Survivor 18: Tocantins - Brazil
Jeff Probst announced at the end of the Survivor Reunion Show that the next season of Survivor will take place in Tocantins, Brazil
Tocantins (pronounced [tokɐ̃ˈtĩs]) is one of the states of Brazil. The state was formed in 1988 out of the northern part of Goiás, and construction began on the capital, Palmas, in 1989, in contrast to most of the other cities in the state which date back to Portuguese colonial period. It is the newest Brazilian State and, because it is still very young, it is developing slowly, building on its most important resources: the rivers Araguaia and Tocantins, the largest hydro basin entirely inside Brazilian territory. Because it is in the central zone of the country, it has characteristics of the Amazon, but also has open pastures. The Ilha do Bananal, in the southwest of the State, is the largest fluvial isle in the world. There is the National Park of Araguaia, and the Carajás Indian reservations. Another highlight is the Jalapão, about 250 kilometers from the capital, Palmas. There, the rivers create true oases in the dry landscape, attracting many eco-tourists to the region.
So what do you guys think???
Thanks Bacchus! We won't have to wait too long for this season. It premieres on February 12th 2009 :)
yesssssss another season
That's pretty quick for another Survivor season. I'm excited for it.
Here is the Preview! :D YouTube - Survivor: Tocantins - Preview Is it bad that I am already getting excited?? ;)
Apparently there was a crew member who talked too much. Survivorucks.com and some spoiler info. I'm not going to post a link since that would require me to look read something at "sucks" and I avoid that place like the plague.
Survivor has really, for the first time, put out 3 seasons in a row that were highly regarded by the fans. Hopefully Brazil can go 4 for 4. Jeff Probst remarked in his blog (Jeff Probst blog) that this season is played much different than Gabon and a lot of likable people.

Gabon ended with a positive note and so I do have hope this upcoming season will be a pick up from this past season. The rough conditions there should add an interesting factor into the game apart from just game play.

I believe Jeff Probst said that most of the Characters would be likable... If I find the artical I will post it on here.

For a while after All Stars, it was really hit or miss, but since China it's been consistently good. By the way, I posted the link to the article in post 9 of this thread where Probst says the cast is likeable. He has, however, always had a strong bias towards alpha-males, so his definition of a likeable cast might be different from someone else's.

I must have over looked it. :o
cant wait!

And I think you can get into more if there are more likable cast members but we need a few good villains thrown in too.
I know they look the same, but they are different. ;) YouTube - Survivor Tocantins Pre-Season Promo: First Impressions - 20 seconds YouTube - Survivor Tocantins Pre-Season Promo: First Impressions
Do you think they are really going to get rid of two people in the first five minutes? I think there is a trick afoot, err....or maybe not. Remember on the Bachelor a few weeks ago when the host said, "Everyone will vote and someone will be leaving." ...and then it was later added, "With a rose" after they voted for the most annoying people. That is what it reminds me of being you would not think that CBS would risk letting the cast get rid of the most disagreeable elements on the first day. I guess we will see.
They will probably be sent to Exile Island for a while and then either switch tribes or come back with some sort of immunity. I can see them getting rid of 2 people if the cast was 18 or 20, but 16 is too small of a cast to do that.

Some sort of bait and switch where the people they vote for are given power in the competition. Which of course, "Will change the game for the next 39 days."
I agree with you guys. I think the two people that are voted out will be given individual immunity.
I agree too...if the cast were larger, it would definitely be a possibility, but 16 is too small. It would be interesting, however, if they were to stay at Exile Island UNTIL someone in their tribe was voted off, therefore giving them immunity...especially if one tribe is more dominant. Or maybe it'll be like the Pearl Islands season where they'll come back as Outcasts? Has CBS given any reason for having a smaller group than the last few seasons?
Has CBS given any reason for having a smaller group than the last few seasons?
The # of cast members has always varied since All Stars, they've done 16 a few times since then. Most likely once they figure out what direction they want the season to go in, they decide how many cast members they want. I think smaller is better unless its some sort of all star season. It seemed like they got lazy during Cook Islands and Fiji, threw 16 or 17 good looking models without much substance and maybe 2 or 3 good characters and those seasons were pretty bad, especially Fiji. Now I think they put a better effort into putting together a quality cast, even if its smaller.
That makes sense. Not to say there's anything wrong with 16 people, but it did seem like the larger casts had a bit more twists (double vote offs, surprises at tribal council, etc) that kept it interesting.
I was never a double tribal council fan, two TC's took up the entire latter half of the episode and didn't allow much time for backstory.
You think so? I thought it was an interesting twist, although I see what you're saying in terms of backstory. It's much more interesting than just having people go crazy and quit (cough Micronesia)! I also liked when Pearl Islands did the final 4 vs the Jury for immunity. That was a good idea I think they should do more often.
A bigger surprise awaits the Survivors: (Preview) YouTube - Survivor: Tocantins - The Brazilian Highlands Promo (5) A Bigger Surprize Awaits Them
They're hyping the first 15 minutes or so up sooo much...I hope they live up to it!
Brazil is so awesome! Not because My family is from there but just because it is haha, Great idea to have a survivor there.
Here is info that was given during the TV Guide special, hosted by Sugar, that aired tonight and will have a few subsequent re-airings: -The person "voted out" of each tribe in the first 15 minutes will arrive at camp 4 hours in advance and can either start building shelter to make an impression, or they can look for the immunity idol -Each week the reward challenge winners choose 1 person from the losing tribe to go to Exile Island. That person chooses 1 challenge winner to come with them. Then, when their time at Exile is done, they decide whether they would like to switch tribes or not (I feel like this would have worked better in combination with China's kidnapping twist so they could know/evaluate what they are getting themselves into, but nonetheless, a very cool idea)
