I think Natalie has almost acted as an extension of Russell. He really isn't that great at the social game and getting on people's good side. Yeah he may get them to trust him, but then he burns people and rubs it in their face, not a great way to get their vote. Like Russell said once, Natalie does her thing, gets in good with the girls, gets people to trust her and Foa Foa and in the end it helps him get what he wants.
I don't think any of the big moves have been part of her master plan. It's like he knows he can't be buddy buddy with people so he aligns himself with the girls from the beginning, gets them on his side and has them be the friendly ones to help switch people to vote how he wants and keep his plan moving.
I don't think Nat's dumb, but I don't think she is a genius. I think she saw a person that could get her far in Russell and work the strategic angle that she knew she wasn't good at, just as Russell saw a sweet girl that people liked and that he could trust in her. Like she said last night, two minds are better than one. They each have their strong points, just different parts to a game.
I think that it's more important what she hasn't done. Which will make her a better canditate to recieve votes in the finally. As well Brett seems like one of those people you just root for, if he were to make the finale he would get almost every vote because honestly who wouldn't want to see him with the money. As opposed to the guy bragging around camp that he made millions of dollars last year.

Hey everybody, let’s get right into it…
ANATOMY OF A REWARD CHALLENGE
Long before the Survivors participate in a challenge it has already gone through an extensive testing process. It begins with a “test block” where our dreamteamers do a light run-through of the challenge so we can see how it’s coming along.
When we did the first test block for last night’s “Coconut Drop” reward challenge it was rough. We all agreed that it was a brilliant and inventive challenge but it wasn’t quite right. So we gave some notes and our art department made some changes and we tested it again. Technically it was working much better but it was still taking a long time to complete.
We debated reducing the number of coconuts so that it would play faster. But John Kirhoffer and Dan Munday, the geniuses who created the challenge, reminded us that if we reduced the coconuts the challenge would lose a lot of impact. The only way to change the challenge would be to completely redesign it. Well, this was a challenge that had already taken a couple of weeks to design and construct, so the idea of starting over was out of the question. We went ahead with the challenge as planned and it played beautifully. There was great drama and some character revealing moments surrounding Natalie and religion and Shambo and her hair. So, on that front it was a hit. But it took nearly four hours to complete. Four hours… and that’s simply too long.
To give context, not counting endurance challenges which are in their own category, the average challenge takes 15 minutes to run. The reason four hours is too long is that it affects everything else on the schedule. Because we’re behind, the reward itself is now delayed and could result in us having less time on the reward than we desire. The losing team of Survivors who are returning to camp have less daylight for us to shoot reality and conduct interviews. It’s a domino effect. If we have a tribal council that night, we might have to go later than normal and that means our crews are working longer days than we anticipated and then you have to get up the next day to do it all again and you’re already behind. You get the point.
The good news is that this rarely happens. I’m talking maybe once every other season. That’s how good our challenge guys are at designing these contests. They really know their stuff.
WHY WE DO TEAM REWARDS DURING THE INDIVIDUAL PORTION OF THE GAME
There is a specific reason that we will often run a “team” challenge during the individual portion of the game and that is because we want to continue to mix things up and cause conflict. When you send only three people on a reward and the other three are left behind you have a very good chance of a new alliance forming or somebody sharing information that will turn the game around.
The reason it works is because people are often either desperate and/or suspicious, as they should be, and they use this opportunity to do a little detective work or to stir things up. Survivor is so much easier to play from the confines of your living room, much more difficult to actually be “in” the game where every decision is a potential million dollar choice or mistake.
You saw it happen at the reward challenge where Russell, Jaison, and Shambo started investigating Natalie’s decision to choose Brett as her teammate. That simple little discussion could change the game 180 degrees. That’s all it takes for a month-long alliance to come crumbling down. Or if you’re Russell it’s merely another opportunity to capitalize on everybody else’s paranoia and move one step closer to the end.

BRETT IS AN ISLAND
There was no hiding that the Foa Foa four wanted to get rid of Brett. They talked about it at every challenge and at tribal council. It was quite refreshing to not have them pretend that “maybe Brett has a shot to stay.” Anything can happen but if Brett loses an immunity challenge he will be in serious trouble. If Brett makes it to the final, short of a total meltdown, I think he wins the million dollars.
IMMUNITY CHALLENGE
This challenge was the prototype for a Survivor challenge. It looks simple, you can play it at home, but after a 36 days of playing Survivor, merely counting pigs can drive you insane.
There were lots of different strategies going on. I stayed back in the counting area so I could monitor everything. Russell would memorize a couple of numbers and head out. Brett had a different strategy. He stayed for a long time, storing many numbers in his head, never panicking. I love watching challenges play out in front of me, knowing the decisions the Survivors are making are often do or die. Clearly for Brett, it paid off.

THE MULLET IS GONE
Well, there is no hiding my sadness that Shambo is gone. She was loved by some and despised by others, but from my little perch she was a great Survivor contestant. She had a point of view and she shared it openly. She had a sense of humor about herself, she was a pretty good player and without question Shambo was memorable.
I can tell you right now that some of the other Survivors from this season who are reading this as you are will be screaming at me for being nice to Shambo. Not my problem. I wasn’t in the game, I only know what I see and what I saw I enjoyed. I’m not saying Shambo wouldn’t get on my nerves over time, I’m only saying I liked what I saw.
SO WHERE DO WE STAND
When we finished shooting Survivor: Samoa I had mixed feeling about how the season would play for the audience. I knew we had a star in Russell but I wasn’t sure if we had anything else.
I have had hundreds of people stop me to tell me this is one of their favorite seasons. I realize that may not ring true to everybody reading this, but for a lot of people this has been a great season. Russell is truly a star and like him or not the fact that he is still in the game as we go into the final episode is a very good thing. The Foa Foa comeback has also been a major storyline this season.
Equally interesting is that Brett is still alive. Suddenly the quiet T-shirt designer is only a few days and one or two challenges away from a legitimate shot at a million dollars.
Even though I do know the outcome of who makes it to the final, I am still going to give you the same predictions I felt at this point when we were shooting the show:
Brett – If he makes it to the final, I think Brett has a really good shot at getting enough votes to win the money. Some of the jury may not feel he deserves it, but with a jury made up of Galu, the odds are in his favor.
Russell – Hands down the strongest player of this season. NO doubt about it. The big question is “Can he get the vote?” That really will depend on whether the jury takes an intellectual approach (if so he has a chance) or an emotional approach (his chances diminish significantly.) If he makes it to the final he will have his work cut out for him.
Natalie – With only five people left, I’d say Natalie has fairly good odds of winning this game. Her biggest challenge is going to be getting to the final. If Brett continues to win, Natalie could be in trouble because she is a threat to win the game. Her best strategy would be to continue to stand next to Russell and vote the way he says.
Jaison – He has a reasonable shot depending on who he is up against. If Jaison is up against Mick and Natalie I think he could make a pretty compelling argument and might sway the jury his way. He was a slow burn but I think people have come to appreciate his integrity.
Mick – I think Mick is the longshot. The one thing that could turn it for Mick is if he makes it to the final and then reveals that he has been playing “quiet” for a reason. If Mick turns out to be a great orator he could surprise everybody and change the minds of the jury at the final tribal council.
I hope you’re excited for our finale on Sunday. I think it’s going to be fun to watch and the Reunion show should be a kick as well.
AND THIS JUST IN…
On a separate note, I just found out that the pilot for a new show I created with Mark Burnett, called “LIVE FOR THE MOMENT” will air at 8 pm on Thursday, Jan. 28th, 2010. If you’re looking for something new that offers great adventure as well as an uplifting message about how to get the most out of life, I hope you’ll check it out and encourage your friends to watch. I’m really proud of it and I hope it connects with an audience. The only way a show like this gets a chance for a second episode is if people watch the first one! Thanks for the support.
FINAL BLOG
I may not be able to write a blog following the finale. I will do my best but I want to be up front and share that it just might not happen.
So with that in mind I will take a small leap ahead and say… “Survivor 20…..” Wait till you see what we have in store for you! I think you’re gonna dig it!
Thanks to Entertainment Weekly for letting me do these blogs again and thanks to Dalton Ross for the weekly reminders to get my blogs finished on time.
Finally, thanks to you guys, the fans, our loyal audience, the people who read this blog and respond with your comments. I read your comments every week and I learn a lot from them. Sometimes your comments even get copied and sent to our producers or our challenge department because you make some very good points in your analysis of the show.
I’ve enjoyed our back and forth, thanks for the honesty.
And now…. Let’s get to Sunday night already!

Of course, any move that involves riding Russell's coattails is void. It is clear she is a dumb girl, that is dumb enough Russell wants to bring her with him.
That will probably be a failure on his part, not a "move" on hers...
In all fairness to Natalie, she did say in a very early episode that she believed that because Russell rubs people the wrong way, if she can ride him to the final 2, that she will beat him in the jury vote. I do think she is somewhat conscious of what she is doing. Certainly not the strategic mastermind that Russell is, but she's playing her cards very well.

Yes, I did go a bit overboard in the picture I painted of Nat. Cruel and unfair.
Still, if we are looking at the ethereal Survivor charter, her name would not be next to it in definition.
It would be a "skate" win, if she pulls it off. Not anything to celebrate.
I think I would celebrate. I just got a million dollars. As well he used here just like she used him. Without them having 4 members or if they may have cut Jaison before the merge we may have seen a different game transpire but in the end we are stuck here and if I were russell I would be writing out my answers.
I have had this weird feeling that Brett is going to win this season. I just dont see why he would be so invisible for so long and win at the end though. Editing is weird for this season. I want Russell to win. I have been a fan of his all season long. Shambo being gone sucks, I loved her.

Maybe, just maybe they want to blind side the viewers...
In all fairness to everyone left, this season was edited to be the Russell Show. Jaison was responsible for atleast Shambo & Brad or Ben whatever that losers name was but Russell got credited for it when he really just voted with the majority but they made it seem like he made the decision. It also made it seem like Marissa(?) was his idea but I think I read in an interview with her it wasn't his decision. So in fairness we don't know how much was a team effort and how much was really all Russell. It's not like Big Brother where we know everything. Like I said before Natalie to me is beautiful and I would still pull for her (like I did Jordan), but I really think she changed the course of the game and deserves it. Russell couldn't have gotten Erik voted out without her and I wish CBS, Mark Brunnett or whoever gave her more credit for that but of course not since it's Russell's show.

Brett would be "more deserving" than Nat.
He has proven himself on the field of battle.
I'd like Russell to win as well, being I generally pull for the best player. That is not going to happen. Someone is going to outplay him (thus relegating him to second best?) Maybe Nick, maybe Nat. I just see him going down hard.
No one would want him in the final two. He ran this game. Practically ever person that has been tossed, was a Russell toss. He is the biggest, most vocal mastermind in the the history of this game. A fair jury would give him the money on that fact alone.
However, there are complications. He doesn't "need" the money. This might be pivotal in my projections.

Then you think to yourself "When was the last time we had a fair jury?" I sure can't think of one...
I think Russell would be a safe bet if you wanted to win a million dollars.
I think Russell would be a safe bet if you wanted to win a million dollars.
Sad but true.
A microcosm of America today. Who cares about merit, right? We have our pitchforks out and need to be told why...that is what we are for.
I think its especially telling of the jury that they are bitter toward Russell -- and he didn't even backstab any of them. Though his methods of doing things are rough around the edges, he worked the people in the game brilliantly and was completely loyal to his people.

Exactly. That's why I kind of give Nat a little bit of credit...she knew exactly what she was doing when she aligned herself with Russell. Make him do the dirty work, make him not be the liked one, and be the happy-go-lucky, girl who kills an occasional rat.
I do give her credit for Erik's ouster though. And everyone in the jury so far has said she is playing an excellent social game.
Oh, and it is clear that the majority of viewers that are sharing their thoughts here are drinking the Kool-aid.
But, but...Natalie somehow made a move 3 weeks ago..and um, that move is why she deserves to win. Nobody can really be specific about said move being it was just an aside and a camera moment.
Um, ya...ok. Natalie was told by Russ what to do. She was edited into the clip and is now someone of importance. We know where this is heading.
Does anyone have a waste basket? I need to toss...
How can you claim Brett is more deserving than Natalie? He hasn't made one move in the game. Yes, he's strong in challenges but Natalie has held her own. She's no Evelyn but besides Laura I think she was the strongest girl out there. Brett had the numbers at 8 to 4 (or 7 to 5) and had the game stolen from him. He was obviously the next to go home and put up no fight with Natalie & Mick he just hoped he won them over with a sunset and snails.

I'm not saying she would be my favorite to win B, just that I see where the other side is coming from when they say what they say about Natalie.
Erik's boot was at a critical point in the game. And once they got Kelly out via idol, it gave Foa Foa+Shambo+John the swing they needed toward the majority. There is no way any of the Foa Foa 4 would be where they are now if it wasn't for them getting Erik out. You can't deny that. And from what we saw on TV, Natalie was seemingly the one that orchestrated his out.
When it comes down to it, you know the jury is going to vote with their bitter hearts, not their heads. They always do.
Um, ya...ok. Natalie was told by Russ what to do. She was edited into the clip and is now someone of importance. We know where this is heading.
I think that sh e was perceptive of what she was doing at that point in the game. We saw Russell telling her that she only THOUGHT that she pulled off the move, and I think he was hoping that playing the idol at that tribal council would be the move to set everything off.
Russell absolutely controlled the game from start to finish, and I don't think that one move from Natalie should overshadow that, even if it was the catalyst for the rest of the game's result as molds pointed out. But I don't think its fair to ignore that Natalie's sphere of influence with the girls played a huge role at that time. Russell needed her social skills at that point in the game. Mick and Jaison could both be interchangeable and are arguably just numbers for the Foa alliance, but Natalie did bring something aside from just her own vote.
Russell's social skills with certain people - i.e. Shambo and most of the original Foa tribe, as equally important for himself and he did a great job at that part of the game, it gave him the ability to control everyone else.
I do think the reason Natalie gets so much credit is based on the relativity of the situation - at the beginning she was expected to be an invisible, docile female like so many that Survivor has cast in the past. And to some extent, she is that, but the relative surprise of her pulling off a move helps elevate her credibility.
I don't think Natalie is a mastermind, but she has done more than Mick or Brett. Plus, she's done a better "surviving" job than Jaison. He was ready to call it quits when it got tough. So if Natalie makes a move that gets rid of Russell and taker her, Mick, & Jaison to the finals I think she should win it. I still want to know what you think she could have differently to "deserve it"? Her and Russ were a perfect pair he was the mastermind & she was the social butterfly.
I think if there were more Foa Foa members on the jury (and the best case scenario at this point is 2, I am talking more like 4 or 5, so better numbers at the merge) he would have a better chance of winning.
The members of Galu saw almost nothing from him except negativity. I think they look at Natalie as someone who was always nice to them when voting them off, whereas they look at Russell as the "mastermind" who was "obviously threatened by them". So, do you look at the girl that smiles as she stabs you in the back, or the guy that looks away when you try to make eye contact? He did it with John and he did it with Shambo...they looked at him, he looked away.
I just finished watching Survivor and I was so happy Shambo got the boot!
She annoyed me since day one, along with Russell (I know a lot of people are Russell fans, understandably, but I just don't care for him)
I will give Russell the credit he deserves. He played a solid game. I will give credit where credit is needed. I think Natalie is also an amazing player. Her social skills were so helpful thrugh the game, as well as her loyalty to Foa Foa. A big move for her, that would win the jury over is to get rid of Russell (but I don't see that happening).
I also like Brett. He is not an agressive player and does not go into people's faces for votes. He just stays calms, acts friendly and wins. They should have gotten rid of him a long time ago, because he is a force to be reckoned with now.
Kudos to Russ for talking about Shambo's 80's style mullet. The only thing I enjoyed about Sham, was that ferocious hair of hers. It looks angry and like it will jump off and bite someone.
Brett of all the people would be most worthy especially if he ran the table. (hasn't been done in years) or if he could convince them to vote with him but if not I would probably have a tough time giving the vote to any of them as Russell did orchestrate the moves but they are equally involved as they did as he says. With Brett he didn't vote for any of them and he also stuck with the alliance to the end so with that respect points would be given to him.One question I had was why did Russel not get rid of some of his alliance earlier as in Jaison instead of Monique didn't he realize by getting Foa Foa in the jury asap would be his best chance of winning as he would have at least 2 maybe 3 votes also Shambo? It's not like he couldn't have made a secondary alliance?
If he got rid of his own a) he wouldn't have been in the final 3. It's not like he can just change anyone's mind at any given point. Erik was voted off because they had lee-way (sp?) and didn't know Shambo would flip. Then he would have been voted off if it weren't for the idol. He got lucky Shambo hated Laura so much and that Jon wasn't willing to go out by a rock. b) he probably would have lost their vote.

He forgot Amber! She was voted the hottest Survivor female ever on the All Stars reunion.
I agree with what Jeff said about Russell that he would go down as the greatest player of all time. It's sad that Brett won't be asked since he's a cool guy, but that's the truth.
I'm pumped for the finale tonight!
I wish Natalie would have been on all stars, but I think she would have ruined Russell's game and the producers wouldn't have that. Amber hottest Survivor ever (1-8). Colleen, Jessie, Elisabeth, Kim, Sarah, Jenna, Tanya, Darrah, Tijuana, & Jan all have her beat.
I would have liked to have seen his take on people who are already voted off and if they could be brought back. Such as Dave who was awesome and should have another season....eventually. Also I think Survivor should either have a season of all the winners or a season of all the people voted off first (giving they all want to come back) either way you will get fan favorites and hated people. Or in the case of first eliminated you will get a whole group of people who didn't really get covered and not have to cast really for a season. They also then get someone who will redeem themselves and be known as sole survivor instead first out.
