Amazing Race 17: Ep. 1 - They Don't Call It the Amazing Race for Nothin'!
The 17th edition of the reality series begins in Gloucester, Mass., and the 11 teams then fly from Boston to London. The pair to finish first on the initial leg receive a surprise reward that gives them a potential game-changing advantage. Note 1: CBS has once again decided to be cheap and not film this season in HD. :( Note 2: The show is running 17 minutes late ET/CT (start time 8:47 PM.)
Is is bad that I'm looking forward to seeing that girl get hit with the watermelon again? It's a shame I couldn't see it in HD :(
I imagine HD would be a wee bit more expensive when you would have to be covering 15-20 locations at once, at least early on.
I imagine HD would be a wee bit more expensive when you would have to be covering 15-20 locations at once, at least early on.
How about Deadliest catch? They pull in about 1/4 the ratings of TAR and film in HD.
Q: How many camerapeople are on each boat? How many cameras are mounted on each boat and where are they located? A: There are two to three camera operators/producers on each boat. We have two fixed cameras mounted on the deck to capture the action at the rail, we have a camera on the captain, and then we may at any given time quick-mount another camera to capture a free-run time lapse or an angle our fixed cameras can't see. Q: How many cameras have been damaged during the course of filming the series, and how have they been ruined? A: Oh god. You should ask the accounting department. We lose almost every one of our cameras that we use out on deck. If they make it through the season, you would never want to use them again anyway. The salt and the moisture are deadly, and there's a good chance that the operator fell on the camera at least once. Do not buy a used camera from us.
So basically they go through 5 or 6 cameras per boat times 4-6 boats (depending on how many boats they rig per season + the B-Roll and exterior shot boats, + a camera crew at the coast guard station.) Let's say, they THROW AWAY at least 25-30 HD cameras a year. There is no excuse for CBS not buying a few HD cameras to film TAR...
I laugh every time I see it...
Now I'm going to laugh every time I go to the homepage. I'm going to hell for sure.
I think the difference between TAR and DC is that DC has some awesome background that is more often than not a character all its own in the series (i.e. the Bering Sea). I don't watch TAR often but the background never seems that important to the show. There are also lower end HD and those high end shoulder cameras. A lot of the footage from the mounted cameras on DC is not really that great compared to what they capture with the actual shoulder cameras IMO. Sure TAR producers could afford to do the show in HD, but I don't see how it would add to the show the way it does with DC. I know since my local news switched to HD a few years ago, I stopped watching it as regularly because HD made the anchors look like clowns and I don't take Bozo talking about a murder as seriously as I should.
Ahhh, it's not just the watermelon...every time I look at her I laugh.
Clearly you have not seen enough of the show. ;) It is entirely based on sweeping vistas of the sights, cities and sounds of far flung and exotic locations around the world. Every scenario is build upon the background in which the contestants exist in... I can't think of a show that could possibly benefit more from being in HD, that is not already in HD.
The world is waiting for you!!
I guess no coke jokes this season :(
Boooooooooooooo, Notre Dame, booooooooooooooooo.
I think the mother/daughter team seems a bit awkward. I don't like it. They definitely shouldn't have signed up for this.
Are the black best friends gay? Just wondering.
I'm thinking the majority of these teams are going to get on my last nerves this season.
Team Glee? Well, clearly that will be molds' favorite team. :D
Are the black best friends gay? Just wondering.
I'd say the odds of that being true are the same as those of the sun rising in the east and setting in the west.
I'm thinking the majority of these teams are going to get on my last nerves this season.
People get on your nerves?? No way, I will not believe this.
Team Glee? Well, clearly that will be molds' favorite team. :D
Quite the opposite, actually...
I haven't ever had to drive a left handed stick. That would be interesting! I'd probably grate the clutch as well...
Quite the opposite, actually...
I don't like Glee either. Down with Glee! Down with Glee!
So far I'm rooting for either the black guys or any F/F team other than the mother/daughter.
I don't like Glee either. Down with Glee! Down with Glee!
 No!!! Glee is awesome, unlike these guys.
I think the mother/daughter team seems a bit awkward. I don't like it. They definitely shouldn't have signed up for this.
It's awkward, but compelling at the same time.
Well,as you are the Editor in Chief, I shall not question your wisdom as the village elder BUT everytime I watch TAR it is just a bunch of people running around in circles freaking out.
But that's the funny part of the show.
I like the Asians so far. And the hot blonde girls, but thats a given.
That doesn't look too difficult at all...
Wow they are some mad British men.
That doesn't look too difficult at all...
Nah, just gross and creepy.
Team Glee is way too nice.
