The email thing was a bit of a cop out imo but maybe that's the best way he knows to communicate his feelings (through writing).
I appreciated the pan, wide shot of him sitting over in the other room, guitar in hand with that guarded, vulnerable look (which seems to define him.)
The lead up was a classic male/female encounter. Oh why does it have to be so complicated?
He was casually flirting with Baya who ended up flirting back with him. Over time it mutually amplified which led to playful touching. This caused him to think she was crossing a line, which caused him to "lash out" at her. This in effect made her scurry away, causing him to believe that she was more into him then she really was - which caused him to rethink his position. That lead to the email which unfortunately was based on a misinterpretation a few steps back. (i.e. she was mad he thought that, not that she was being rejected.)
In retrospect, he probably should have continued to smartly play his chips rather than going all in on a hunch. However, in the game of life you don't get to see all the cards before you place your bet.
I hope Katelynn's boyfriend has some sort of explanation for just dropping off the planet like that, that's not such a good look.
I am going to take Mike's side for just a moment. I know that if my significant other took off for The Real World, I'd probably be a bit discouraged (to say the least.) I would understand that it was a once in a lifetime opportunity, but at the same time I would feel a bit betrayed because it is four months and a world away on a seemingly different life course (not to mention we all know the lifetime faithfulness statistics from the show.)
As for their current relationship status:
All signs point to them still being together. Yes, Kate - I am talking about you like you are not here, lol.

I was slightly annoyed though that when I watched the dailies it seemed like a much more mutual attraction than the way they presented it on the show. If I had just watched the show I would've thought she looked almost delusional but when I saw the dailies I could completely see where she was coming from and I wish they would've shown that more on the show.
It did seem like Devyn was drawing more from the relationship than was there, from watching the episode. I agree that the presented edit was a bit misleading and that there was a mutual attraction/friendship established in the cutting room floor footage. They could have been a bit more honest with the segment.

BMP/MTV actually doing some honest editing...muhahahahaha I laugh at the thought, LOL.
Thanks for the spoiler Bacchus.
That was the sense that I got too, that he had a lot of feelings going on related to her being gone, which is why I wanted to see his explanation before putting him on the toolmobile.
LMAO about your description of the "vulnerable look" with guitar in hand. Was the music swelling too? I can't remember.
Oh, I forgot the "She's a model and I'm Chet" line. A random thing that cracked me up.
Oh, I know...I was rolling when he said that...my husband was like..."did he really just say that?" it was classic.
Oh, I forgot the "She's a model and I'm Chet" line. A random thing that cracked me up.
The funny thing is that he was serious when he said it. Lol.

This is exactly why Chet is the man. LOL
I'm glad you noticed alot of the things that were missing from Episode 3 (primarily with regards to my friendship with Scott). We watched it together last night and kind of laughed at the whole thing... because what they failed to show was how close we had become as friends by that point. Even though it was only the first 2-3 weeks we had become closer than most people in the house at that time. Scott even pointed out that the night I did a confessional saying "Any girl could fall head over heels for Scott" was the same night that I was denied access into a club because I did not have proper id (stop laughing) and Scott hung outside of the club with me the entire night! Early on he did a lot of things for me that were selfless. In my confessional I was just acknowledging how great of a person he is. I did not find out about the girlfriend from Sarah (and his friend Alex did not know about her either) I found out from Scott (but it was not on film). Either way I'm glad that story line is over! Whew! Ha ha now we can look forward to the good (funny, suspensful, aggitating, humiliating) stuff! Thanks for watching guys!! Oh and look forward to the launch of my website www.DevynSimone.com this coming Wednesday (and yes we are doing an aftershow) ;-)
I am glad to know that he was the one who was upfront and honest with you Devyn...even if it was a little late, LOL.
I look forward to checking out your website! :)

Yes he was a little late... ha ha but its ok.. none of it was as serious as the editing made it seem (which I have a feeling you will understand more around ep 7)
And my website will have updated videos (both from rw dailies and videos from my life after the show) it will have a calendar of events... explanations of what went on behind the scenes .. some of my songs... writings and poetry (some of my older stuff you can see right now on my myspace and my facebook) there will also be a link to contact me for projects and all sorts of stuff... it def takes quite a bit to build a site but it will be launched next week and when its all said and done it should be pretty fun!
For some of my older writings check out www.myspace.com/DevynSimone or check out my fbook.
There was a lot of meat in this episode and I agree with earlier comments about the seemingly choppy editing and somewhat incomplete/inaccurate presentation. It must be tough for some at BMP to get their arms around this much substance after years of editing other RW seasons, the challenges, The Bad Girls Club, Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Living Lohan and other equally compelling shows.
Some random thoughts:
- Ryan, sometimes its better as a guy to simply go through the flirtation process, following whatever path is presented, and then when you come out the other side, go for the simple "WTF was that?" We guys always get in trouble when we attempt to be complicated personalities. 99% of women, in my experience, aren't looking for that. Also, just because you are a talented writer does not mean you should write anything to another women that will become a legacy (and on national TV)... Totally bad juju there..
-Katelynn and Mike... Just because Katelynn joined this season of the RW, doesn't mean that Mike wanted to be an exploited participant, too. His one word responses may have been given in hope that production would find nothing in them worthy of inclusion in any episode. I'm cutting the dude some slack because I wouldn't want to expose my relationship with someone to public scrutiny.
-Baya: adorably cute. I don't agree with an earlier comment here that she has suddenly changed her goals from dance to DJing. This is one of those times when editors would love to have two minutes and just the right video to create the transition for us and to show us the actually context or even a backstory of her interest... She has a passion for dance and a desire to DJ... Not only are the two are not mutually exclusive, they are very closely related!
-Scott: Girlfriend, no girlfriend? I'm confused and I don't know if Scott or the editors are responsible for my condition... I'd like to hear Scott's view.
-Chet: Narcissist alert! That is what I think he is, and that's OK. He makes me laugh and I don't feel the need to take him seriously. He brings some levity to the hour.
-Devyn: I really disliked her edit in this episode. BMP made it look like she is someone who has a considered opinion on all things, but especially regarding relationships. In her first lengthy exposure to the audience, I would have preferred to see more variety and depth in her role. I took me 30 seconds to decide that she is serious, smart and beautiful. After that I wanted more depth and the editors gave us the same again and again. I guess what I really want is to see her act. [In fairness, my reaction may be too harsh because on Dec 5 in NY I walked away from meeting Devyn with the distinct impression that she is the one person from recent TRW seasons who, like Jacinda Barrett, we will say years from now that we remember from "Brooklyn."
-Sarah: BMP could simply show her looking at a sunset and I'd watch... She is wonderfully expressive
-JD: Hey, you needed a week to recover from the bashing you took last episode. Be grateful. ;)

I have the sneaking suspicion that we will hear his thoughts, soon. :wink2:
However, for clarity in the mean time - lets follow the no girlfriend route and take on faith that there is a complex story to be told that could not conveniently fit into the short time period allotted to the subject in this week's episode.
BTW: That was quite devious of MTV to show Scott talking to Sarah about his female friend and then all of a sudden do a dubious fast forward sequence to Sarah talking to the girls about just that subject ("right after" stating she would keep quiet on the matter.) Luckily we have first hand accounts to clarify and dispense with their editorial tactics.
If you thought Chet was funny from the small amount they showed him last night, you will find the confessional he did on RW Dailies about Alex hilarious. I couldn't stop cracking up at it: Real World Dailies - Real World Dailies | ContentDetail
They put up new dailies today dealing with them as well.
I feel the dailies for this show enhance it more than it did for the other shows. I didn't watch as many dailies for the other shows as this one, so that could be part of the reason I feel that way, but I really do feel the dailies this time explain things better or show the interactions and vibes between the cast better. If anyone is afraid about ruining the TV airing of the show, I recommend watching the dailies after each episode airs.
I also agree there was a mutual friendship/flirtation between Devyn and Scott. I was waiting to watch the show to see what Scott might say about it in his interviews and confessionals, though, because I thought even the dailies showed it a little more on the side of Devyn than Scott (i.e. her talking to JD and Sarah about if Scott liked her). But clearly they both were very close to each other and liked being around each other, no doubt. Even though Scott has a girlfriend and it looks like a hookup isn't going to happen (I agree with Devyn that he is off limits now, so good for her), I look forward to watching their friendship, which I think is cool.
I can't wait to see more of what Devyn will be doing with her dream. It sounds pretty cool from what I've read. I forgot about Ryan wanting to publish a book. That is a dream, but I don't think he would be looking into being a full time author. If he could break into the music business, even on a small level, it could possibly be a longer lasting dream. Maybe he could even become a songwriter for other artists.

I agree. I thought about that while watching the show. I could see how he would be hesitant to talk much because of his calls being recorded. I would have thought him asking about her roommates and how she was doing would be innocent enough, though. Especially since she was in a new place, and with her being more recently post-op as well. It usually feels good to hear a little bit from someone familiar to you when you are away from home. I hope Katelynn and Mike did eventually find a way to communicate with each other.

I will give him that, boy does have style...he should be a stylist to the stars or something...
Greetings Everyone, I decided to finally come on here to clear a couple things up on behalf of myself and Devyn.
To begin with, I want to thank Devyn for saying such nice things about me. RW didn't show the club scene at Mansion when she couldn't come in and I waited outside with her all night and it was very nice of you for mentioning that. However, I wish they did because there was a homeless man outside dancing in the street stopping traffic who was absolutely hilarious. He loved the camera and thought I was Ryan Seacrest. haha good times.
As far as me having a girlfriend. I indeed had no girlfriend "Title" attached to me when I arrived on the show. The girls ASSUMED girlfriend because it was a girl I cared about and I wasn't making the moves on Devyn. I didn't make the moves on Devyn because I saw her nothing more than a great friend. The words never came out of my mouth. To be honest it was refreshing to have that kind of bond with a girl. Devyn is very smart and is great at giving advice. Marissa is a girl who has been in my life for some time and her and I got together the day before I came out here and we had decided to finally start something and take it extremely slow. In addition, my "flirting" with the girls on the show was harmless. I am friendly with everyone. However being a straight man I am going to treat my friends that are girls differently than my friends that are guys and even Devyn can attest; it was always with respect and consideration of her personal space.
Lastly, you may have noticed that the picture of Marissa was blurred out. Episode 4 should clear that up. I felt I needed to clear this up because it wasn't fair to Devyn. Did she like me a bit in the begining, yes she did, we all saw it. Was it as blown up as they made it seem. No.

Thanks for taking the time to stop by and share you thoughts about the episode. Generally we as a group are schooled enough in the ways of reality television that it only takes a clear path for us to see beyond the editing. Your explanation sets the record straight.
Looking forward to episode 4 to see where this all leads (and of course those beyond.)
Thank you Scott for taking the time to stop by and clear the mess called "real world editing". I love the fact that castmembers are setting the record straight.
