Real World and The Challenge Renewed for Four More Seasons
MTV is ordering four more seasons of its veteran reality hit "The Real World." The order will extend the 17-year-old docudrama from Bunim-Murray Prods. to 26 cycles. MTV also is ordering another four rounds of Bunim-Murray's "The Real World/Road Rules Challenge," bringing the competition series to 21 cycles. The current season of "The Real World: Brooklyn" will air its finale Wednesday, and producers are already shooting the next round, "The Real World: Cancun." Given MTV's youthful target audience, the network must develop a constant stream of new, hip programing. But the "Real World" format keeps managing to hook new generations of viewers. Producers tweaked the format for the Brooklyn season by not giving the cast members jobs. "It's something I've been wanting to do for a while, and it's easier to do in a big metropolitan area," executive producer Jon Murray said. "The season after Cancun, a location that hasn't been announced yet, I think might be like that too." YAY!!! More challenges :)
YAY!!! More challenges :)
No - yay more Real World! The Challenges are going to get boring after a while if the same obnoxious people (Evan, Kenny, Johnny, etc.) keep doing them and not enough of the true vets (Coral, Theo, Ruthie, Veronica, Emily, etc.) are doing the challenges to keep the TRUE fans watching. In fact, I started not to watch Duel 2 until I learned Ruthie, Rachel and some of the other Vets were on there. That and I want to see Adam get knocked the **** out!

I think the Duel 2 is going to be way better than RWB. It was kind of boring towards the end. With these challenges there is always action!!! Except the Island.
I'm kind of surprised they got such a large order. Clearly the early RW: Brooklyn ratings helped in negotiations.
I think most of those people are done with Challenges.
at least for the most part...I mean everybody has to either move on or grow up sometime, BUT i bet most would come back for one last hurrah given the right circumstances.

The questions being asked during casting clearly point in this direction, and it seems like a good time to state that I now believe there is an 80% probability that the season will be set in the nation's capitol.

Do you know what kinds of questions they are asking that point in this direction? I'm thinking political affiliation would be a big one...
New season will be in washington, DC? HMMMMM.... I wonder what type of cast they are looking for for the capital city! :search:

Wonder how long we've got until its no more road rulers and all real worlders? What will they call it then?
Wonder how long we've got until its no more road rulers and all real worlders? What will they call it then?
I would assume they would call it Real World Challenge.
There have been cast members who have done something with themselves or made an impact on society on challenges before. Also there have been a few people on challenges who didn't like to get drunk and party like crazy. I thought I might be done with RW some time soon, and perhaps the challenges as well. I figured they could have ended RW after season 20. I agree with rwny that the challenges aren't what they used to be without the vets. I only watched a couple of episodes of The Island and had actually planned to skip it, which I haven't done before for a challenge. Theere were several people there that I either didn't like to watch or didn't know much about or I didn't find them that interesting. Plus the few major vets went out at the beginning, one after the other. But as long as there are a few people from past challenges that I am interested in, a few new people that I like on them (and I do like some people here and there from newer seasons, just as from the old seasons), and I find the drama and missions interesting, I will probably watch. And even if I don't, it's just really neat to see an early reality TV series continue. Even at its worst it is better than a lot of other stuff on MTV, IMO. I have watched the last RW seasons and been entertained, and most recently watched G3, so I do still have interest in them. So this overall is good news to me that RW and the challenges have been renewed. If there will be no more RR to bring in more roadies, they can just call the show "The Challenge" like they did for a couple of season starting with Fresh Meat (or starting after it). Perhaps that was intentionally done because of FM, or maybe it was done because of how popular the challenges were and it was felt the other part wasn't needed. I don't know exactly what the reasons were, but I took it to mean one of those (I leaned towards the FM theory). I didn't like it being called that by MTV, but technically it made more sense with FM being added and less RRers.
This is good news :yess:

It used to have that random "Laff-A-Lympics" (quoting Judd from RW Reunion: Inside Out) vibe where you got to see random RW and RR castmembers together, ones you haven't heard from in ages. The challenges were really cheesy in a fun way (if I remember, one involved pig wrestling and another involved guys in drag in the one Heather B. did). Now the same people appear on the Challenge over and over and over again, and it's no longer fun, it's like Survivor/Fear Factor with all those damn alliances.
Washington, DC. I'd rather watch.

I didn't even think the challenges would get renewed before we seen the Duel 2 ratings, this amazing news. It would be cool if the viewers got to pick one of the next formats since the format for the summer challenge is most likely already planned.
I am very happy about this! I have this horrible addiction to this show.
I'm kinda surprised too. Hopefully BMP will assemble a better cast for the upcoming Real World seasons. Brooklyn was quite the bore. As for the challenges -- I think I'm actually getting sick of them. I'm obviously a fan, so I'm excited... just not as excited as I would've been maybe a year or two ago.

Shot at love shows-(are they even doing another one?) gonna get old real fast... America's best dance crew- i can see this staying around for awhile. what else is there? Fill ins like next or parental control that people only tune in to when theres REALLY nothing else on! MTV would literally be nothing without The Real World and the Challenges...
I'm looking at the comments on MTV and everyone is like "Wheres, Kenny, Johnny, etc." or something like "Evan & Kenny are funny when they are together, why isn't Kenny on this challenge."
I don't even know who half those people are. Shows how many Challenges I've been watching in the past few years.
Kenny and Evan are from fresh meat. Johnny is from Key West.
Thanks for answering, but I wasn't asking. Just making a statement about how these folks don't matter to me like the older casts do.
