Real World DC: Ty Ruff

So I figure, since I already released Ashley's info earlier today, I may as well just publish some information on Ty Ruff of Baltimore, MD. Ty played high school football at Gilman in Baltimore before moving to Connecticut to go to school at Trinity College, where he graduated this past May. He is 22 years old. Thanks for the info!

As of the date from this article where he was 19, it would make him either 21 or almost 22, depending on his birthday. He also supposedly "takes down white whales like he's Captain Ahab". I guess we'll have to wait and see... His home newspaper, the Baltimore Sun have already released a (brief) article about him. It basically has all the information we already have, but still... The article says he graduated from Gilman in 2006, where he also ran track. That would make him a current student at Trinity. However, there are football stats from him at Trinity as early as 2005.
A Gilman boy! Nice to see Baltimore represented, but I am sort of biased against his school...football rivalries run high around here.

That would be interesting to see. He sure does love those plaid shorts though.

In that Baltimore Sun article, elizabethany quotes all this info as her own scoop. elizabethany, please make sure to cite Vevmo if you did not. Meaning there are a few options: 1. If his birthday is January 1st-July 2nd, he is 22 years old upon entering the house. 2. If his birthday is July 2nd-August 24th, he is 21 upon entering the house, and will turn 22 during filming. 3. If his birthday is August 24th-late November, he is 22 upon entering the house, and will turn 23 during filming. 4. If his birthday is late November-December 31st, he is 22 years old upon entering the house.
I wonder if Ty is actually from Baltimore or one of its many suburbs. A lot of times people say they're from Baltimore to people from out of town because it's easier than being like, "I'm from Towson, it's about 20 minutes outside Baltimore..." It also surprises me that out of 23 seasons, they chose to pick someone from Maryland when they went to DC for the season. That's kind of a raw deal, because it's not like he's living in a very new environment.
Thanks. Another cast member down. His last name is interesting.

Yes, it's sort of a raw deal, but according to Wikipedia, the following were locals: -Kyle, Chicago -Lori, Back to New York (NJ suburb) -Ruthie, Hawaii -Melissa, Miami -Sharon, London (suburb) -Puck, San Francisco -Irene, Los Angeles -Tami, Los Angeles -Heather, New York (NJ suburb) -Kevin, New York (NJ suburb) Also many in Baltimore don't visit DC often, and many in DC do not visit Baltimore often.
he actually graduated from Gilman in 05 and from Trinity this past May.
Also, he turned 22 in May and he is from Baltimore city, not the suburbs.

Thanks UKnow for some clarification.
It's good to know he's from the actual city. Baltimore city is really interesting and has a lot of stereotypes associated with it, so it'll be good to see Ty (hopefully) break a lot of them.

I still haven't seen any episodes of The Wire so no stereotypes there. I've also always felt like it would be a city I would like to live in since I am more a fan of smaller east coast cities. :)
His name is Ty Ruff... Haha.
He went to all boys private school...so I think the stereotypes you should be considering should be more related to that and not to baltimore lol

It seems like all article have him going by the name Tyrell, not Ty.
I'm not sure if it is bad or good that the only things I associate with Baltimore are good crab, Hairspray/anything John Waters, the Ravens and Ace of Cakes. I've also always felt like it would be a city I would like to live in since I am more a fan of smaller east coast cities. :)
Those are the great things about Baltimore (except the Ravens, in my opinion...but I'm diehard Redskins)! That and Federal Hill...I love Federal Hill, and the 8x10 (it's a concert venue). I don't know if Michael Phelps would be considered a good or bad thing about Baltimore...haha. And I don't think we can stereotype Ty(rell) too much based on either fact, because we don't know his situation regarding either one--why he went to Gilman in the first place (the Baltimore area single sex schools are fiercely competitive when it comes to sports--Gilman, Loyola, Boys Latin, Mount St. Joe's--so if he exhibited great skill they could have helped him out in terms of tuition), or if he's even from a bad part of Baltimore, and it's very possible that he isn't. I think a lot of his political views probably did come from going to Gilman because it is a very wealthy school and many of his classmates were probably conservative. Anyway, it's probably not right to assume he's going to live up to/defy either stereotype (Baltimore boy and all boys private school boy), but it would be nice if he made people realize that Baltimore isn't just "Bodymore, Murderland". In addition, I remember that in high school, most Gilman boys were known as stuck up ******. I never got to know anyone who went there, but people who had experience with all of the schools in the area told me that. I was in high school roughly the same time Ty was, too--he graduated in '05, I graduated in '07.
I was trying to give people a hint when I said to think about the stereotypes associated with Baltimore private school rather than what people typically think of when they hear "Baltimore". People seemed to be making comments indicating that they thought he might exemplify some of the bad stereotypes associated with the city. I was trying to say that he might not be that way at all without giving too much away about how he really is. I know him personally so it's really amusing to see what premature conclusions people are coming to.
I know him personally so it's really amusing to see what premature conclusions people are coming to.
Yeah it happens with every season...sometimes the premature conclusions turn into rumors though so if you see anything that is not true or just completely farfetched we urge you to speak up so that someone does not take it and run with it at another site (which is happening already).

First of all, I've seen how Ty is dressed in the pictures around the site and the first thing that stuck out like a sore thumb to me was that he likes wearing flip flops. About 98 percent of straight black males who identify with black culture don't like wearing flip flops lol So I kind of have my own opinion about Ty based upon that alone lol
Ty isn't gay....many black guys who go to the high school that he attended dress in the same way. I guess it's part of the private prep school culture and when everyone around you is dressing that way, it's acceptable. He has friends of all races, but chooses to exclusively date non-black women....for reasons that you might find out later or when the show airs.
