I agree with the common opinion that the biggest mistake is Chris Nolan snubbed for best director.
Marky Mark was ROBBED!!!!
I'm surprised Andrew Garfield wasn't nominated for Supporting Actor. I didn't think he'd win, but definitely thought he'd get a nomination.
I'll really be disappointed if The Social Network wins Best Picture.
I wasn't really concerned with who was nominated for the acting categories...because if they get it right, Firth, Portman, Bale, and Leo will be walking away with those awards regardless. All I have to say is The Social Network BETTER NOT win Best Picture. It's good, yes, but nowhere near as good as The King's Speech or Inception. Period. I don't care if Facebook is a "popular trend" right now, that doesn't make Social Network the best film. Nolan got snubbed for Best Director, again. What does this man have to do to get an Oscar?

I'm rooting for Jesse Eisenberg, a home town family acquaintance.
Sadly I don't get to the movies enough so the Academy Awards are more of a netflix preview for me rather than a contest were I am pulling for a favorite. That said, the best movie I have seen in the last year was easily Inception and it is unfortunate that Nolan did not get a best director nod.
The King's Speech for Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress.

Inception won't win Best Picture for two reasons. Nolan wasn't nominated for Best Director (most analyst believe that the 5 nominees for best director are the original 5 for Best Picture). Another reason is that it's viewed as a popcorn blockbuster film. Amazing film, but still widely popular to the audience (seems like the academy likes to go against the general public). I can't wait to see all of your reactions when The Social Network wins Best Picture. I really don't understand the hate for it in this forum. I believe it is THE best movie of the year! What an inspiration/motivational movie to a generation that lives in a social networking world. P.S. Mila Kunis was ROBBED! I know she wasn't going to win the category, but deserved to be recognized! Especially over the True Grit girl -.-
The King's Speech for Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress.
I dunno...I think Melissa Leo might be one up on HBC. Colin Firth though, absolutely.
I can't wait to see all of your reactions when The Social Network wins Best Picture. I really don't understand the hate for it in this forum. I don't know as a 22 year old guy I felt a certain connection to The Social Network. It was like if I was part of it, but what I meant about inspirational/motivational is the fact that if you really want something, you have to work extremely hard, and just go for it no matter what.

I'm not disagreeing when you say if you really want something, you do have to work extremely hard and just go for it [strike]even if it means potentially stealing someone else's ideas[/strike] no matter what. But I didn't get that from the movie. I got that Mark Zuckerberg didn't give a **** what people thought of him and that he was kind of a pompous *****.
The characterization of Zuckerberg was pretty interesting. Some of the dialogue was funny. Remember that the script was based of a novel from Eduardo's point of view. That's why he comes off as the most sympathetic character.

Mila Kunis was snubbed for the Supporting Actress!! She was fabulous in black Swan. In fact, I'd say she was better than Ms. Portman. Boo!
I feel the biggest snubs were Nolan not being nominated for best director, The Town basically being nonexistent and Mark Wahlberg and Ryan Gosling both not receiving acting nods.

The Brits do it again. <3
Heh out of all the movies listed in every category there, I've only seen Toy Story 3. Ah well, at least it's a lock for Animated Film.

Omg yes Aereas! Actually changed my mind I hope Toy Story 3 could win, but that will never happen :(...I cried in that movie so much!

I loved that The Social Network one couldn't be more true (And thank goodness that fine print was true) and I really loved the Toy Story one mainly because I cried every time I saw it.
My biggest disappointment with this year's nominations is all the True Grit love. While an enjoyable movie, it still was a REMAKE!!! While I like Jeff Bridges alot, John Wayne seemed a much more natural fit for this character. And how can you be considered a "Best Actor" by simply re-doing a classic performance from the past. The girl was more likable than the original but how on earth is this a supporting role. The story is told from her perspective and she is in practically EVERY SCENE! So if you compare her to the Best Actress candidates she falls short. And the Coen's get every nom including Screenplay? For a Re-make. They tried to market this as being so different from the original, but it was almost the same damn movie.
The only one of these movies that I've even seen is Toy Story. I would like to see The King's Speech, but other than that I have no interest in any of them. The Oscars just seems so snobby about which movies are good enough...
I've only seen The Social Network and Toy Story 3, haha, I need to go to the movies more!
I was happy to see that "Restrepo" got a nomination, and with National Geographic pushing it, maybe it will win for best feature documentary. I was expecting less of the film and turned around impressed. On its face, Junger informs people what the war in Afghanistan is like, but if you think about it as you watch it, it also tells you how the war isn't at all like the way some people would have you believe. On the big categories, they nominated just about everybody but me (and my home movie Dog Chases Cat Chases Squirrel While Blue Jay Provides Aerial Support should have been a shoe in for best short). And I don't care if they gave me 1000 mafia wars reward points, I will never ever ever watch The Social Network. Facebook is the biggest time suck ever.
