Yeah... I don't know. I totally see what you're saying, but the House Manager (i always forget her name....), she's also responsible for the sobriety of all the other houseguests. Having drugs that close in the home endangers the others and some could even be triggered.
That said, maybe it's better that Amber and Nikki are afraid of the cops getting called. Maybe that'll keep them even further away from relapse?
But I guess you're right - she could've called Dr. Drew and sent Steven back to rehab.
I just caught the latest episode...
I have serious misgivings about how the situation with Steven went down. I know that if I had been there, I would have forced him into detox and avoided the legal situation he is now presented with (Yes, that might have included force on force and I understand that is not what your standard 2nd living house does.)
Maybe that arrest will be the necessary jolt to his reality to sober up, but I think the entire episode could have been handled better by more competent hands.
Valid points were made by other rehab patients in that now that we know the cops can be called, maybe this isn't the best place to be. Lets be honest, all of the cast members are 2 seconds away from committing a "crime." I think trust is gone.
Steven could have been "corralled" to rehab if the right people would have been in place and when he got stripped down, you toss the drugs into a health disposal waste basket and move on...
I was quite disappointed with the outcome. Even with a guy like Steven who doesn't care beyond his own addiction deserves an advocate - Clearly this show isn't in that business.
Here's my two cents (since I do this for a living), although I haven't watched the last episode yet. When I am working with an intoxicated person who is that paranoid and agitated, I call the police because he will be a harm to himself and others. As employees of an agency like mine, we are not allowed to physically restrain someone, so we must call the police to do it. Also, there is the ethical (and legal) obligation to get Stephen into help so that he cannot harm anyone. If he does hurt himself or another and the staff did nothing to prevent it- they would be responsible.

I'm not saying do nothing. I'm saying that if there was a competent authority figure that Steven respected in the house (such as Dr. Drew) they could have shown him the path to detox rather then jail.
Those people running the house were saying all the wrong things and making him even more out of control.
If someone would have quietly sat on the edge of the bed and said, "Steven, you have two choices as we need you to leave here. You can go to detox right now or we are going to have the police come and take you away" - it would have made the difference.

Now I completely agree with that. The House Manager is horrible and seems to make things worse. But two years soberiety is not much, she's still young in her recovery and we don't tend to let someone with that lack of experience run things.
Can anyone stay sober in this sober house? Sheeh! They need to start sending these addicts to the curb.
On a more pressing note:
I suspect that if I was given a list of 10,000 D-lebrities - Andy **** would rate 10,000 if I was asked who'd I be most interested in seeing on a reality television show. I just hate the guy.
Still, he was tolerable for one reason or another during his first foray into the show. I am sure that will change soon enough...
Next week looks, um...exciting.
STEVEN ADLER, former drummer for GUNS N' ROSES, has been ordered to check back into rehab after his recent arrest for failing to complete a court-ordered community service. The musician was detained by cops on January 26, 2009 and held for not completing the order in the time frame established by the judge. The community service was a result of his previous arrest back in July 2008 for possession of narcotics, being under the influence and for an outstanding arrest warrant. The rocker pled no contest to a charge of heroin possession at LA Superior Court to avoid a jail term for the earlier arrest, and was out on probation while ordered to complete a rehab program in Pasadena, California in December 2008. After his his latest run-in with the law, Adler appeared in court in Los Angeles this Friday (Febr 6, 2009) when the judge handling the case ordered Adler to check back into the Cri-Help Treatment Center in North Hollywood on Monday morning, February 9. Otherwise, the next stop, the big house!

Poor Amber. I'm really rooting for her. She drank, and that sucks, but at least she didn't do any drugs.
Kind of...right!? Hopefully she doesn't slide all down a slippery slope.

I just don't understand how she thought she could go into that without reprocussions...there was no doubt in my mind that she was going to relapse which is sad. She did all that because she liked this guy...but if he really liked her back, he wouldn't have tempted her like that. I bet he just wanted the cameras in his house to make him look "special" to all of his friends.

I recall Dr. Drew talking about Amber's addiction to opiates, not to alcohol, so technically I don't think it is a relapse. Obviously alcohol can lead to diminished judgment regarding opiates, but we have no evidence in the past episode that this happened.

Oh, I remember him or her saying she was an alcholic and she abused prescription drugs as a result of the alcoholism...I probably am remembering it wrong though.

It varies in different recovery communities, but in AA and NA no matter what your drug of choice is, the use of any mind-altering substance is considered a relapse.
But there are some programs that think drug addicts can still drink moderately. Most courts will consider drinking a parole violation if you go to a program and drink.

While this is the case in California, I believe it would not apply to Rodney, Amber or Nikki, and possibly Mary, since none are on parole that I'm aware of. I wouldn't want casual guest readers to form the wrong impression.

No matter what the verdict, It is obvious from the last episode that drinking for Amber is an unhealthy action. She used text book logic to drink (needs it to socialize) and had a text book reaction to the alcohol for someone with dependency issues.
For such a spectacularly beautiful woman, it is clear she has self confidence issues which push her to use a crutch (be it opiates or alcohol) to achieve comfort in social gatherings.
I'm sure Dr. Drew and Company will get her back on the sobriety horse and the road to recovery.
That being said, until she is out of the white knuckle stages, it is probably best she find herself some sober mancake. :D

Didn't she say something about not being able to be intimate with men unless she has been drinking?
Didn't she say something about not being able to be intimate with men unless she has been drinking?
I think she did say something like that...
This show just gets to me sometimes. I had a cousin die about a year ago from an overdose. It's just a sad, sad subject. Sometimes it's really depressing for me to watch. I have to be in the mood, but so far I haven't missed an episode because I'm really hoping some of them eventually find happiness in their lives.
Sometimes it's really depressing for me to watch. I have to be in the mood
Maybe this says something, but I usually watch after coming home after having a few drinks...
I think the reality, the premise is very depressing and something that is very hard to watch for breakfast. You have to be ready to ingest this show and personal demons are free to roam.
Wow! Things are off the hook at this point! Mary with an abusive ****ole. Amber blacking out. Andy opening up. Seth losing it. I thought it was a great episode.
I can't believe Seth went off the reservation like that. The previews for next week look insane!
p.s. Interestingly, I can actually stand Andy ****. I never thought I would see the day.

I missed it...gotta catcha rerun :(

I was wondering if that was going to be the case when he first joined the house.
I missed it...gotta catcha rerun
It is on today at 5PM ET. Worth the watch. I am sucked right in, which is a first for a VH1 show.
I'm glad you guys are finally watching! I like it. A lot. and next week does look craaaazy!
I like Andy, overall. Remember his reality show The Assistant? It was on MTV haha
Okay I'm officially sucked in I saw the last couple of episodes. Mary's boyfriend is Grade A ********* material, surely she should look for a new shady manager/boyfriend because he doesn't seem to have done much for her career and he's a sucky boyfriend. Honestly the only one that I think is going to make it is Rodney King.

That show was the funniest thing ever. It still cracks me when was kicking around that pot. "Were gonna start the next forest fire."

I feel the same way. The majority of them are either there for the paycheck or have an unrealistic view of what sober living should be.
Heading to the clubs or parties every night is a game of Russian Roulette.

I'm rooting for Nikki and Amber, I am. Andy too. Seems like the guy has had it with himself. Maybe he'll straighten out. Who knows.
Ok, so I'm watching today's episode (it aired at 11am), and I have to say something I've been thinking about for awhile -
Does anyone else think that Jen sliiiiiightly hams it up for the cameras? I feel like she somewhat exploits the situation everyone is in. Maybe that's a little too strong a statement - she's just sooooo dramatic all the time. I don't know..she's been rubbing me the wrong way.
Anyone hear about this?
It's sad to see a major news organization head down the tabloid road. ABC doesn't have a single fact to associate what happened at the hospital with Dr. Pinsky, and they bury in the article his statement that they were not his patients and were not part of his program. That doesn't stop the author from making an insinuation nor the headline writer from drawing in readers purely at the expense of Dr. Pinsky's reputation.
If there were anything of substance here, they would be shouting it from the rooftops.

You're totally right. I was shocked that he would even be implicated as being involved by anybody!
