So I made a list of possible baby names whose popularity MAY have been influenced by Real World characters...These may have been influenced by other factors, but I only put their names on the list if I thought it was unlikely the rise in popularity was caused by something else (including natural rising/falling of trends). Next to the year is how many were born and named that name in that year. The second year of each pair is the year that was most likely to be influenced (for example, if one season premiered in the first few months of 2004, 2004 would be the most influenced year, but if it premiered at the end of 2004, 2005 would be the most influenced year). Sorry if any of that was confusing, if you're confused just ask and I'll try to explain better...but here's the list:
Declining ratings would seem to indicate this is not true. I don't agree. Jersey Shore is watched because of the spectacle of these shallow people IMO. There is a quality difference between friends getting drunk and having fun and friends getting drunk and having all this faux drama.
Another big factor is the fact that not everyone even had cable when the first Real World came out. There are more people in the demographic with access to the show now, but there are also a long list of other reality shows to compete with that are FAR worse than any of the challenges. Jersey Shore, for example, or Rock of Love. People lose hair on those shows and probably much worse, as compared to Real World or any of the challenges. It's not wholesome family entertainment, no, but it's also not at the bottom of the reality dumpster either. Not by a long shot.
Rachel and Sean were on "The View" (Dec. 14th) to talk about his political career and they now have six children. They had their youngest (18 month old baby girl) on with them. They have a beautiful family.
I just found out Melissa from the original NoLa season was on the show Girls Behaving Badly.
I know the Mormon chick from the NoLa season was also a tv correspondent for G4tv and Eric Nies was a host for a dance show on abc family back in the day.
Is there any other Real World cast members that were on other TV shows?

Danny Roberts from the first New Orleans was on one episode of Dawson's Creek and Eric Neis was also on some show on VH1 about has been celebrities trying to make a come back. While not technically a Real Worlder, Mark Long had a brief run as a morning show host on E!. I don't recall all of them (it is on the where are they now thread) but some RW alums like Steven and Trishelle from Vegas were on that Kill Reality show a few years back that was a reality show about reality stars making a movie. I have heard Issac from Sidney was on an overseas version of Big Brother.

Wasn't that a show on MTV called "The Grind"?
They used to show Real World and Road Rules reruns on a local affiliate back in like 2000-2003-ish but that stopped like after a couple weeks to a month.
So I just re-watched episode 3 of Gauntlet III. One thing I found interesting was how sad Johnny and Casey were to leave each other when he lost the Gauntlet. Earlier in the episode they had been making out. Did that ever continue after the challenge? Because I dont think they even spoke on The Ruins.
Another thing, the Veterans were very dumb so throw Johnny in the Gauntlet in the first place. Had they not seen Danny on Fresh Meat or Inferno 3? I can understand why none of them wanted to go against Eric.
I read a couple things online today that were interesting. I have a few questions regarding them.
One I read that 2 of the Real World Original Las Vegas season were originally cast in the Chicago season, and were in the house when there was a shooting outside. Cast members were given the option to leave and be in Las Vegas and two opted to leave. I was wondering which two these were. I also read that the Las Vegas cast members hooked up with members of O-Town and Incubus and this was never aired. All interesting stuff if anybody has anymroe information like this I'm sure it's an interesting read.
I thought I read in an interview one time that the shooting in Chicago happened into the season and they just put some extra security around the cast in the evenings when they would be walking on the streets.
Well what the rumor was was that it was two days into filming and 2 people opted out to go to Vegas. Then they brought in 2 more. It could be false, but interesting nonethelesss.

It says nowhere there that it happened before the cast moved in. I'm just saying waht i read on ***************************** they're pretty reliable too

That link actually indicates that the shooting took place on July 11, and filming for the Chicago season started on June 28th according to the same website.

Sorry wrong link from same site The Real Truth behind MTV's The Real World - Real World Chicago Production Problems
Indicates that they were filming exteriors. Seems to indicate that the cast was not yet moved in when the story about the shooting ran in local paper which then got people upset.

Yeah, that is strange. I wonder when they actually started filming that season then, because the site seems to contradict itself.

My guess would be the cast was preparing to move in and they were doing exteriors and finalizing pre-production when the incident happened. The paper ran the story with the address and, once the cast moved in and people started seeing production, then they got upset. Once people got upset, that was when they put extra security on them and/or somebody went home on day 1 or 2. I don't really believe the somebody traded off for Vegas instead rumor unless they completely reshot the Day 1 footage and started over from there after they left, but it is possible I guess. I really don't recall many seasons of the RW where there wern't reports of locals being upset by their presence, but this one seemed to go to a whole other level. Maybe V1man has some insights on this one.
Just out of curiosity, when the roommates are being interviewed about what happened that week, do they ask certain questions to get the response they were looking for, or do they just tell them to talk about what happened that week? I was just thinking about how if I was on the show I would not have much to say because I wouldn't be able to just remember everything that happened that week without being asked a question about something that happened.

The questions asked relate to 1) getting the cast member's perspective on what happened; 2) filling in missing sound bites needed to show continuity that the video may not show clearly or needs some introduction; and 3) creating/fostering/embellishing some aspect (real or 'fabricated only for TV). Unlike a court room, off camera producers get to ask leading questions, and the normal technique taught to all reality show cast members is to incorporate the question asked into one's answer so producers nearly always get what they want.
As someone who has done those interviews with reality show cast members for other shows, I can tell you that all the above happen, and the stuff nearly always left on the cutting room floor are the accounts of what actually happened. That is normally not the interesting stuff; i.e., truth is not necessarily good TV.
[strike]i would love it if mtv just brough everything back to basics. if they hadnt made up that new format for RR i think it would have done much better. I think they should try a season of either the original format or the one used on the quest- extreme. also if they started casting the real world the way they used to. and just scaled down the challenge and tried RR vs. RW againthat is if they could find enough RR people. maybe combine RR and FM.[/strike]

Yep, an article with Adweek said quote; "Viacom will distribute an impressive 2,000 episodes of older series, including The Chappelle Show, Reno 911, Beavis & ******** and The Real World."
So, who knows how far 2,000 episodes will take them back of the Real World (including the other shows listed), but hopefully further back than Austin (if we're lucky).
I'm concerned about the Real World it just ain't my show anymore, I only watch half a season now. It seems like this series we'll be better off throwing old cast members from past seasons in instead of brand new members.

They watch the first three or four episodes and then just lose interest/stop watching. I'm a trooper and I keep watching no matter how bad the season but that's just because I've watched since the very beginning and can't stop out of nostalgia.

Likely it is because it takes about that long to get a feel for the cast the way they edit, and by then you are bored with the most of them. Brooklyn is the last season I watched from beginning to end, and only then it was because it was on so much that I could catch it almost anytime I wanted so no effort was needed. I stopped watching Cancun when Joey went home; I stopped watching DC because Ty drama irked me to no end; stopped watching New Orleans because of either Preston or that Jimmye/Jamye girl (forget her name) both were boring, pathetic, and annoying in my opinion. Probably the only thing that really kept me watching Brooklyn was because of the dailies which I found more interesting than most of the episodes. Since then I stopped watching dailies in protest over the fact they were putting the best clips online instead on on air.
