Should we refer to him as "He Who Also Shall Not Be Named"?
That is a management decision. JD has not been here and offended anyone, so he's just a cast member that most of us don't care for.
But if you were joking, I did laugh... a little.
Should we refer to him as "He Who Also Shall Not Be Named"?
He doesn't warrant his own moniker. We don't immortalize those who are undeserving of the recognition. Allow him to quietly fade into the aether. If he is to be remembered it will be as a whisper and only as villain or sociopath.
Don't glorify him.
Two letters is so much easier and faster to write than an entire sentence. It's like OK compared to "I am all right with that". Just stick with JD (for now...until he really blows it).
Sorry about that. It's my fault. It's 2 in the morning and instead of winding down I'm full of random thoughts.
Trooper6, thanks for having the guts to speak up at TWOP. They have some weird rules there where speaking up pretty much gets you banned, but you've got guts. Be a fan of Devyn or not, but the "she looks like a man" comments over there are meaningless. I'm Black too, and I can't stand that mess they pull over there.

I take it that not many people have a sense of humor. Chet was just joking around with the stint stuff. Come on, Recognize! ;p
I don't get the Chet hate. That's all.

Hate? No. Personally, I find his sense of humor to be a little odd and occasionally just a little off, like his failed joke during his MTV hosting audition, the "sex with his professor" think, but I don't think he is without redeeming social value.
Over the years I've sold a few jokes to the late-night TV shows, so I know humor. One can be incredibly funny without having it really be at someone's expense. Chet's frequent mistake as demonstrated with Katelynn, and it's one of youth and inexperience mostly, is that frequently his jokes or pranks are done at someone's expense in order to please or draw attention to himself. Instead of welcoming someone inside one's unique brand of humor (aka, Don Rickles, Chris Brown or Jeff Foxworthy), Chet deliberately excludes the brunt of his joke, often in that person's presence (e.g., Katelynn, JD, Sarah). Once he stops doing that, and broadens his life experience (until you've had sex, you can't really be funny about it, unless your make fun of yourself not having it), he can have a shot at being really funny and being accepted. It would not surprise me to learn that "off-camera," he listens more and does not do or say things at the expense of others.

Yea, I said it kinda tongue in cheek, but his humor is made to lighten a situation. Like when he was making funnies with Katelyn about the stint. He's using humor to open up conversation about something he's unfamilar with. I think some of us here, not necessarily you V1man, take his humor to seriously, IMHO.

The problem with "it's just a joke"--well there are a lot of problems with "it's just a joke."
The whole it's just a joke defense rests on the idea that the intentions of the speaker are a) honestly represented and b)trump any effects of the speaker's actions.
All the time I hear things like, "It wasn't racist because I didn't mean it to be." "That wasn't insulting, I was just joking."
But that doesn't wash always.
Let's start with 1) Many bullies will say something knowingly mean/cruel/upsetting and then when called on it use, "It's just a joke" as defense.
A: "You've an ugly cow"
B: "What?! You hurt my feelings"
A: "I was just joking--don't be so sensitive!"
I don't think for a minute Chet was actually joking with this harassment of Katelynn about the stints. He could see that he was making her uncomfortable, that she didn't want to talk about such a personal thing with him, and he continued to needle her. And none of it was funny. I call shenanigans on the joke part. But let's say he did mean all the badgering as a joke...he should have respected when she said, "No. I don't want to talk about it" and dropped it. Stop the badgering. And as for his insistence that he wouldn't have used her stints as part of a prank...how was Katelynn to know that? (If indeed it were true when he said that). This is a guy who put a rat in people's beds not that long earlier. Using her stint in some prank...even if that prank was hiding them from Katelynn to upset her...there has been no indication that he wouldn't do something like that. She wasn't being unreasonable.
If I hit you with my car and say, "Oh hey...I didn't mean to hurt you." You are still hurt. I need to own that and stop deflecting.
I remember in highschool bullies often thought many cruel things were funny. And they were never all that funny to the people who got pantsed/made fun of/assaulted. Funny at someone else's expense who is not in on the joke isn't a joke, it's bullying and badgering.
Katelynn--so if everyone must have a job...what is JD doing?

Ok well, I don't think Chet's joking was meant in any way to be cruel in any way and let's not compare CHet to a bully. I'm not going to look into this issue as far as you did trooper. I think that's beyond what I'm talking about.
Katelyn wasn't taking Chet's joke, at first, to heart, I don't think. Not until later in the episode when Chet made the joke again in the kitchen did Katelyn say she was offended. That's when Chet stopped with the joke, at least from what we can tell with the editing. So, I have to disagree.

Trooper, I could not agree more with your description. What is humor to one person does not absolve the badgering and bullying of another in the effort to create it. I don't think it necessarily make Chet a bad person. Young, foolish and more than a little immature I'll willingly grant.
Slightly off topic.
TWOP can be a rough place. Hadrian1, who occasional re-posted spoilers items from vemeo and, was bounced about a month ago for suggesting that people were wrong in thinking Melissa's parents were the ones creating conflict on The Bachelor. "Hadrian" worked for me as Vision 1 Media Group's general counsel and partner. He is now moving back to LA to join a major TV production company. Hadrian (Patrick) had most of the same info as Reality Steve and would have been a great source for TWOP. He gave me some of my best spoiler stuff that I've posted here. I'll miss him, but won't miss Ms Barnes at the other place.
Episode 12.
Speaking of Episode 12, I am FUMING mad about this episode and, surprise, surprise, it's because of JD. He is a lying sack of shit and flat out lies to one of the roommates claiming something that is wholly, completely, and emphatically untrue. Though I shouldn't be surprised, considering the source. It's about a thirty minutes in, when he's talking to Scott.
Don't worry, I'll talk about it in a few weeks when the show airs.
*rage*
Girl why do you let it upset you so? You're better than that. If you don't react to it then you wont spend your time angry and upset - look at Devyn she doesn't give it (the drama) the time of day.
Should we refer to him as "He Who Also Shall Not Be Named"?
Hell no they are two completely different people - I could live in a house with JD - that other fool would have gotten his butt kicked by me a long time ago!
Once again V1man you made me choke on my morning drink with your cyanide kool aid comment, that's going to have to get a nomination for comment of the thread the only competition might be Katelynn's Metal Gear Solid flashback! Normally I would say don't feed the troll, but those comments made the feedings well worth it.
I was really glad to see Baya on tonight, Baya you don't have to explain yourself, you already addressed why you didn't go to the conservatory in a previous episode and you're absolutely right, tough love isn't for everyone. Most of Ryan's comments I take with a grain of salt anyways, I was just glad he and ADHJD weren't monopolizing the entire freakin episode. Maybe I'm wrong but I could've sworn that we saw Baya tell Ryan she decided not to go to the conservatory in the episode where she auditioned?
I agree with Trooper re: Chet and his "jokes". I'm a Freud groupie so I subscribe to the theory that the two main purposes of joking are either for aggression or exposure, I think Chet's jokes towards Katelynn were both. But that's not a bad thing. . .if the jokes are actually funny. The worst part of his joking is the fact that he simply isn't very funny 90% of the time, it just reeks of trying too hard. I have this socially awkward cousin that was home schooled and never learned how to play well with others, he always makes these really weird jokes and people laugh in the interest of not increasing the awkwardness. That's kind of what I think of with Chet. His funniest moments I think are unintentional, like when he needed to have his cherry flavored chap stick in order to pull himself together during the audition, that was pretty hilarious.
I liked the Devyn and Sarah scenes, they were very cute. And I liked seeing Katelynn's project come together (thanks for the link btw), I agree it was nice to take a bit of a break from the fighting and s**t talking (minus Ryan's ****hing about Baya).

Very nicely written V!
I have to agree at the end of the day this show is edited to be what "they" want us to see. Things are spliced and diced, chopped and added back in, sometimes they did not even happen like they were shown.
Chet, I have to tell you I love him, it is almost like watching my seven year old daughter venture out into the world. Learning new things everyday, and yes he does joke, but he is also a very intellectual man.

I had a lot of fun with that job! The thing that really chaps my hide is the fact that I got that job in SEPTEMBER I was one of the first to get a job.. along with performing with a rock band around NYC.. but they make it seem like I just decided to start working in our last weeks of filming... and they show the boys (especially in the dailies vids) commenting on the productivity of the girls... but look who had time to pull pranks and who didnt... the girls were all working hard from the start.

V1 I usually agree with you and your perceptions...But not this time... Chet thrives off of making jokes at the expense of others.. its how he deflects his own personal issues..it takes away his personal responsibility and gives him that attention he craves but lacks from not being hugged enough as a child.
I take it that not many people have a sense of humor. Chet was just joking around with the stint stuff. Come on, Recognize! ;p
I don't get the Chet hate. That's all.
I don't hate Chet, but I call him out because of the things he says and does that I think are too much at times. Sometimes he just irks me and I think he (and Ryan) would be annoying to deal with sometimes. It's not so much the joking situation for me as it is an issue of Chet constantly talking about and bashing people in the confessionals (watch the dailies), in the showers when he is talking with Scott (there are at least two shower stalls in the bathroom), when he is talking to Ryan, etc. He is constantly pointing out flaws in others, yet when he does something that is offensive, he has a way of flipping the argument onto the other person and making it sound like they were the one doing something offensive instead. As I said earlier, he deflects the blame off of him and instead makes it seem like the other person has a problem for thinking he did something wrong. He did this with the issue of him and the guys joking at the AIDS event at Gettysburg as well. Chet seems to not think his immature behavior is offensive or wrong or annoying or upsetting. But everything else that the others (specifically the girls) do is annoying or bothersome to him.
But on the subject of joking and pranking, not everyone is going to respond well to people doing that constantly. Especially with personal things such as Kate's post-surgery tools or pranks relating to JD's private part and condoms. Also, putting a rat in the bed of someone just because you don't like them or you want to "punish" them for a relationship situation that has nothing to do with you is harsh. I just wouldn't want to put up with anything like that. It's quite immature.
Devyn, I'd read an article on you earlier on in which you were talking about your job and the band that you were involved with while you filmed the show, and I was looking forward to seeing it on the show. But it took so long for them to show you doing your job, and the stuff with the band has only been in the dailies. And couple that with Chet talking about you being lazy and sleeping all day - the show made it look like you weren't doing anything and that you just got a job. I'm sorry you were made to look that way. What a misrepresentation. I'd be upset about it.
Trooper6 - you know what JD's purpose was on the show? He was there to be a role model (this is what he said in his AfterElton interview). He considered himself to be doing the show for "selfless" reasons, unlike others. But seriously, though, he was already a dolphin trainer, and it was his dream, I guess, so there wasn't anything for him to chase after in terms of career. He also said in the show he wanted a family, so I guess he was there for that as well.
Katelynn I have a question for you. If you were forced to say one nice thing about each roomate what would it be. (This question can be stated for all of the roomates, it will probably be difficult for JD)
Devyn have you ever thought about being a high fashion model for Janice Dickinson? I think you are beautiful and you certainly have the personality to deal with her. How are things going with your music??
Was I the only one annoyed with Ryan's diatribe about how things are in the Army (don't quit, do what your;e told, etc. etc.)?? I respect the men and women in the military but I could NOT live my life that way and it irks me when some of them expect their friends/families around them to do so.
Good episode, I haven't found one boring yet (I didn't watch Hollywood, but I think I caught the rest of the seasons).
I don't hate Chet, but his humor is lacking something, oh anything anyone would find funny. Also, I appreciate that he's trying to make his own style, but change the dang red bow tie and black shirt, I think it's been in at least the last three previous episodes. I saw he had on a different bow tie earlier in the episode and I was delighted. Buy some new bow ties, if that's the look that you are going for.
I liked Ryan's song also it reminded me of the small town I grew up in.
Like others have said it was nice to see a "calm" episode this week vs the drama of the last couple episodes.
Baya - great to see you both on the show on on the boards! I have to say that you are a breath of fresh air. You are always smiling, happy and energetic and I get the feeling those traits are infectious to other folks around you. Throughout the years of watching any reality show those most level headed, reasonable and drama free get the short end of the stick screen time wise and as much as I love seeing you on screen that is a good thing! I know Katelynn said that production would badger you in asking if you wanted to go home and I am curious to know was it in the snarky, rhetorical way that a parent would scold a chills and say "Do you want to be grounded? Do you want to go to your room?" or was it asked with sincerity, as if to ask if you weren't into the whole experience? Just curious.
As far as Chet I could psycho-analyze like some have already done but to me his teasing of Katelynn made me think that he's just one of those people who don't have an off switch and don't know when somethings not funny anymore. Its a trait of immaturity but I don't see him as a bully or doing it maliciously.
I have to agree, it was nice to see an episode without all of the arguing and the girls vs. guys thing going on. I'm guessing that was mostly because JD wasn't present during most of the episode... but, from reading the previous posts it looks like the episodes to come are not going to help me change my opinion of him. It was also very nice to finally see more than the usual 2 seconds of Baya!
Chet, Chet, Chet.. I really was beginning to like him again too. I'm sure that he thought he was just joking around, but Katelynn really seemed to get annoyed with him. On the bright side, he actually does really well in some of his interviews, that was the first time we've seen him freeze up. Honestly, if he could just keep the pranks to a minimum I'd like him so much more.
In my opinion, Chet is only hurting himself by acting this way. People who may want to give him a hosting job will see everything he has done on this show and maybe decide not to. Especially the "just the tip" foolery at the market, and the way he picks on people's personal issues.
I'm surprised that Kate didn't go off on him about her dilators, but I know she wanted to! She had that "I'm gonna cut you!" look in her eyes, again.
It's really exciting to see that Devyn got a new job that suits her very well. I hope it ended up being full time for her!
It was really fun to watch Sarah and Baya dancing and the look on Sarah's face when she couldn't keep up and decided to watch Baya instead. Baya (from what I saw) really blew everyone else out of the water! I'm glad we got to see more of her and less of the JD Monster.
The clip they showed of Scott being pissed that Kate didn't go to his birthday party was funny. I think the only reason he went to her website launch was so he could throw that in her face later!! He just stood there the whole time looking like he was in math class and couldn't wait to get out!
