I just noticed: The Alaska Experiment: Out of the Wild - is on after Deadliest Catch. I watched last season and it was enjoyable and recommended. YouTube - Out of the Wild: The Alaska Experiment
I just noticed: The Alaska Experiment: Out of the Wild - is on after Deadliest Catch. I watched last season and it was enjoyable and recommended.
Ooh! I'll check it out. I didn't know about it before this season, but I love these kinds of shows so it looks interesting.
Big episode tonight! The Cornelia Marie is trapped in the ice! I personally think this has been the best season of Deadliest catch yet.
I am watching it right now! haha It has been a very good season. Sad, funny, inspiring, intense...I can't wait for more! Also, I did really enjoy The Alaska Experiment. I must have missed the last few episodes though somewhere so I will have to look out for them so I can see how the crew made out.
Sad news: 'Deadliest Catch' Captain Phil Harris has died | EW.com My thoughts go out to the family. I loved watching Phil, he always made me laugh! He raised some great kids and hopefully now he can rest in peace.
Oh my. I thought he had turned the corner. Very sad.
Captain Phil Harris was my favorite Captain on the show, I loved his unbreakable spirit. Which no doubt will carry on in his sons Josh and Jake. I am watching DC reruns today, and smiling every time I see him. May you rest in peace Captain Phil.
It looks like things are starting to spiral out of control for this family...
TMZ has learned "Deadliest Catch" star Jake Harris is currently behind bars -- after cops say the 24-year-old got into a car crash while intoxicated late last night. Washington State troopers have confirmed that Jake -- whose father Captain Phil Harris passed away earlier this month -- was arrested in Seattle on suspicion of DUI, hit and run, and driving with a suspended license.
[via]
It looks like things are starting to spiral out of control for this family...
How sad... :( Nothing excuses drunk driving, but I can't imagine what the poor kid has been through these last few weeks.
Does anyone know how this will affect the show? I definately feel sorry for that Harris family.
Does anyone know how this will affect the show? I definately feel sorry for that Harris family.
They were done filming before any of this happened. It will be on next month.
Thanks for the info.
It seems as though the camera's were with Captain Phil until his last minute. There are a number of great articles on this page including, The Brave Last Days of Captain Phil. They are running a Deadliest Catch marathon all weekend, and the new season starts on Tuesday April 13th.
I'll be watching for sure!
That is a great article LM. Now you got me crying over here! :cry2: I'm excited for the next season but I don't know if I will be able to make it through watching Phil in his last days.

I still don't like watching the episodes with him in it. I suspect in this case watching the marathons will be a litle harder. This weekend, everytime I saw Phil blow a gasket, I got this creepy feeling since he died of complications from a stroke. I love the show though and the F/V Cornelia Marie was and is my favorite of the crews.

****! Drama from the beginning on Deadliest Catch!
****it, I am watching Lost. I will catch up with the discussion tomorrow. I am looking forward to this, but it doesn't trump Lost. ;)
Lucky for me I never got into Lost. Tons of stuff went down before they even hit the water! It's shaping up to be a GREAT season. :D Man, mayday call already...

It's shaping up to be a GREAT season. :D Man, mayday call already...
I only got to watch half, because of Glee, but I am getting ready to finish now. I was shocked when Johnathon shoved Keith! Keith must really rub those guys the wrong way, because none of them like him. Jake and Jake switching boats, how heartbreaking was that? Neither of them wanted to do it. I can't help but wonder how Jake from the CM feels about missing out on one of the last seasons with his father? The previews they showed were fantastic, there is so much happening this season! But when I heard Josh saying" It's ok Dad, they just need to take your pulse'" I was bawling like a baby!

It's sad since these guys seem to have been friends for a long time. I don't think they will have the boys stay switched the whole season. Hopefully only for half the season since we know what happens to Phil. Luckily, if anyone will get Jake back to his dad asap it's Sig.
I loved the first episode. I thought the switch was a good idea as both of them were having a tough time getting into the galley on their respective boats because their heads had grown so much over the last few seasons. I think they'll both find being on another boat a learning experience and I am sure they will get back to their homes for Opilio season. I think for Phil, the main reason was to even the playing field with his sons. Jake felt over privileged and Phil needed to kick him down a notch. As for Keith, even though we have seen some touching moments with him, in the end he does seem like a bit of an *** so even though I was surprised Jonathon pushed him, I figure in the end he probably deserved it. Can't wait to see how the season plays out. Obviously it is going to get rough toward the end.
I watched all of tonight's episode, and actually didn't even think about the fact that Phil had passed until the very end. I just enjoyed watching him and the story that was unfolding. Another great episode. This show is always an hour well spent, even when nothing really happens.
Agreed! I think I only thought about Phil when he called Jake to wish him happy birthday and Sig joked about how his brother missed him now and that it puts things into perspective or something. I'm glad the Jakes aren't switched for the whole season. It does feel a little off on each boat without them. Though Freddy was pretty cute tonight when Jake Anderson wanted to throw the hook calling him "Iron Man" haha! Speaking of Jake Anderson, did you hear about how his father has been missing for 2 months? It's pretty sad. I guess he did normal errands then went to meet an "acquaintance" who they say gave him Oxycontin now and then to help with pain from past injuries and depression. I guess he had got hooked on it a little after being prescribed it for those injuries. Then he never came back from the meeting. This happened a week before the 1 year anniversary of his daughters death. Later, his wife found his phone on the ground by their house and recently his truck was found on a remote logging road that he would have never gone to himself. It basically reeks of foul play. So sad. Jake and the guys on the Northwestern have been pleading for any info so they can just find out what happened to him. Here's an older story about it before they found his truck: 'Deadliest Catch' Star Jake Anderson Wants Answers in Father Keith's Disappearance - AOL News
Oh, I didn't know that story. Very sad and I don't see a happy ending. I really like Jake and was so glad to see him prove himself on the Cornelia Maria with the hook (even though he still had to cough up $100.) He is a hard worker and he really gets pounded on, but in the end I am sure he could probably get a job on any crab boat with the experience he has gained and his work ethic. While I understand the Jake switch and I do think that CM's Jake was getting a little to big for his shoes, it is good to know they are going back to their home vessels, especially with what what know of what is to come.
Just another reason to love the Deadliest Catch boys! From Seattle Times Newspaper:
Pulling off a wish like this one required a big story, and a lot of heart. And so, with a note of panic in his voice, Spider-Man explained the dilemma: “Dr. Dark” [Edgar Hansen] and “Blackout Boy” [Jake Anderson] had imprisoned the Seattle Sounders in a locker room at Qwest Field. Only Electron Boy could free them. […] Watching her son run across the plaza in front of the Space Needle, mom Judy Martin said Erik goes to school when he’s able, but is often too tired. “He hasn’t had this much energy in a long time,” she said. “They called it the power of the wish, and they’re right.” Like any good superhero, Electron Boy kept his innermost thoughts to himself. But he did have one important thing to say: “This is the best day of my life.”

Just another reason to love the Deadliest Catch boys!
I cannot wait for the new episode, my eyes may be deceiving me, but do they try to switch the 2 Jakes in the middle of the Bering sea? ETA: Yes they do switch them in the middle of the sea, as you can see in this video. WOW! that is pretty drastic, and scary, they must have really wanted their guys back!
I just love this show! It is by far the most real reality show out there. While there might be a few of the guys who play it up for the cameras *cough Russell cough* I do believe that they are there to do their jobs, and get back home to thier nervously waiting families. The switching of the 2 Jakes in the middle of the Bering sea was so intensely scary, even though I knew they were going to make it alright. (we would have heard about it in the media if not) They must have realy been missing their guys to go to that extreme. Coming along with this storyline, was another tear jerker with Nick on the NW, losing a man off his own boat 4 months previous. I felt so bad for that guy, I am sure seing the Jakes floating in their survival suits, really got to him. What a strong man to get back on a boat, after such devastation. Anyone else get the feeling that Edgar is not going to be around much longer? Seemed as though he was really distancing himself from the crew. Here is an interesting article on Sig, he is saying he wants to be on Dancing with the Stars. I gotta admit, I would love it too!
