The new season of American Idol will start tomorrow on fox at 8 EST with a 2 hour season premiere.
I say every year that I will not watch, but I always get sucked backed in.
It's official!
Cowell and top Fox executives made the announcement to reporters in Pasadena at a meeting of the Television Critics Association, saying they had reached an agreement only a few hours before.
“I was offered a lot of money to stay on,” Cowell said. “But that wasn’t the reason behind it. I wanted to do something different. I wanted a new challenge.”
Cowell said he didn’t want to leave “American Idol” at a time when it was fading in the ratings.
“You want to leave on a high,” he said. “I’m very proud of what the show has achieved.”
1st Paula
Now Simon
Is American Idol doomed?
He has been saying this for months. He just doesn't have time since X Factor is supposed to come to the United States. Also did anyone here who will replace the hoff? Yeah, it's Howie Mandel this is just sad to me.

It wasn't official till a few hours ago. Many people have been saying stuff. This is the first time he came out with it.

The closest person to Simon that was saying it was his brother. The one who is on the radio.
No I put that he was replace "the hoff" who happens to be David Hassellhoff which is unrelated to American Idol. it's a show just like america Idol besides the age limit. David`s battle with Alcohol they needed a replacement which happened to be Howie Mandell. I put it in my statement because as it`s a show produced Simon I thought it would be best put here. Also he is on Britian`s Got Talent which is a reason why he has to leave, he is just that busy.
A girl is likely going to win since that is who TPTB seem to want to win. I hope I am wrong but I expect the final 24 to be stacked with guys that do not pose a strong threat to the girls. I hope I am wrong and the best actually go through. They actually started hollywood rounds yesterday, so I am definitely intrigued as to what auditions they show as they do not know as of yet who will be in the top 24.
I'm going to watch the first few episodes, just because nothing else is on, and I only watch because of Simon. I have no interest in watching next season, being he is the entire point of the show (in my honest opinion.) I don't watch for the singing, I watch for the insults and the thing he does with his eyes when I real loser steps to the plate. ;)
I'm still not sure if I'll watch this year. I am really going to miss Paula!
Yes, losing Paula sucks. Who is Simon going to patronize now? Who is going to show up half in the bag, going on about inane things while showcasing an incoherent rambling demeanor? It just won't be the same with Ellen...
I'm right there with you Bacchus. I can't stand Ryan, Randy or this Kara chick so really what is left for me once Simon is gone. He is the voice of reason!
I love Ellen, but if her judging is anything like it was on her guest stint with SYTYCD I would quickly become annoyed with her. Loving everyone and crying after every song is only good when you got some crazy to go along with it.
Truthfully though, I haven't really watched past the audition episodes in quite some time. It lost it's luster for me after the 1st season and Ryan was just too much for me once he had sole hosting responsibilities that Simon wasn't even enough to get me to watch weekly.

It has to be a serious challenge for the show's casting directors to find someone that bad, who is that diluted about their vocal talents - yet they seem to find them every week!
I actually liked Posh way more than Kara. I really can't stand her. I even think she went too far with annoyed glasses guy. Making comments that she was surprised he had a girlfriend or something, yeah way to stay classy wanna be bikini lady that wrote a horrible Idol finale song.
At least we have Kristin Chenoweth and NPH to look forward to as guest judges :)
There were some good singers though so way to represent Boston auditions! I was also really excited when they showed the snippet of the group of guys practicing in the waiting room singing to Matt Nathanson. I love him and he is a hometown boy so it was nice to see him getting some love on AI.

I was quite surprised with Posh, maybe because this is the first time I have ever seen her speak;)
I had no idea those 2 were gonna be judges, now I am pumped!
The girl who sang "At Last" was great, so was the hippie guy!

I had the misfortune of watching her reality special on NBC...
Victoria Beckham? Eh. I'd rather look at her husband.
I would rather do other things that just look at to him...oh man...the things going through my mind right now are SO not vevmo appropriate, LOL.
I really liked the hippie guy and the 16 year old portugese girl as well LM...althoguh I can't wait for makeovers, LOL.

I loved them both too!! I only caught the last hour so I don't know what happened then.

I was a little 10 year old boy when spice girls came out. I had the biggest crush! lol..
Ok...there better be someone that blows me away today or I'm putting this show on ice. There were a few good singers from Boston, but I didn't see the winner there...

I remember when Kelly C auditioned though and I didn't see a winner. I saw a cute country girl with a good voice, but not the first Idol winner.
I think the contestants really come into their own after singing once or twice more and get more comfortable. Plus a little back up music doesn't help either. I'm more of a fan of the auditions than the actual show though so I'll stick with it until they are through at least.
I really don't know how they expect Idol to survive on the backs of Randy/Ryan/Kara/Ellen. I think even the first auditions in Boston just proved the point that Simon is Idol now that we see the dynamic without Paula.
