally out of cannon or "side" cannon and I want to get back to the good stuff (like the truth behind River Song!) p.s How could he just toss poor Marilyn aside like that after taking her hand in marriage? ;)
The Doctor is a player! This was my favorite Christmas Special so far. Not only was it the most Christmas-y but I think it had some nice hints to the next season. Or maybe we are all just reading into things a little too much and they won't have to do with the main plot arcs but I have to do something to fill the DW void! Plus how can you not love Michael Gambon? I love that River Song link, haha!
This was my favorite Christmas Special so far.
I agree it was the best Christmas special yet and I really enjoyed it (unlike say, The Runaway Bride.) The problem for me and my appreciation of Christmas specials is that I'd watch them right after an epic, arc ending, series changing season finale (literally minutes later...) There is no where but down to go and it takes time to get steam behind the show again (or possibly a bit of anticipation.) I think next time around when I have months to wait, it will change how I view the specials.

This about sums up the entire Donna period for me, haha. YouTube - English Teacher-Comic Relief:David Tennant & Catherine Tate
Wait, the Tenth Doctor is going to marry his daughter, Jenny? That might even be weirder than Dexter getting with his own sister...
And she is pregnant! And her dad was a Doctor too!
And she is pregnant! And her dad was a Doctor too!
Actually, her dad is the father! I don't care if he regenerated a few times since then. He is still the Doctor and thus one in the same! Haha.
p.s. I've been trying to find you in the crowd at the Marriott, lol. YouTube - Craig Ferguson 2/28/11C Late Late Show sketch
