Hey guys! I just want to say hello and introduce myself into the family of episode discussions! Since I lived it, I hope I have an accurate take on what happened. Episode 5 is great, but you have already seen what happened and Im sure other roomies will blog about that. I wanted to touch on some of the stuff you didn't see. Ok, by now you have probably noticed... I am BARELY on the season. My storyline seems to be that I tryout for a dance conservatory, decide not to go there, and flirt with Ryan...wow, so much depth I can hardly contain myself. This season BMP decided to do something totally different, I know you thought there were going to be 8 roommates, no no BMP cast a ½ a roommate for a total of 7 ½! I happened to be the lucky ½. So here I am sort of like a night lurker, just a little creepy crawly in the background who walks behind the camera, maybe glances into the fridge, grabs someone's butt, says a little something here and there, haha yeah that's me. So in episode 5, there is more to it that meets the eye and unfortunately it didn't make to air. First of all... the night of the fashion show... I don't know what I was drinking, but I was sshhhwasted! We went to a club where I was on the dance floor (obviously breaking it down like whoah), when I decide to go to a different dance floor on my own. So I walked up to the bar and I was about to get myself a drink when... lucky me, there is a group of these fratboy-looking ********* guys waiting for the next girl to take home. Those are always the lame-o's who love to get girls all liquored up so I take my broke *** over to them:). We start chatting, they are buying me shots and the next thing I know they realize I'm with the cameras, Ooohhh hooo! So at this point we are all 3 sheets to the wind and I tell them that if two of them kiss, I will bring the two that do back to the house with me. Hook, line and sinker -- those fools do it!!! It wasn't just a small kiss either, I had those guys going at it, mwahaha!!! Oh my hell, it was too funny and it wasn't captured!!! The only thing that was missing was someone else to share in the glory. Needless to say I ran off after that, in true night lurker form, cracking up. And of course I wouldn't have brought them home... ew. The shoe prank may be Ryan's idea of fun, but this... this is my favorite kind... dumb guys are the best to mess with!
Baya, welcome to vevmo! Yes, some of us have spent weeks wondering where MTV has been hiding you. Thanks for your behind the scenes commentary on this episode. Please don't be a stranger.
Hello Baya! Welcome! The episode is just airing for me, but I'm sure I'll have more to say or be able to apply what you said after I watch it. Thanks for stopping by.
Welcome Baya!

Welcome Baya. Can I just say that I'm glad everyone on this season is going after their goals. It is so awesome. Now if we could just get Chet and Ryan to post...

Was anyone else wondering when someone was going to tell Chet that TRL is no more?
Was anyone else wondering when someone was going to tell Chet that TRL is no more?
I'm sure the producers wanted it to play out naturally for the show. You have to remember when the cast was in the house and when the public announcement was made by MTV.

I was trying to remember when I first heard about TRL and when the show was taped... Unfortunately, I couldn't. Sorry Chet. You can do better than TRL anyway.
Welcome Baya! I think Chet can find much better opportunities than TRL.
Chet - I'm wondering how Chet got set up with the guy from Crush Management. Was it from the connection he and Ryan had in the episode in which Ryan played the tampon song for that guy (pardon me, forgot his name)? I think Chet asked some interesting questions, but I don't think everyone he interviews will be comfortable with him asking questions with a sexual nature attached to them. Hopefully he will adapt to whoever he interviews. Interesting that TRL was ending when this season was shot. Baya, I am sorry you aren't getting much screen time. The viewers have definitely noticed. Hopefully that will change soon. Almost every season it seems there is at least one "phantom" cast member. Thanks for sharing a story with us about what you were doing when you weren't getting screen time. It's nice to know what you are up to. Sounds like fun to play these people who mainly just want to get on camera. I think Sarah needs more screen time as well. Hopefully the last episode won't be the most she'll ever be focused on. So far it looks like she is getting edited as someone who just listens to others talk. I'm sure she must be a good listener and friend, and that's important to show and it makes me like her, but I think there's more to her in terms of interests and personality that's not being shown. Funny that Chet picked up on Scott's dating patterns and types it out and leaves it for him to find. However, I do think Chet seemed a little jealous of the attention he gets from women. I agree with Scott, though, that he's not being skanky because he's not sleeping with all of these girls or getting physical with all of them. As far as I know, he's also not making promises to them, either. I find it refreshing, though if he was interested in some of these girls and pursued them, that would be his business. And he's single at that point in the show. I think everyone is just surprised at Scott doing this because he hadn't been bringing girls home previously. The prank - I figured JD wasn't trying to upset Ryan even before I saw the show. Perhaps some of the pranking needs to slack down on both sides (JD's side and Ryan/Chet's side) if people are getting really upset. JD was upset about the banana-in-condom thing, which I felt was understandable. Ryan and Chet are always pranking people, and I guess he wanted to get them back since they wouldn't stop. But I also feel it's understandable that Ryan was upset about being woken up as well.
Actually, I had that thought. I was trying to remember when I first heard about TRL and when the show was taped... Unfortunately, I couldn't. Sorry Chet. If all of this episode was shot at about the same time as the anniversary of Sept 11, 2001, then Chet likely went to MTV at 1515 Broadway before the public announcment, but after MTV's own people were aware of the show's demise.

I hope it's ****** editing because it pained me to see Devyn to continue to be fixated on Scott like that. I hope she got out of that house and found other guys while exploring the city! I think Ryan's got a lot of pent-up issues than he wants to admit. I hope he gets proper counseling because bottling that all up isn't healthy. Chet was very nervous interviewing those bands. I hope with more experience he learns to loosen up more. And yes, he looked like Orville Reddenbacher---that was too funny!
For whatever reason, Ryan felt justified in being upset by the prank by JD. But I don't think that a person has a right to be that upset over a prank when the pranker becomes the prankee. How is someone supposed to be sensitive to ones fears and past experience if you take such pains to make everything seem ok. That's JMO, Ryan over reacted and to me he gave the impression that he can dish it but he can't take it. Chet is really growing on me.
Honestly-- after watching Joey last season the Ryan "flip out" seemed kind of tame to me. Seems like he enjoys being the prankster but not the prankee...and that's pretty much it. Perhaps it reminded him of Iraq, or perhaps MTV needed a storyline--I don't know. I'm of course not doubting that Iraq affected him, I'm just not convinced that his getting pissed at JD was a symptom of that. Anyway...good episode, once again. Devyn was totally jealous. I couldn't help but agree with Scott when he said "Devyn likes to put me in my place". It kind of got annoying a little bit. :boredom::hypocrite: I was happy for Chet though. He's definitely my favorite cast member this season. I was very happy for him, and loved seeing how happy he was.
And since we got to see more than two seconds of Scott, I finally heard that accent. He's from New Hampshire, right? I could've sworn it was a faint Boston accent I heard. (I just don't have a grasp on what a New Hampshire accent sounds like to compare it to something.)

And yes, he looked like Orville Reddenbacher---that was too funny!
RW, I'm just using your words as a jumping off point for some thoughts. Nothing that follows is about what you wrote. It's not a matter of Ryan bottling anything inside. It is really about a bond with those with similar experiences and a natural aversion to people with a movie mentality toward war. I can't begin to tell you how reluctant I am to comment on this, because for me, as for Ryan, this is a deeply personal thing. Nonetheless, I think I get him completely. We live a culture in which the media has popularized battlefield emotional trauma. Having had somewhat similar experiences to Ryan's at roughly his age but decades earlier, I'm convinced that he is not only healthy, I think he is coping with his experience in a fully appropriate way. Many people who have been in combat do not seek to share their experience with others who do not have similar stories because our experience changes who we are at our core, and often in a very good way; and, the transformative process on the battlefield destroys the veneer which we surround ourselves as we become adults. Once what you have been trough strips you to your core and you rebuild yourself, you are dearth to share what you have been through with anyone who didn't go through the same thing. I applaud Ryan going to the September 11th memorial with a combat buddy. I'm sure they reminisced about events in Iraq, both good an bad, remembered friends who were injured or didn't return home alive, and shared a far deeper connection than we can possibly know. As Ryan said, not a day goes by that he doesn't remember. I know that feeling from more than one experience over three decades. Ryan is certainly capable of understanding his own reaction to the things he has seen and done, and quite likely equally capable to knowing when he needs to process those experiences either through fellow veterans or very experienced professionals who aren't just book-trained but have also touched the blood of the guy who shared your foxhole for months. I also applaud Ryan for being himself. He knows he's a little flawed. That, for me, makes him very likeable indeed.

You cannot get mad at someone for retaliating a prank you started in the first place. Devyn was jealous and she should've been for the most part. Nikia, the first girl wasnt so hot. Now the second girl Scot brought home is really good looking and is much cuter than Devyn is IMO. This season is cool because theyre all pursuing goals and Chet was the perfect example of that tnight.
Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!
Welcome, Baya! Like V1 said, don't be a stranger - we'd love to hear any side-stories or commentary you have to offer. Episode was OK for me...showed lots of depth on Ryan, which was good. IDK, I'm still not diggin' Scott so much. He's the only one of the 8 that I'm 'meh' about. Previews for next week look REALLY good. Was it Scott that calls Kate out? Yikes! Should be a good ep though.
I liked this episode, I liked seeing a different side of Ryan this week. From an objective stand point he totally overreacted about JD's prank. JD's definitely had some douchy moments but this for sure wasn't one of them especially given the fact that Ryan's been pranking them since they got there. I'm not sure whether it was tied to his experiences of being in Iraq but my brother was in Desert Storm and you can NOT just wake him up out of his sleep. One time right after he came home I tried and he literally woke up swinging, I was thisclose to getting my jaw knocked off. He was never like that before and though we joke a little about it I know there are things that he saw and lived through that I'm never going to understand and he's never going to open up about. I don't necessarily think Ryan needs to talk about everything that happened at least not to MTV and the world. The Baya vent was funny. I'm sorry you're getting the editing shaft Baya but hopefully we'll get to see more about you in the upcoming episodes. Then again maybe you don't want to- I'm not so sure whether Devyn's too thrilled about her "front burner" storyline hahaha. I hope this isn't one of the main themes this season: Devyn coming off being obsessive like about Scott and Scott pushing her away and hooking up with everyone but her. There were some cringe worthy Scevyn moments going on in tonights show. Though to be fair it seemed like everyone was slagging Scott off and Devyn was getting the brunt of his wrath (she wasn't even the one that came up with the dating rules thing). It is kind of funny he's showing all the girls his modeling portfolio though. Chet, I liked the Orville look and that he's rocking his own style. But I think what makes me like him more and more is seeing how focused and motivated he is. You can see that he has this very specific goal in mind and he's very serious about going after it and making it happen and I really admire that.
Previews for next week look REALLY good. Was it Scott that calls Kate out? Yikes! Should be a good ep though.
That was Ryan.
Devyn, green is not a good color on you. Trust. Hopefully you will get a better edit next week. Those models were so cute!
First of all, thanks Baya for stopping by. I actually read your post before watching the episode and it provided many laughs as you seemed to move about in the background of all the main scenes with an occasional word or two and a little OTF narration here and there. Once "Brooklyn" comes into the picture you might just disapear! Hopefully there is an episode in the pipe that is Baya centric... On the subject of Scott's dating habits, I think it is fine what he is doing. As a gentleman myself, I see nothing wrong with his behaviour as long as he is not: a.) Sleeping with them all. b.) Leading them on to think it is an exclusive thing. Sure, there might be more to it, but in simplistic terms - it is ok to play the field as long as you are upfront, honest and ethical. Scott seems like all of those things from what I have seen thus far. Concerning the prank gone wrong, obviously Ryan overreacted. I feel for him and his hard fought defense of this country, but at the same time if you are throwing rocks you might expect an occasional rock to be thrown back and better not be living in a glass house. I don't blame JD for wanting to strike back, but I personally would have been a bit more creative with my revenge... Chet does look like Orville Redenbacher! Maybe there is a career in ad spots in his near future? (i.e. The Young Orville Redenbacher series of commericals? Hahaha!)
Was anyone else wondering when someone was going to tell Chet that TRL is no more?
But the guy did tell him that TRL was cancelled. I thought he did good at the Crush interview. You could tell he was a little nervous but he had a great rapport with the band. Hope he can continue with this.

I'll admit I was wondering when he was going to find out too and was surprised to find out he finally did. If he wants to get into a certain venue, he's gotta do his research. Heck, I almost submitted a piece to a publication that was no longer in print---at least I didn't learn that on national TV!
It seems like every episode they target one main roomie. This week's was obviously Ryan, next week seems like it will be Katelynn, which i cant wait! Hopefully week after that they will do Baya. And welcome Baya!
