Real World Brooklyn: Ratings
The early ratings for Real World: Brooklyn and the Aftershow are in: RW pulled a 6.6 rating and the Aftershow pulled a 6.2. Episode one is one of the highest rated series shows ever on the network. Congratulations to the cast, Jim Johnson and his BPM production crew, Jackie French and her small team of visionaries at MTV, to Mark Long and to Jonathan Murray (mark this day on your calendar), Mr. BMP, for charting the return to RW's roots, for the complete production package from casting and set design, to post-production and everything in between and for a significant investment in advertising and PR. Congrats, too, to vevmo for championing the show and its cast.
Great job guys.

Yea cast!!! You brought it back. Thank you. Thank you. I'd also like to say that the premier exceeded ALL my expectations.
Good! I did not know this program had already started! But if it seems they went back to RW roots, probably it will be worth watching! I'll check out the reruns!

The Brooklyn-based debut (2.3 million viewers, 1.3) also beat ABC and CBS in the 10 p.m. hour among adults 18-34.
It looks like the heavy promotion paid off.

Nice! I'm happy for the ratings! The show was great and glad it had great ratings!
Wait i don't know much about ratings, but whats the highest?
Wait i don't know much about ratings, but whats the highest?
I was kind of thinking the same thing, because I don't know much either. But by V1's post it seems like they were very good!
Wait i don't know much about ratings, but whats the highest?
Umm, M*A*S*H? 105.9 Million viewers/77 share? :wink2:
Were Brooklyn's ratings higher than the Hills?
Were Brooklyn's ratings higher than the Hills?
Yes, The Hills has fallen, pulling in 1.6 million viewers on its initial airing on 12/29 (MTV likes to dump all the airings together and give a big number, but that is not how it works...) Last season it averaged 2.6 Million per original episode.
That is really awesome about the ratings, hopefully they continue to stay up.
Awesome! How many viewers watched the premiere of Brooklyn?
2.3 million viewers
That's amazing! Hopefully it continues like this!
That's amazing! Hopefully it continues like this!
I think it will. It has very good potential
2.3 million viewers
This is totally in the weeds, but it's my thing... They did report 2.3M in the 18 - 34 demographic . However, if you look at the broader 6.6 rating, (all demographics) that number is far greater. Ratings are tough to understand -- I once participated in a seminar on ratings at a NATPE convention, and learned to do a little of the math that gets you in the ball park. Here is the process.. Look at the cable ratings ending Jan 4 (the week before) and select the #1 show. 1 COLL FTBALL-BOWL GAME L(OKLAHOMA ST/OREGON) ESPN 3.9 6220 1 COLL FTBALL-BOWL GAME L (MISSOURI/NORTHWESTERN) ESPN 3.9 6076 3 ICARLY NICK 3.6 5943 4 COLL FTBALL-BOWL GAME L(LSU/GEORGIA TECH) ESPN 3.4 5635 5 WWE ENTERTAINMENT (WWE RAW) USA 3.1 5675 Note the OK ST/OR game was a 3.9 rating with 6,220,000 viewers. (1594.88 viewers per .1 rating point) Then look at the bottom of the top 10 broadcast shows for the same period and select the last one. 7 COLD CASE CBS 7.9 12673 8 ALLSTATE SUGAR BOWL(S) FOX 7.8 13369 9 CSI: MIAMI CBS 7.3 11357 10 TWO AND A HALF MEN CBS 7.2 11867 Note Two and One Half Men was a 7.2 rating with 11,867,000 viewers. (1648.19 viewers per .1 rating point) (The different nights/times of airing account for the difference in viewers per .1 rating point.) Then compute the average the two numbers -- 1648 and 1595, then multiply that result by 6.6 (the RW rating) and you get @ 10,701,900 total viewers for Episode 1.
Where are you seeing a 6.6 rating? I am reading it as a 1.3 rating for total viewers, with a win in the 18-34 demo. 10 Million viewers would be practically impossible (for a cable series.) You have to figure the highest rated show last week on cable ( OKLAHOMA ST/OREGON) only did 6.2 million total viewers. My guess is that would have to be an MTV number with multiple viewings combined. It looks like "Meet the Browns" won the 10 PM hour in total viewers for Wednesday.
Moving on, TNT's "Meet the Browns" premiere featured back-to-back episodes (averaging 3.9 million viewers, 1.8), topping basic cable in the 10 p.m. hour and improving slightly on December's "House of Payne" premiere in the slot.
In conclusion: I think I'll wait until we get the hard numbers on Monday before commenting further. ;) p.s. Here is an example of MTV's rating methodology. p.s.s I wanted to add that ratings are up significantly - no matter the final number. I am just always suspicious of internal MTV numbers as they have a tendency to spin.
That's looking great for RW. It should definitely be able to crack the top 10 for this week. Is there any chance it might be number 1 this week?
So how many viewers are needed to make this the highest rated season in the history of the show?
Well I am very happy and excited to hear of the great ratings. I hope this leads to more success in the Real World and Challenges.
So how many viewers are needed to make this the highest rated season in the history of the show?
Highest rated season:
Variety reports that the Tuesday night finale of MTV's 11th season of " Real World " was the most-watched episode in the series' history, drawing 5.5 million viewers.
That is for 1 single episode! I think I read that right.
This doesn't surprise me. They kept it current but went back to what made the first couple of seasons so great. People have been saying for years if the show wasn't just about getting drunk and hooking up more people would watch it.......the premiere of Brooklyn is proof.
Highest rated season:
Variety reports that the Tuesday night finale of MTV's 11th season of " Real World " was the most-watched episode in the series' history, drawing 5.5 million viewers. For some additional perspective, here is an extract from the NY Daily News, Mar 28, 2008:
The Season 3 premiere of MTV's night-time reality soap, which is built around Lauren Conrad and her friends and enemies - or at least publicity-created enemies - averaged more than 4.7 million viewers, a record for the show. Nielsen Media Research ratings for Tuesday night indicate the episode was the most-watched show that night by viewers ages 12 to 34 - an audience MTV craves
Hopefully the season rating of RW: Brooklyn can be as high as the Hills or even top it. What were the first episode and season ratings for RW: Hollywood?
This, too, was my first impression after watching the first episode earlier today. Wow, what a refreshing cast - who knew that America had to endure 8 years of Bush suffrage and an Obama victory for the RW producers to see the light that there is money and ratings in positive people with no drama, no booze, and a group of outcasts! LOL. Kudos P.S. Can I just say that Scott is so grounded, a great model and inspiration for people who want to get healthy and have such body like his lol. Can't believe he doesn't drink or smoke
I don't have any new or specific numbers, but it is clear that Real World Brooklyn did not make the top 20 cable shows of the week.
