Eleven Teams start off by navigating through the congested streets of Los Angeles and, for the first time ever, must rely solely on public transportation to make their way to LAX.
Forget roadblocks, that is the most daunting and annoying task contestants will face this season!
Forget roadblocks, that is the most daunting and annoying task contestants will face this season!
Hahaha I thought about that too, but they are like 2 blocks from Union Station. So it's really not that difficult. Plus it all depends on the time...if they left in the morning, going S on the 110 would be a breeze. N on the other hand? Not so much. I blame it on USC :D

I blame it on USC :D
I thought they were pretty close to Union Station and that would definitely be the easiest/fastest way, I just wonder if they were given info on how to do it or if they have to figure it out themselves/ask people. I remember my freshman year at SC I had friends coming out to visit me. I didn't have a car then and I was going to meet them at the airport and the express bus from Union to LAX wasn't in operation yet. If I had taken the normal bus route it would have taken me over 2 HOURS to go from USC to LAX!! And that was just the estimate not including traffic time. How ridiculous is that? Thank goodness I had friends with cars.
Judging from the promos, the start line is not Disney Concert Hall. RFF says that it looks to be Vista Hermosa Natural Park, and they seem to be right. Perhaps they head to Disney Concert Hall from there? Not sure.
amazing Race 1 they had to rely on public transportation to get to JFK from Central Park. Ugg its so annoying when i read mistakes like that!
amazing Race 1 they had to rely on public transportation to get to JFK from Central Park. Ugg its so annoying when i read mistakes like that!
Read mistakes like what?
Final 3 appears to be: Brent & Caitlin Jet & Cord Carol & Brandy Mike & Louie speculated to be 4th place Dan & Jordan speculated to be 5th place Steve & Allie speculated to be 6th place
Read mistakes like what?
Like this: " for the first time ever, must rely solely on public transportation to make their way to LAX". Well i guess it is the first time they did that to LAX. But i think they really meant from starting line to airport. Looking back Amazing Race 6 also used public transport to the airport.
BVM said this "or the first time, when the teams departed "The Amazing Race" starting line, they had to rely solely on public transportation - no rental cars, no taxis - to make their way from downtown Los Angeles to the airport, a world-class challenge in itself" For some reason taxi's are not public transportation? But i guess his old age is getting to him cause he forgot about Amazing Race 6 where teams all had to take trains to the Chicago Airport. And he obviously forgot about Paul and Amie, and Matt and Ana getting lost in the NYC subway system in Season 1. Why does this show continually start in Los Angles. Having been there it was one of the worst places i have ever been to in my entire life. But then again trying to see anything near the Kodak Theater the day after Michael Jackson died I guess was bad timing on my part.

But then again trying to see anything near the Kodak Theater the day after Michael Jackson died I guess was bad timing on my part.
Haha, yes definitely bad timing. I think he meant first time using public transportation to get to LAX, not just to an airport. It is quite a challenge. Chicago has the El, NYC has the subway. Those are both, if you use them correctly, "easy" ways to get to the airport. LAX has nothing like that. Union Station is really kind of a joke compared to other major cities.
After checking out the promos, it seems as though CBS has given some hints as to where the pairs will be going. They show the Sphinx in Egypt. So that's a possibility. They also show the Flugtag, normally sponsored by Red Bull. Not sure as to where that would be though, since they've been held in a few different cities. They also have given away Liverpool and France, according to this article.
Jeff Schroeder, 31, is a salesman from Norridge, Ill. Jordan Lloyd, 22, is a receptionist from Charlotte, N.C. Few thought the relationship would survive outside the “Big Brother” house; now the question is whether it will survive a race around the world, including a first stop in Chile and later challenges including the reenactment of a World War I battle in France and a Beatles-centric puzzle in Liverpool, England.
My friend said that she saw them In Germany.. She likes to thinks she is cool and lie sometimes so I didn't take her too serious.
My friend said that she saw them In Germany.. She likes to thinks she is cool and lie sometimes so I didn't take her too serious.
It was speculated that Hamburg, Germany was the stop after Argentina, but they don't really have any actual proof. But it's still a possibility.
The destination map has been updated a bit at RFF. Ep 1. Los Angeles --> Valparaiso, Chile Ep 2. Valparaiso, Chile --> Puerto Varas, Chile Ep 3. Puerto Varas, Chile --> Bariloche, Argentina Ep 4. Bariloche, Argentina --> Liverpool, England or Hamburg, Germany Ep 7. France --> Seychelles Ep 8. Seychelles --> Penang, Malaysia Ep 9. Penang, Malaysia --> Singapore Ep 10. Singapore --> Shanghai, China Ep 11. Shanghai, China --> San Francisco
Final 3 appears to be: Brent & Caitlin Jet & Cord Carol & Brandy Mike & Louie speculated to be 4th place Dan & Jordan speculated to be 5th place Steve & Allie speculated to be 6th place
RFF has the top 3 listed as Brent/Caitlin, Jet/Cord, and Dan/Jordan. They also have Mike/Louie listed as 4th.
Episode 1 is titled Nanna is Kickin' Your Butt.
Thanks to the CBS press photos:
Newly dating couple Jordan and Jeff must perform a Road Block in Valparaiso, Chile in which one team member must cross a tight rope the length of a football field and 120 feet above rooftops, in order to receive their next clue on THE AMAZING RACE, premiering Sunday, Feb. 14
And Dana, Dan, Shawne, Allie, Brandy, and Louis do the Road Block for their team. Also, thanks to someone at RFF for the EXIF data: Joe & Heidi are running to the Roadblock at around 9:30. Monique & Shawne, Dan & Jordan, Steve & Allie, and Jeff & Jordan are all at the Roadblock at about 9:45. Louie & Michael are at the Roadblock at about 10:00. Adrian & Dana are at the Roadblock at about 2:30.

Oh boy...any bets on which team?
"Nanna is Kickin' Your Butt" - Eleven Teams depart Los Angeles for Chile, where Racers find themselves dangling 120 feet in the air, battling exhaustion and their fear of heights in order to stay alive in the game, and one Team discovers that Brazilian currency will not get them very far in Chile, on the season premiere of THE AMAZING RACE, Sunday, Feb. 14 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Phil Keoghan is host.
Interesting. Titles for episode 2 and 3: "When the Cow Kicked Me in the Head" (Chile) "Run Like Scalded Dogs!" (Argentina)
Got this from RFF. This is from the LA Times (and explains which team exchanges the wrong currency, as well as other problems some of the teams have):
Still debating about whether or not to join Phil and friends for another race around the world? Here are five reasons why you must tune in on Sunday. Mapquest: Yes, it's sad but true that this cycle's batch of contestants seem to have either been sleeping through class or didn't bother to turn up at all. (Or the educational system is even worse off than we thought.) Twenty-year-old Caite Upton, best known as the former Miss South Carolina in the Miss Teen USA pageant, says that she wants to overcome the embarrassing flub she made during the 2007 pageant when she stated that "I believe that our, uh, education like such as, uh, South Africa and, uh, the Iraq, everywhere like such as ... " (The response was to a question about maps.) Putting aside maps, she and her partner, fellow model Brent Horne, have trouble in the first leg simply reading and following the clues appropriately and fail to realize that they've made a major error on their first day. Meanwhile, former "Big Brother" contestants Jordan Lloyd and Jeff Schroeder have their own problems to contend with as Jordan seems to have never heard of the country Chile and repeatedly — to Jeff and even to airline counter personnel — refers to the South American country as "China." (Wow.) Clueless contestants: It doesn't stop there. Brothers/cowboys Jet and Cord McCoy (yes, these are their real names) exchange money at LAX ... for Brazilian currency, believing it to be the "closest" to Chilean money. And one team — I'm not saying which one — mistakenly begin to paint the inside of someone's home when they fail to pay attention to their clue, much to the amusement of the professional construction workers and painters inside attempting to renovate this home. Texas Hold'Em: I haven't been able to stop chuckling over the aforementioned cowboy brothers Jet and Cord. Despite their inability to select the proper currency for Chile, they have a true Texas cowboy approach to just about everything in life. Even when faced with setbacks, these two have an aw-shucks reaction that's infinitely as amusing as it is sweet. Even when climbing across cables 150 feet above Santiago, their gentlemanly nature can't help but shine through as they make small talk with fellow contestants. I'm curious to see if behind their dimpled exterior lies the beating hearts of true competitors. Exotic locations: The first leg of this cycle takes the racers to such exotic locations as Santiago, Chile, and the oft-rumored-but-rarely-seen Los Angeles subway system, as teams must find their own way to LAX using public transportation, much to the shock and horror of several contestants, including Angelenos Carol Rosenfeld and Brandy Snow. While some opt for the flyaway from Union Station, others attempt to take the subway. In both cases, they are proof positive as to why Angelenos love their cars so darn much. Iron-pumping granny: Yes, there is an actual triathalon-running, iron-pumping grandmother in the race this season. Meet 71-year-old Jody Kelly, who is racing with her granddaughter Shannon Foster. Among her goals, Jody lists, "Finish a half Ironman triathlon. Finish a full marathon. Publish another book. Motivate people to become active. Climb more Colorado mountains. Walk the Appalachian Trail. Go trekking in Norway. Bicycle through the Netherlands. Develop a TV show featuring elderly athletes." At a time when more and more people are leaning toward non-active lifestyles, Jody's grit and determination to outdo people 50 years younger is refreshing and inspirational. While I'd be surprised if this team lasts in the race more than a few legs, I have to say that I'm extremely impressed by her spirit and can-do attitude about tackling anything that the race throws her way. After all, she is the oldest person to ever participate in "The Amazing Race."
And here's another one with more spoilers:
Beauty queen bungles 'Amazing Race' debut (AP) — LOS ANGELES - Caite Upton is already not following directions on "The Amazing Race." The former Miss Teen South Carolina, who famously flubbed a 2007 pageant question involving maps, and her boyfriend, Brent Horne, were in the front of the pack on the CBS reality series' 16th season premiere Sunday, but they didn't heed instructions to ride a funicular train and received a 30-minute penalty, dropping them from second to seventh place. Ultimately, married high school sweethearts Adrian and Dana Davis were the first team eliminated. Husky husband Adrian twice attempted the Roadblock challenge, which required contestants to scale a tight rope, but he tumbled both times, which allowed the 10 other teams to pass them on the race's first leg.
Wow, I didn't know China and Chile sounded similar.
RFF has deduced that the team that's U-Turned tonight is either Steve and Allie or Joe and Heidi. They are leaning more toward Joe and Heidi.
No episode tonight, thanks to the CMA's. So...interesting spoiler for next week's Shanghai episode, thanks to CBS:
When teams face two roadblocks in a single leg for the first time ever, two teams discover just how costly cab rides can be.
Non-elimination leg, perhaps?
