16 and Pregnant
Since I've seen this show mentioned in other threads, I know I am not alone in watching it. After seeing all but one episode I think, I find it equal parts fascinating and depressing. My favorite story by far is that of Catelynn and Tyler, who gave their baby up for adoption. I must have been crying on and off through that entire episode. I give them so much credit because for me, at almost 28 and having no children, I don't see how these kids do it. I really admire their decision and strength, and I sure hope their life together only gets better! That being said, I am really looking forward to watching the reunion tonight. It'll be neat to see how everyone is doing after the cameras are gone. (And I suspect more tears will be in order when Catelynn and Tyler are reunited with their daughter.) Just wanted to get this thread started and see what everyone else thinks!
I think I have missed 2 episodes, but Catelynn and Tyler are also my favorites. Seeing them interact with their family just really showed how much more mature they actually were. I'm glad that it seemed like they had a good relationship with the adoptive parents and that they were both on the same terms of how they were going to address the adoptive parents vs biological parents issue. Hopefully their relationship is still strong and will most definitely be a tearful reunion for me! This series was definitely much better than I had expected, I am glad I gave it a chance.
I only watched the last episode in its entirety, and I was very proud of those kids. I was especially proud when the boy stood up to his father. This is one of the few shows on MTV where I don't find myself laughing at the kids on it.
I watch it, and I like it. I was 17 when I got pregnant and these stories are so real. I can not wait for the reunion show and I know that I will be crying when they see their daughter again. I cried over the commercial that showed this, so I know the actual show will get to me.
I am glad you started this thread OPD! I have watched all of these except for the adoption one, as a person who has been trying for the last 7 years to have a child with my Husband, and dealing with numerous miscarriages...... this show really hits home. I am glad MTV is airing this show, it is a great look into the responsibilities of raising a child, an even better look at how much it effect's the parent's lives. I think this a a good way, for those who find pregnancy glamorous at a young age to see that it is so much more than just getting pregnant. I cry my eyes out every time I watch a new one, and I have my young daughter watch it with me, to see how much it takes to love and care for a child!

I was skeptical of this show at first, thinking it will either be played off as all fun and games, or that all these kids are just trash. That wasn't the case. Though some have done better than others, I really felt for all of them. I too was cheering for Tyler when he told his dad "No this isn't good enough for my daughter!" He is wise beyond his years and I really hope he and Catelynn stay together and get married (eventually). On the MTV blog, they printed his letter to his daughter in it's entirety (at he and Catelynn's request even). I dare someone to read that and not get misty-eyed. He will be a great dad someday.

Tyler standing up to his dad saying "It's not good enough...you weren't even here for me..." was a really powerful moment. Then he saved her blanket! :cry2: I think I'll wait until the reunion tonight to read the letter. Try and save all my tears for one time. ;)

What these 2 kids did was by far the most unselfish thing in the world. They gave that little girl a chance for a kind of life they never knew. They also gave Teresa and Brandon something they had been so desperately trying to have for themselves. I have no doubt in my mind that Carolyn will be loved so very much.
I'm really looking forward to the reunion!
I wonder if there will be a season 2 for this show. If there is, it probably won't be for at least half a year, because they film throughout most of the pregnancy. Unless, they already started filming. But that would be a waste of time if the show completely bombed. (IDK how it did ratings-wise, but I've heard quite a bit of talk about it)
Man you guys got me teary eyed just talking about it...My 17 year old sister was glued to the TV through this whole series and she got me hooked. I originally thought that MTV was going to try to glamorize teen pregnancy but I give them kudos for making sure to get a couple who were considering alternative options for their child.

Well season doesn't seem like the right word, but they have started casting for more episodes. Balling my eyes out right now. Catelynn & Tyler are amazing people. I wish only the best for them.

Farrah totally dodged the question about her mom being overbearing. She acted like she was scared to say anything otherwise. The two of them seemed a little awkward just now. And I want to know more about Farrah's "baby-daddy". It's not like he doesn't know now, so he must have tried to do something? I wonder what his story is since they don't talk about him at all, except that she wanted nothing to do with him from the beginning. Or did I miss something?

Ugh and Ryan is still an *******. Maci PLEASE kick his *** to the curb...ugh I'm reminded of how sad I was for her when her episode first aired.

I have a feeling he probably just didn't take responsibility so she cut him out instead of trying to make him man up if you will. Her and her mom were awkward, but it's understandable if you have a moment like the broadcast all over the place. I bet it is still a touchy subject between them and there still seemed to be some tension about the whole pregnancy in general.
In her episode, it showed her talking to her friends (in the beginning) about how whatever-his-name-is didn't know and she didn't want him to find out. IIRC, all she really said about it in her interview was that she dated him for awhile, got pregnant, and wanted nothing to do with him so she didn't want to tell him. Which is her choice, but I just wondered if there was a bigger story behind it.

Who knows though. It does seem like there is more to the story though.

Oh Catelynn and Tyler, you can come live with me.
I know! I am not even that much older than them, but I just want to scoop them up and help them out.
I'd be ok if Brandon and Theresa adopted them too!
Seeing them interact I always got a feeling that they saw Catelynn and Tyler as their own children or own siblings. People they wanted to help as much as they were thankful for the gift they had been given. As people they respected instead of pitied.

Yea! I just realized this is 90 minutes! And I don't think I could love Catelynne and Tyler more. They are good people. Exceptional people.

I missed it! I did DVR it though so I hope to watch it as soon as I go home
Are the girls on this show actually 16? They all say that they're seniors in high school... I've just been wondering that for awhile.

A girl that goes to my old high school just got casted to be on the new season. She is going to be a senior in the fall and I believe is turning 17 in August, possibly even 18, not really sure.

I just saw a commercial for yet another special for this show next week! It's called "16 and Pregnant-Unseen Moments." I only caught a few seconds but the clips looked interesting.
