Do you guys really like Twilight? That movie is so dumb. Since when were vampires not brutal and ALLERGIC to sun? Since when did they SPARKLE?! Twilight should never win an award ever again. It depresses me that Twilight will be a part of our generation's history.

Since a Mormon wrote a vampire book for tween girls.
I think I figured out why Tom Cruise decided to make a surprise appearance.
Twilighters tend to be prone to brainwashing and he figured he would have a field day recruiting them into Scientology.
Loved the fact that Anna Kendrick won Best Breakthrough for "Up in the Air". Also loved seeing Ken Jeong winning Best *** Moment. Those are really the only two awards that I can say went to the ones who deserved it.
Me too!
The other segment I enjoyed was the Sandra Bullock one.
I liked the show. My only complaint is Twilight winning everything. Personally, I think the acting in those movies is horrible...
They are really bad actors! And thats just from watching the trailers.

I somewhat agree. I enjoy the books but the movies....
Enjoy the books?
I think Smeyer's writing is god awful.
The fact that these books are so popular shows how poorly cultured Young Americans are.
If any of you had the same English teacher I had to explain it, you would be shocked at how awful the quality of the writing is to be so popular.
Maybe that is why there are so many haters.
OK I just caught the first 15 minutes of this (because nothing else is on for another hour).
The fact that Kristen Stewart won any award for acting, let alone an award for best female performance, AND an award over someone who won the ******* Oscar for best female performance is absurd.
This show is pointless. Who votes for this crap?

I'm gonna go with Twilight fans, specifically tween girl Twilight fans, since that is pretty much the only movie that won anything. At least Anna Kendrick won something, granted it was because the voters knew her and voted for her because of her role in Twilight not the movie nominated but I'll take it.

Aw, you just ruined it for me. I had no idea she was in Twilight. That's unfortunate.

She plays one of the Bella's high school friends, she's really not in it that much.

But aren't the Oscars pointless too? Winning an MTV award is probably more likely to garner you more viewers/ratings in the demo than winning an Oscar these days.

Uh...no.
She plays one of the Bella's high school friends, she's really not in it that much.
Yeah I thought that was her. She's one one of the friends who Bella went to town with looking for a prom dress and was trying to find a date to the prom, right?

LOL.

I definetly agree with this. And I think nothing but tween girls are voting.
Kristen Stewart scares me. I had a thing for her when she was in The Messengers, but now she kind of reminds me a vampire. She always has a sour look on her face. And the acting is not great in Twilight its either someone crying, groaning, yelling or taking off their shirt.
Lol don't tell me you're one of those people who goes out of their way to watch movies just because they won an Oscar Molds ^_^
I watched Slumdog after it won just to see what the hype was about, and I wasn't really that impressed. So for me, Oscar ≠ important.

No, not at all actually. Out of the major nominations this year I had only seen Meryl Streep in Julie and Julia and Up...
While the Oscars are not perfect with all their nominations and winners they are still about the best barometer we have for quality in movies.
You can bet it will be a twilite free event for the next 3 years so that alone makes it watchable.
As for seeing a movie "to see what all the hype is about" is a recipe for being disappointed. That's usually the case for me. I saw slumdog before the hype and thought it deserved the Oscar.
Actually the mainstream media has been abuzz in recent years about how outdated the Oscars are... it's a select group of people with specific tastes picking movies possibly based on behind-the-scenes lobbying for an award that really doesn't hold a lot of distinction anymore...
MTV awards are a much better gauge for how the "general public" receive a movie, and my tastes fall in line with those people more than they do the movie snobs, so it's a much better representation of movies I would likely enjoy.
While AA nominations/wins do serve to make actors more marketable, they don't really do a whole lot for movies. MTV awards by contrast mean that movie probably made a ton of money, which is really the only important thing for the suits anyway.

Agreed. I also saw Slumdog in theaters and thought it was deserving of the Oscar. I saw No Country for Old Men after the awards ceremony and was kind of bored with it...
With the exception of Hurt Locker, I've seen all of the Best Picture winners in the last 10 years or so (either before or after the Oscars) and have thought (for the most part) they were all good movies.
On the other hand, I am not absolutely dying to see Twilight, or Avatar, or Dear John, I didn't think Alice in Wonderland was amazing, and Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince was probably my least favorite HP movie to date.
Slumdog's win was considered controversial in part because it was a strong year for films and there were some really great ones nominated. Hurt Locker was an above average film in a weak year, and might not even have been nominated in 2009.
I'm part of the crowd who will always think Dark Knight should have won BP in 2009, and it's a travesty the film wasn't even nominated.
I'm fine with Hurt Locker winning, I enjoyed the movie more than I did Slumdog although I didn't think Slumdog was terrible. Of the rest I've seen from the 2009 class, Avatar is meh for me and Inglorious ******** will remain a favorite for years to come.
Back on topic, looking at the nominations and winners for the MTV BP award for the last 10 years paints an interesting picture. Comic book movies get the nod pretty easily, but end up doing horribly in voting. Unless the voting trend has changed very recently, it's hard to believe it is all tween girl voters when Transformers won in 2008 and Wedding Crashers (!!) won in 2006.
I couldn't find any info on how MTV runs the voting process, but some other shows have had some very different results depending on whether multiple unlimited votes are allowed per household/computer and when the number of votes is capped. Completely uninformed here but I'm guessing teenagers (boys or girls) have more time and inclination to vote more times/longer than other age groups which would definitely skew the votes if unlimited voting is allowed.
I can totally understand a moviegoer preferring the blockbuster type movies over the typical Oscar nominees, especially at a younger age. But if u think the MTV movie awards represent "the general public" well then you must not have read this thread.
Let's take a look: this years winner was twilight saga new moon. (yes broken hearted teen is enough to call movies a saga these days I guess) New moonie scored an impressive 27% on rotten tomatoes.
Best male performance nominees: R patz and Taylor Laupner for new moon, Channing Tatum for dear John (29%) and defending his big win last year for High School Musical 3 (rofl) is Zac Efron, this time for 17 Again - such an original plot in that movie.
Now does this represent the general publics opinion of the best male performances?
MTV awards has now been reduced to The Teen Girls Choice Awards.
It's a pity because it was once a cool award show that well represented non Oscar type movies.
