The 49ers division is weak this year. They should have no problem staying in the hunt for the playoffs as they are medicore.
The Cardinals are stronger than people realize. We opened up some cap space, got rid of 2 people who were not worth their weight anymore (Boldin & LaBoy), had 1 leave for more money (Dansby) and another leave for the same money we offered but in a different city (Antrel Rolle). The thing about the 49ers this year is that the have more picks in the draft than most teams including 2 in the 1st round.

Plus Dansby and Rolle will be hard to replace. But the rest of their division is weak as well. The 49ers improved last year but can they do it again this year. The seahawks are pretty bad, the have an old qb with injury problems and Pete Carrol is their head coach so they probably wont be any good this year. And the rams have just as many problems as my Lions do so they are a mess. It will be the Cardinals and 49ers fighting for the division.

At this point I would make a better QB than Smith!
Nothing new about us fighting vs the 49ers. True, we lost Warner to retirement but Leinart is in a make-or-break year and he was behind Warner for 2.5 years. If our coach says he has it, then he does. Whisenhunt does not mince words about someone if they fail the team. The question truly is whether Leinart knows he has it on the field and this is his last year under contract.
I just have a hard time believing that if the 49ers play anywhere nere medicore get 9-7 or 8-8 they will the division. They have allot of defensive players returning and unlike the cardinals who get worse in offseason Dansby will be the biggest defensive loss. Boldin can still play and now that Kurt Warner isn't their Matt Lienart could have used him. They got better the 49ers they picked up ted Ginn who should help as a number 2 reciever and who knows in their system maybe David Carr will start.
Dansby was the biggest loss. But Boldin is not as big a loss as you think. We've still Doucet, Breaston, and of course Fitzgerald. The other thing is without Warner around and the maturing of our running game, you can expect a more balanced attack now. Beanie Wells has already runover people this past year. The Cardinals only lost 3 defensive players: Dansby (Miami), Rolle (Jets, even though we offered the same amount of money), and LaBoy (overpaid for little production & now a 49er). We'll improve in the draft, with the aid of John Lott, and we'll be more aggressive.

He will help in the return game but is not a reliable reciever by any means. The dolphins are my second favorite team and im so glad they got rid of him and all his drops.
Ginn not being a huge pick up. Really have you seen the 49er's receiving core? He definately is an upgrade and at such a late round pick it was a no lose situation for the 49er's.

Vernon Davis finally lived up to his potential last year. Josh Morgan had a solid year last year and will keep getting better. And Frank Gore can catch out of the backfield. Ginn's only good attribute is that he is fast, thats it. He has 38 catches for 454 yards and 1 touchdown last year. Morgan had 52 catches for 527 yards and 3 tds last year. So at best Ginn will be their 3rd receiver. I agree they got him for a cheap price only giving up a 5th round pick for a guy who was a top ten pick. But the Dolphins reached way to high to pick him and they realized it.

Crabtree deserves to flop ... permanently
I am pretty happy with the lions 2 draft picks last night. Suh fills a huge need we have had for a while and i think he will be really good. I was suprised that we traded back into the 1st round and took a running back but we needed one. Jahvid Best has tons of play making potential if he stays healthy. Im really happy Brandon Graham got drafted at 13. He deserves it, he was the only player on michigans defense the last 2 years that busted his a** on every play. As bad as Michigan has been the last 2 years, we still had the first player drafted from the big 10. Im glad Jimmy Clausen slid out of the first round and Tebow got picked ahead of him. Mel Kiper acts like Clausen is the best qb is this years draft. he isnt even as good as Brady Quinn and he has really worked out in the nfl.
I was disapointed that Dez Bryant fell so far he is a really good wide reciever who I think is better then MIcheal Crabtree but he should do well in Dallas. I can't believe that Colt Mccoy didn't get drafted in the first round.
I'm glad the Cardinals went D right off and will probably continue tonight. Dan Williams is 6'2" & 329 lbs. The guy is a beast. John Lott will get him down to 300 probably and improve his conditioning. With him next to Darnell Dockett, our D line just became truly fearsome! I'm hoping we grab at least 1 CB and a OLB/DE like Sergio Kindle in the 2nd rd

I do think alot of teams will be sorry they passed on him though he is going to be a pro-bowl receiver. Im suprised that Mccoy wasnt drafted as well. Personally i would rather have him than Bradford but thats just me. He will be drafted early in the second round by either the browns, bills or possibly the raiders. I hope he goes before Clausen.
Yeah, I heard that the Panthers were interested but I'm thinking the Bills should pick him up. Personally I had told allot of people I knew that I would have picked Mccoy over Bradford especially that he didn't just come off a major surgery. That he will picked quite a bit farther back then tebow and that he is more polished is just a shame.
Sam Bradford...great guy. Shouldn't have been #1.
I was VERY pleased with the Chiefs taking Eric Berry... We can definitely use someone like him.
I was VERY pleased with the Chiefs taking Eric Berry... We can definitely use someone like him.
That made me very sad... But I can see why my team didn't press hard to pick up a safety in r1 because they all had their potential issues. So far both picks are solid is unexciting.
Apparently Carolina is in the market for opening a petting zoo for the little ones on game day.
I'm completely mistified by were Clausen fell to in the mid 40's, really the bills didn't draft him and Colt mccoy was even a bigger shocker at 85 he was drafted this is just sad.

He did fall to a team where he will have a chance to be good, but i still think he will be a bust. But i cant believe Mccoy fell so far, but in a couple years he will be a solid starter.
Claussen actually didn't shock me as bad I just thought he was definately going to be picked by the Bills as they need a quarterback. Though colt is much better then where he got drafted and getting picked up by the quarterback wasteland must really suck.
Colt was the only pick I wanted my team to lock down so I'm really excited about that. I don't think it's a shock at all that QBs are slipping down draft boards; making an early pick at that position that ends up being a bust sets you back years and years and years and years (as is the case of every QB we have had since Kozar).

Sweet! Mesko to the Pats. First punter taken! He'll be starting right away.
Sweet! Mesko to the Pats. First punter taken! He'll be starting right away.
Yeah im happy for him, he is a great punter. I was hoping the lions would get him. Im kinda suprised Stevie Brown got drafted. I cant believe Donavon Warren went undrafted. I thought he would go in the 4th or 5th round. He should have stayed in school.
