OH MY GOSH YOU GUYS!! Figure skating was amazing! :D The crowd went crazy when Evan won, especially after Daisuke and Johnny got way jipped compared to the ridiculously high score they gave Patrick Chan. 6th place for Johnny Weir? Really judges?
But USA WON and it was crazy! You could totally tell Evgeni was p.o.'d but I think it was a well deserved win by Evan, he truly put out a great well rounded program. Even though Evgeni hit the quad (literally right in front to me :)) there still seemed to be something lacking in the end.
I'll post the ridiculous amount of pics we took later tonight or tomorrow. We even video taped the medal ceremony.
Hockey was crazy too, way too close for my comfort but USA pulled ahead in the end. We ended up being right next to the NBC suite so I could literally lean over the rail and be in the shot for the commentators! Kessel was amazing as always but the Norway goalie, even though he let 6 goals through, really played a good game and made some crazy saves.
Great Olympic day all around! Pictures later!
I know this is what you guys have been waiting for so I won't hold it back any longer! I bring you...

the Johnny Weir EXTRAVAGANZA!!!! :D
Okay, okay. Here is an ALBUM of most of my Vancouver pics. Hope you enjoy them! Sadly no Bode Miller because I couldn't get up to Whistler and I didn't see Nastia Lukin last night, she wasn't sitting with Evan's family from what I could tell. So no pics of them, sorry.
It's mostly of the flame, the city, USA v Norway men's hockey game, men's final figure skating and a few random pics.
Edit: I can post more pics directly in the forum if you want, but I didn't want to overload it with tons of pics so I just put the link.
Awesome pics tots!
Well, it looks like the [strike]Detroit Red Wings[/strike] Swedish hockey team is doing fairly well. It's weird seeing Lidstrom in yellow though!!
We are still racking up the medals!
Canadian Olympic officials went about lowering expectations today.
I guess "own the podium" is dead...
I'm all for Canada doing well, and I cheer for them right after the US when it comes to the events, but I'm happy that my country is exceeding expectations. It is hard to believe that we've only been a real force at the Olympics since 2002. Clearly the plan to enhance US Winter Sports for our home based games was a linchpin in long term success.
Edit: Oh, and I feel sorry for the skip of the Men's Curling team, but he had to be replaced. :(
Anyone been reading the controversy about the British press slamming the Vancouver Olympics?
Has any one even seen anyone from Britian at the Olympics yet? I sure as **** haven't, lol.
Addendum:
This is the incident I heard mentioned by a Canadian official to kind of defect away from the few issues that they have had at the Olympics.
The Olympic Torch Becomes a Korean BBQ
The 1988 Seoul Olympics opening ceremonies started out smoothly, with South Korea's President Roh Tae Woo officially opening the Games, the raising of the Olympic flag, and the playing of the Olympic hymn. The customary release of doves went off without a hitch, and the crowd's excitement grew as former Korean Olympians ran into the stadium to finish the torch relay.
Things got less picturesque, though, when the final members of the relay team ascended the hundred-foot torch cauldron by riding an elevating platform. When they reached the top, it became clear that several of the doves had acted like doves when they'd been released: they flew around for a bit before a nice high place to perch. Instead of being frightened by the cauldron lighting team, the birds seemed to just eye them curiously. Bad move. When the relay torches hit the cauldron, it went up in flames, taking a fair number of doves with it. Organizers discontinued the dove release following this incident.

Yeah, they have been talking allot about in Canada. They showed some of the articles claiming that is was a disaster. The people discussing it were saying that they were critical because they were hosting the next olympics.
The people discussing it were saying that they were critical because they were hosting the next olympics.
I have no doubt that is why. There is not much of the same type of disdain being levied in the US press.
Most of the problems are because of the weather and what can anyone really do about that?
Sure, there are always hitches when hosting such a massive event, but overall as an outside observer I think things are going well.

There's been a lot of talk that the skip for the women's curling team is hot...that's all I got.

Haha, ya - I've been hearing that too.
Blah, Blah, Blah....I'm really enjoying the prime time coverage of The Vancouver [strike]Figure Skating/Ice Dancing Championship[/strike] Olympics, but could we please move on to Alpine? Pretty please NBC? It is not like we don't already know the results...

But there's the [strike]people who are absolutely out of their gosh darn minds[/strike] skeleton finals tonight!! :D

Well, I want to watch that too.
I just zone out with competitively judged events where time, score or distance are not factors...
Edit: I take that back. I'll watch diving during the summer games. I'm against all events where there is superfluous classical-esque music. ;)
The agony of defeat!
I don't know what's worse...training for 4 long years to wipe out 50 feet from the end, or training for 4 long years to wipe out 50 feet from the start.
On another note, I do like the celebrity British Columbia commercial. Shows a really beautiful side to Vancouver.
An article I enjoyed: America's Surprise Vancouver Olympics Rout - WSJ.com
(Although, I think the title is a bit overboard being we are not even half way though the games with the Canadians having their strongest events on the back-end.)

That was a good article. But I'll wait until the Games are over to start gloating :D
That was a good article. But I'll wait until the Games are over to start gloating
No need to gloat, but 20 medals in an Olympics is a great accomplishment for an American squad. Even if they ended today. So, if we finish 2nd or 3rd overall - that is how the cookie will crumble, but I am really proud of the athletes that have made their country proud. Especially in sports where no one thought we had a chance (e.g. Super-G, Nordic Combined.)
And in the sports we were supposed to medal in, we took two! Which is why we have been able to put up an impressive medal count thus far.
I read this article, but don't quite understand how they pick what flowers they're going to use.
Ooooh, drama rama on Helmetgate 2010...
In my opinion, if your helmet sucks - get a better one. It is not like they are heating the blades *cough* East Germany *cough*
I'm happy for GB. They've won their first individual winter gold in 30 years. I guess that means they are free to whine about the games now? They are relevant? ;)
