Battlestar Galactica: Season 4

I'm just hoping the final episode will be decent at this point, the rest of it is a waste of my time. They seriously could have had a two hour finale that would have been more effective to concluding the story than this convoluted mess. At least the 6 was there to mess with Baltar this week...
At least the 6 was there to mess with Baltar this week...
True. Back in the first couple seasons I actually loved the Six/Baltar interactions. Although it was somewhat redeeming, the "Baltar is a Demi-God with a harem of women" part fails to keep me interested. In my book, Baltar the interesting character died the moment the Cylons landed on New Caprica.
Things are winding down. Galactica's days are numbered. Another really weird episode this week. Very artistic in nature and I'll hand out some points for the dramatic feel and musical overlays that added a different kind of energy to the interactions of the cast. It was almost operatic in nature having Starbuck wrestling with her dad (I assume) at the piano and then playing the trigger song All Along the Watchtower. The sub plot of Chief and Boomer was also compelling. Anyway, in the next three weeks I want less Kubrick and more Tony Scott. We need some action ****it and time is running out!
The writers must have all been high and the director in denial...
They're making me feel like I'm coming down, HARD. I am struggling to watch these last episodes. Glad the end is very, very near as I can not take much more of this overly sentimental, go nowhere story arc.
I am struggling to watch these last episodes. Glad the end is very, very near as I can not take much more of this overly sentimental, go nowhere story arc.
I'm not sure if this was the writers intention or not but the story arc about the Galactica dying (which has been drawn out over the last 4 episodes?) is a complete metaphore with how I feel about this show at this point. Its a good thing they are drawing this once beloved show to an end. Sometimes you just gotta shoot a dying horse- know what I mean? I am so angry they split the final season in half and made us wait for this load of crap! I will watch the final episodes but I fear at the end of the day it will all be chalked up to time I will never get back. How disappointing... BTW, do you think it might be possible to have some action? When was the last time there was an honest to goodness space battle? Part of what made the show entertaining was wondering when the Cylons would show up out of the blue, now the characters on the show don't even expect them. Why do they feel so safe? End Rant.
I fully agree with your sentiments and think that sadly art is imitating life in this circumstance. Like you I will watch, but I already know the ending is going to be a total bummer. This show was supposed to be about space battles and action mixed with personal drama. Instead, it has been fully engulfed by the latter perspective which has muted its entertainment value. Are the same writers/producers working on Caprica? If so, I might just have to take a pass...
Are the same writers/producers working on Caprica? If so, I might just have to take a pass...
Hey, the first 2 seasons might be good! Of course by then you will have been sucked in and "forced" to watch the remaining 2+ seasons divided into 5 episode blocks over the next 8 years... and they will suck. :D
I'm starting to think I just need to find a new form of entertainment. Maybe, I'll just read a book. I have a fear of starting a relationship with any new show for exactly the reason stated above; oh and the fact that shows like Heroes, Jericho, BSG, and to a certain extent 24 & Lost are just recent examples. Is this the new trend in t.v. programming? Ugh!
One more week and this show will be put out of its misery...
One more week and this show will be put out of its misery...
What was that last night, a prequel? God save us from writers who want to create art at our expense.
I'm not sure what to say about the finale. It was in some ways satisfying, while in other ways I felt let down. I loved the space battle and all the action we finally got while at the same time I was disappointed that the Kara thread was left ambiguous (How is she the harbinger of death? What was she? Where did she go?) and that a generic "God did it" answer to the entire series was the parting shot (with a touch of "technology is bad" for good measure.) I'm going to have to read a few recaps and let it absorb. On a side note, although Caprica looks to have a great cast I found the trailer uninteresting...
I'm having a similar reaction to the finale. I was extremely disappointed with the Kara thing. I don't why they spent so much time on her being already dead on earth. Does that mean she was an angel, ghost, hallucination? Knowing the truth about Kara was for me the only revelation I was looking forward to. So much for answers, huh? Also, I was a little confused and more than a little diappointed that the Old Man would leave Lee and live the rest of his days in seclusion. My husband actually thought he was going to commit suicide at one point. I think I need to read some recaps as well. I've decided that maybe I am too shallow to understand what was "really" going on in the last couple of episodes. Maybe it really was an epic finish and I just don't know it yet!
Knowing the truth about Kara was for me the only revelation I was looking forward to. So much for answers, huh?
Moore's post finale answer was quite awful. He said every idea they came up with diminished the story so they left it open...i.e. they were not good enough writers to pen themselves out of the hole they created so they decided to write nothing instead.
Also, I was a little confused and more than a little diappointed that the Old Man would leave Lee and live the rest of his days in seclusion.
I think I need to read some recaps as well. I've decided that maybe I am too shallow to understand what was "really" going on in the last couple of episodes. Answers were not forthcoming and things that we were teased with for years (such as Six telling Baltar he would save humanity or that Kara was the harbinger of death) played out to disapointing effect or no effect what so ever. I mean what was up with the opera thing? We see those dreams for years and years and they put all this weight on them. Finally we are here and the shared, all important epic dreams mean Baltar and Six should grab the girl and walk 10 feet to the right. Thanks...
The overnights from Media Life Magazine:
Sci Fi’s “Battlestar Galactica” went out with a bang on Friday. The series finale of the space drama averaged 2.4 million total viewers on Friday night, according to Nielsen overnights, making it the most-watched episode since the second-half season premiere in January 2006. The much-hyped two-hour finale also attracted 1.5 million viewers 18-49.
Wait....there's more! YouTube - New trailer for 'Battlestar Galactica The Plan'
That looks fun! Have you seen Caprica yet?
That looks fun! Have you seen Caprica yet?
No, not yet. Actually, I totally forgot about it! Just added it to my Netflix queue.
No, not yet. Actually, I totally forgot about it! Just added it to my Netflix queue.
I just watched it the other day. I'm interested in what you think of it. It's definately got a different feel than BSG.
Battlestar Galactica: The Plan is on this Sunday. I generally don't like to watch what amounts to a giant flashback, and the fact that Katee Sackhoff will be absent doesn't help... :sigh: ...but of course I'll watch. I'm committed. I've seen every episode and the made for TV movies. I can't just walk out now. I need to stay the course.... On a side note, it looks like they will be doing a BSG movie, but not based on the recent series, but rather the original.
The Plan is okay but not great. Most of it you will have seen before. The parts you have not seen mostly revolve around Brother Cavil. There is a nice bit with another version of Tricia Helfer's Six who is a prostitute so you get to see some skin there but otherwise it is passable stuff.
